@ petehog, thanks for the tip dude! I will mess around with the design a bit more and see if I can sort those eyebrows out!

@ everyone, thanks for the appreciation of my Derrick. I've had some time on my hands recently so I had a go at another new morph.

After following mochen's helpful advice she posted a while ago for making cute elves, this is Kizzy:

WolfheartHU: Xion was one of my Standalone CC Creations. Again, may he rest in peace. He fell in a tragic File Deletion Accident about a week ago. He was a Human Mage, Sten's Hair, 'Evil Santa' Beard, (What it looked like to me, & that's exactly why I chose it.) ugly, yet not extreme Nose, the default grayish Hair Color, & a face that would suggest that he was semi-old, & possibly tampering with Entropy Magic a tad too much. He was my 'Evil power-hungry madman' Mage. Lastly, I didn't know Xion wasn't a new name till after I built him. I sometime ago found out there's a Xion in one of the Kingdom Hearts Games. So much for being original.

adneate: Ama's adorable! She's perfect as is! She can heal me anytime!

mochen: Reinhold feels kinda like an Orlesian Loghain. He has a similar air of intellect, cunning, & sternness.

PoisonTheCity: She looks like she has the potential to master Coercion with the need for Skill Points!

Thereon would be able to do a VERY good job of looking scary to intruders of the Korcari Wilds!

Wyldsong: If i'm correct in assuming you refer to the one Tayo uses, then it's one of the default Female Elf Mage Tattoos. I don't remember if Female Human Mages have access to it too or not.

Caladhiel: Yes, i'm a sucker for red-headedness. I was born a red-head & for some wierd reason, my head lost it's red & turned some wierd strawberry-blondish. I'm also a sucker for red-head gals.

Even in the Hair Mod, there wasn't as much Tomboy Hair as I woulda liked. Much of it is clipping the Ears, I dislike Hair that obscures the Eyes too much, because I don't understand why anyone would set their own Hair up to interfere & irritate their own vision, & i'm not big on Pigtails, Ponytails that look too 'Pippi Longstockingish', or Buns. I think even Princess Leia herself is better off with a non-Bun style. Ponytails that don't act 'Pippi Longstockingish' are ok, like the 'Samurai Ponytail'. I made do with what I had available.

My idea of judging criteria is 'either it looks good, or it doesn't'. If it doesn't, then I try to ascertain why so I can turn that info into Feedback. I won't lie to ya, i'm no Simon Cowell.

@ VirusCat, also should mention that I know we have had a few differences of opinion, but it's great to see you back. I have said it before, but your work is high quality stuff. The latest design is no exception.

Thanks to everyone who complimented Ama, it's very much appreciated

@AvatarHunter: You know what's funny everyone seems to love my elf designs but I always prefer my Human Mage designs myself. Anyway now that the forum has steered in the direction of the Elf females I'll show off one of my new characters, it's a design based largely on another I've done changed slightly to fit an Orlesian Templar Tank build for Awakening with the Female Elf proportions project they look super cute in Templar Armor and I've never done a blonde character before.

Now for my advice for meathook, and this is just the way I prefer to do Elves but prehaps I can offer some additional advice and points to help you along. I tend to draw the mouth, teeth and chin upwards and then narrow the jaw slider but I use the jaw square shape to compensate the result I've found is a slightly cleaner more uniform jaw structure in general. I always put the cheekbones up just before they start changing the eye shape but draw the bones in till they match with my jawline.

Well now just when I thought dwarves were going to get a bit of exposure in comes a trio of elven women hogging all the spotlight with their pointy ears and delicate features lol. At the expense of sounding like a broken record on the whole I find all three stunning with their individual merits that set them apart from one another, very much impressed.

@Adneate I agree that your human mage designs are nice indeed though there is just something that draws me to your elves, can't pinpoint it but I like it

adneate: She looks incredible! Is she Character Creator, or Toolset?

neppakyo: She looks incredible too, but in a different way! How are ya liking the behavior of the Long Hair? Long Hair isn't in my design plans for any of my normal characters, but if I ever figure out the Toolset, I wanna have fun making Characters in it, even if they aren't for playing. I might try out get-up building as well, & if I turn out to not suck at Toolsetting, I wonder if I could build mini-quests? *pretends to kiss his Computer* :P My created Characters could get starring roles as NPCs & maybe Bosses & such. (I miss Chase. I bet he coulda been a cool temporary companion. I wonder if I could stand any chance of manually recreating him with just the aid of my Web Album Pics? He was special.)

