Petehog: More Adorable but Deadly power! I can't keep track of their numbers anymore!
Schratty: I think V1.3's done! He looks viable as an alternative Alistair!

@Caladhiel I hope your foot gets better! And thank you for the encouragement, the Legion of the Dead look is a bit strong for my tastes but I think I learned something from the design nonetheless. My background isn't that different from yours I'm a history major and can't really draw anything, I just have a friend who is an art student at the university so she explained all this proportion and colour stuff to me a while ago. That was way back when I was beating my head against the desk trying to make a character for Oblivion, it's stuck with me ever since and I think I've gotten much better at using character creators in games.
@Tyrax Lightning Thank you for you input. I'm of the opinion that if a base design is weak sticking a tattoo and a scar on it won't really make it better, they can enhance a good design but I don't think they can correct a bad design. I'll keep working on my Dwarf, I think this one might pan out in the end.

My 1 1/2 cents.
Oh, almost forgot. One loony strategy that works for me sometimes is that if ya can't make something look good, then try the strategy of reversing course & making something look as bad as ya can on purpose! It worked for Ghoulia!

So I didn't like Nilara. I started from scratch and came up with Valdir. I dunno if it was because of changes I made, or because of ___, but in one pause shot she would look depressed, sorrowful, and full of regret. Yet in another pause-shot, she would be givin' you the stink-eye.

@Tyrax Lightning I was more referring to bad geometry, that can't be hidden with tattoos and scars. I was merely being slightly irrational and harsh on my Dwarf, thinking that prehaps it was bad at a fundamental level and I was trying to cover it up with elaborate Legion of the Dead tattoos. Otherwise I believe pretty much exactly what you said.
Anyway taking some of the feedback I got on my Legionnaire concept I went back and tweaked my Dwarf design a little more. This one is less intense than the Legionnaire but incorporates some of the lessons I learned in making the Legionnaire.

We're all fine, just shaken
Not gonna have much time the comign days either. With E3 starting and me being a writer for a big gaming website I'm pretty busy with work this week.
So, let the comments begin!
@adneate
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
About the scar, well... she IS a duster and since I play her to be pretty "dumb" as in she says whatever she thinks, I can imagine Beraht going nuts on her and punishing her for being that way. However, since the scar made her look extremely different due to the complexion, I felt I had to remove it again :3
Your dwarf is again something that reminds me alot of Petehog's designs.
Lookie:
His
Yours
Not saying they are identical or anything. Just a heads up
However, as you changed her to a Legionnaire, she ROCKED
@Petehog
I was reffering to the overall features. You make most of your chars in a very specific way and both Schratty and adneate have styles that resembles your style alot.
I think it's getting hard to comment on them bacause they all look extremely alike to me nowadays.
@tmp7704
The irises are what bothers me too. They seem so unreal in most lighting.
@Tyrax Lightning
I think people rather see Petehog hired by BioWare ;P But thanks I actually found Xiang to look adorable in the horrible hat!
About Skadi's scar, that was my thought too, however it changed her so much that it didn't really feel like I was playing the same char anymore... and so I had to change it back.
@drewj1988
Sangaril looks adorable in that hairstyle :3 Good call!
Gerod still has a creepy jaw O:
Kallian is very nice! Unusual to see an elf with small eyes and such. Most make them biiiig (I do
@Caladhiel
Thanks!
Your elf reminded me of this one by Presence.
@Schratty
Ali is a pretty good design now with v 1.3
I'd say the mouth is a bit wide tho.
@yasuraka.hakkyou
Totally agreed about Skadi. Reversed her to the previous complexion :3
Your little Valdir is cute, altho I would make the eyes just a tad bit bigger.
@neppakyo
Scary

Alestia Cousland, Rogue/Archer and Duelist, in love with Leliana.

Elios Amell, Mage/Arcane Warrior and Shapeshifter, in love with Morrigan.

@Yana Montana I think they are both good designs, but I do have one comment to make. Arcane Warrior/Shapeshifter? those two specializations are sorta redundant and Spirit Healer or Blood Mage would be a much better second specialization!
@Yasuraka Exactly, long chin does mean bring it up a bit. I think the jaw and chin lines blend together pretty well but It might look nicer if the face was rounded out more.

@ Tyrax Lightning: Thank you! Although, I've already made a v 1.4 with a smaller mouth as suggested (and rightly so) by both Caladhiel and VirusCat.
@ Y.H.: I like your dwarf. The only thing I would suggest is bringing her eyes a little closer together. Like maybe .05 or something to that effect
@ adneate: I do like both designs, but I have to agree with VirusCat insomuch as I prefer the "hardcore" legionnaire look.
@ VirusCat: Thanks for the advice, I definitely took it
@ neppakyo: Just for you

neppakyo: He's awesome! I like him! He looks like a hearty eater, with a simple mind, & potentially friendly & trustworthy!
VirusCat: BioWare's in so much hot water, that they should hire both you & Petehog! I still say throw that Conehead Hat into a Fire, there's gotta be better Hats in the game to look adorable in.
Yana Montana: Alestia's lookin good, but she looks familiar... Like a Character belonging to Servant of Nature. Did Servant of Nature inspire you?
Elios is lookin like he'll be done once ya bring the Cheekbone Width in a tad. I think they're a smidgen too wide & disturbing the symmetry of the Face. (Look at me go, tryin to sound smarter than I actually am!
Schratty: I can't tell the difference between V3 & V4. But that's no surprise since my eyes are not tough buggers.
Ghoulia's seen action!

If this doesn't intimidate the enemy, I don't know what will!

Ghoulia's 1st Head Lop!

Ghoulia lookin ghoulish in the Helm.

Ghoulia Wolf Rider!!!

Ghoulia having fun dancing on a live wild Wolf's back!

Ghoulia lookin forward to giving her future Sweetie a big kiss! (Alas, it never got to happen.

Ghoulia at her freakiest!

Sorry for the long post.
One of the similarities that I have seen with Schratty is that we are relentless with our designs. I've seen Schratty
redo designs over and over and over. I'm the same way too. Whenever I make a design, I rotate it around and look for
every flaw. I keep going at it until I feel that it is done. I'll throw out designs if I have to but I keep going at it. I load up Dragon Age and take out a pen and paper. I write notes down and go back to the design and fix it. Load up the game again and keep doing it until I look at the face and I'm happy with it. Schratty has a solid understanding of proportions and a keen eye for detail.
Viruscat, you mention that adneate and I have similar design styles. To get a better understanding of what's going on, you need to read adneate's comments as a whole. The comments that adneate makes will give better insight as to what is going on. We have the same beliefs when it comes to proportions. Here's the posts by Adneate so you get a feel for what I'm talking about.
=====================================================================================
Quoted by Adneate
“Now for my advice for meathook, and this is just the way I prefer to do Elves but perhaps I can offer some additional advice and points to help you along. I tend to draw the mouth, teeth and chin upwards and then narrow the jaw slider but I use the jaw square shape to compensate the result I've found is a slightly cleaner more uniform jaw structure in general. I always put the cheekbones up just before they start changing the eye shape but draw the bones in till they match with my jaw line.”
“The only things that produce major problems are the eye and nose shape sliders since they are set at 50% by the character creator and if your .mop has them at 30% it will force them to be 50% since it doesn't understand.”
“I'd suggest drawing the chin up a bit more and evening out the jawline. That's just my personal preference I'm not a huge fan of really angular sharp faces which elves tend to suffer from, but other than that she's a really strong well done design.”
“That particular hairstyle can be a bit temperamental to work with, it's mainly because it's really flat and volume-less. It's been combed down and it really hugs the characters face, as such I'd suggest rounding the character's face a bit more longer faces work really great for short hairstyles but medium length styles like that tend to look a lot nicer if the face is more rounded out. Her chin is drawn up a bit more but the jaw slider is not narrowed much, I think this tends to fill out the hairstyle so to speak since big gaps between the hair and the face tend to make it look like a character is wearing a wig or something. That's just my thoughts on using hairstyles from that particular set."
“I always find that elves have difficulty supporting really long hairstyles their faces tend to be very narrow and that leaves a lot of room between the hair mesh and the face. I always feel it looks a bit wonky and short hair works better."
“The only nitpick I can think of is her eyes one pic might not be enough to make a firm call but they seem a wee bit big”
“If your goal is to round out the face a bit it might help to actually bring the entire mouth structure upwards with the mouth down/up slider and the teeth down/up slider. This can help create a more rounded jaw and chin line and remove the slightly elongated look the base human female face comes with. Sangaril might also benefit from darker eye makeup and a darker shade of lipstick, her hair is very dark and her eyes are pretty dark as well but she has red eye make-up that's a bit of an unconventional combination.”
“I don't really like face tattoos but that's my problem not the designs.”
“Yeah I'm just gonna say it Katrielle's eyes are way, way, way too big. The rest of her face looks just fine but her eyes drag the entire design down, they're too big and she's wearing too much makeup around them. I understand that in the CC elves have really small pinhole eyes and once you get into the toolset you want to eradicate that feature all together but you've gone too far, the design would be greatly improved if the eyes and eye makeup were reduced to values below 0.50.”
“Maybe experiment with bringing her chin up a tiny bit just to smooth out the jaw and chin line It's almost perfect but I have a feeling just a little more should really blend the chin and