Salona Amell has triumphed over her Origin Story! Attempted to take some awesome Salona Pics, & most of them failed. My Keyboard is old & experiencing Keyboard Deathbed Syndrome, & a replacement is on my to-do list. I've also heard of Print Screen Bugs, but i've forgotten most of what I read about it long go, so a fat lotta good it did me to read it.

The Giant Spider's Overwhelm attack looks uber wicked to behold! I tried to Screenshot Series of a Giant Spider Overwhelm Attack on Salona, but somehow, they failed. :(

@Tyrax Lightning All my characters are made in the toolset, it's really the best way to go and for that particular Elf I had to use the toolset to edit the savegame file in order to make it use a .mor I made since the character creator can't understand the eye shape sliders in the toolset very well. In the toolset they are sliders that change gradually in the character creator they are more like switches either it's that shape or not. Also I had screenshot problems with Windows 7 the solution is just to remap the key to F12, if you haven't done that give it a whirl and if all else fails get Fraps.

I like the long hair hehe, I prefer it on elves. Keiko was done within the character gen screen, with multiple face/hair/eye mods installed pineapple is one of em all available on dragonagenexus.com

Here's an attempt at a wild looking human female, kinda yellow lion eyes, unruly short hair.

Astyth the Grey

Your paragon Aeducan is excellent, but I really like Astyth. I've played around with Morrigan's eye make-up "tattoo" before, but never really managed to make it work in any designs, so I really like how you've incorporated it in this one.

Just a random human male. I was going for a serious - almost severe - look.

adneate: It really is ridiculous how hard it is to play games with Toolset Characters, when that's one of the purposes of the Toolset, making Characters spiffier than the Character Creator can manage. Then again, it still sounds fun!

Many thanks for the Screenshot Tip! I'm gonna give it a try!

neppakyo: She's extraordinary! That's gotta be one of the most unique designs yet!

I've recently started using Pineappletree's Vibrant Colors, & More Hairstyles. I don't understand why so many of the Mod Hair sticks so much Hair in front of the Eyes, & there's some Ear Clipping here & there, but otherwise, they rock! Pineappletree's work is godly! Oh, that reminds me, i've been meaning to leave his Mod a comment to suggest the addition of a Glowing Fiery Red Eye Color.

Schratty: He looks like he could be a Warden Commander of a Ferelden branch of the Grey Wardens! Another one that's got 'Don't cross me!' written all over him!

@Schratty Thanks, glad you like it. I've been playing around with face tats and makeup mods lately and I'm liking the results. I was also looking to post just a couple pics of Astyth as well now that you mention her.  As for your random noble there I will say he looks very regal and royal like he could possibly be a relative of Cailan.

AvatarHunter: Interesting character! I think she's looking better in armor than in clothes.

@Tyrax Lightning It's not really that bad, my Orlesian Elf is the only one I had to do that with Ama shows up the character creator just fine, she looks exactly the same in game as in the toolset. The only things that produce major problems are the eye and nose shape sliders since they are set at 50% by the character creator and if your .mop has them at 30% it will force them to be 50% since it doesn't understand. Although forget putting a custom tattoo on a Dalish Elf and expecting them to survive the character creator, it automatically forces tattoos which just makes a mess of their face.

adneate: That doesn't sound too bad. It still seems odd that the Toolset didn't come with an easy effective way to convert Character Files from the CC File Type to the Toolset File Type & back. But i'm stil a computer padawan.

@Tyrax: have my sympathies, maybe one day you can create a similar, perhaps evolved one. And you know the phrase that "there's nothing new under the sun" - all we think original can be connected to stg done before, it still makes them unique for us. Tayo is nicely presented btw :-)

@adneate: beautiful womelf, has some kind of aura. Looks like she's equally good at making love and war :-) - that's a compliment. Very good screenies too, especially the second one

@AH: oh I thought that's Kitty's eyeliner, but Morrigan's is very similar. The bloodstained Legion armour suits her perfectly.

@DJ: great work, love those face-marks.

By the way, guys, just a random question: In what manner do you form your opinions on the pics presented here? Do you look at the characters in general, are there specific details that particularly interest you? Are the textures important to you, the clothes, the colours, the proportions? What's the most important thing for you when judging other peoples' characters? I'm asking because there are so many different aspects, and I'd just be interested to know how you feel about it, if you're willing to share! :)

You will find that everyone values different things within a design.

What I value most is realism.

If the character design doesn't have great proportions or anatomy, it is out of the picture. Some of the best designs I've seen follow the same principles of anatomy and proportions. The placement of the eyes, nose, mouth...the size and shape...all form together to look like a living, breathing person.

When I say "anatomy" and "proportions", I'm not saying that they need to look perfect or have ideal features. Rather, the design should look real. Even if a character is intended to be beautiful or ugly, you will find that you can make the proportions in a certain way, so that they look realistic.  Overall, I think anatomy and proportions are what make a design pop out of the picture and stand out from the rest. It's nice to name characters and make backstories...but what distinguishes a great design from an average one is proportions.

The next thing I value is color balance.

The hue, the saturation, the contrast and the way the colors mesh together. I tend to never use highly saturated colors for eyes and hair, "fiery eyes", etc.... as I personally feel that these hurt the design. One of the things I learned in Color Theory was how to choose the right colors for designs to make everything piece together. And the things I look for in a design is when someone makes a great design but chooses a good color scheme. There is an art in even choosing the right color scheme for someone's hair, skin, hair, eyes and clothing. Generally...less is usually better. By choosing the right colors and the right color balance, it makes the character seem that much more real.

Here's a webpage that illustrates what I'm talking about:

http://www.inspirati...d-donts-colour/

Some of the best designs I've seen look great because they look good but also because the colors chosen mesh well with the character.

Finally and most importantly, the design should be unique. It should be a design that no one else can really do and that is unique to its creator. It needs to be a design that excels in its intention. If the character is intended to be beautiful, it should be designed in a way that meets those criteria but stands above the rest that follow the same objectives.

I find that the designs that are most effective are the ones that grab my attention and have me move my chair up to look closer at the screen and picture of the design that was made.

Sorry for the wall of text.

@ All - Thanks everyone for the comments on Reinhold, it's good to know I'm on the right track with my designs.
@ meathook - I'm really glad my post has helped you create this fantastic design! She's very unique and sweet.
@ adneate - She is lovely and looks great in that armour set! I always find elven faces a challenge but you have really made her look good. nice work :)
@ Schratty - I like your new warrior. Nice strong jawline, it makes him look very purposeful. But at the same time he looks quite youthful, perhaps with something to prove?
@ AvatarHunter - Your dwarf is a cool design. She looks like she's been through a lot in her life. Sort of bitter and experienced type of face I think.
@ Tyrax - I like this version. The face proportions seem to fit together very well. I'd say she's done now!
@ DJmacpher - Awesome stuff! I may well have a go with that mod.

This character was inspired by one of my favorite designers caparzofpc. I love his style so much! Here I present Khan.

DJmacpher: He looks like an ex-convict of Aeonir (sp?) Prison! He would excel as a Renegade Playthrough Player, & yet, at the same time, It would be really interesting to have him be at least partially good, like someone that's hard & stern, yet carrying some regret over past villainy. He's full of win!

WolfheartHU: Many thanks! Tayo's in the Fade, awaiting me to be ready to play her log. I'm on Salona atm, learning the ropes on a Mage Character in direct defiance of standard issue RPG Logic. (Her unique features & appearance are doing superb at making this a fun playthrough! Tayo's gonna rock too!) Salona's enjoying Cone of Cold quite a bit. No friendly fire i've noticed yet, but we'll see if I can keep that up! :P

mochen: Many thanks! I hope i'll never need Windowed Mode ever again then. It's not natural, dang it. Games are meant to be played in Full Screen Mode. ;)

Khan's cool! He looks like he would be completely at home in a Conan Movie, perhaps as one of Conan's opponents! :D

Datenshi92: She's cute! & she looks too sweet & kindhearted to belong in battle, so naturally, I assume she's a sneaky Rogue? :P Perhaps a natural Coercer as well? :bandit:

Salona looks so freaking cool in FMV Mode! I've finally got to capture her in them:
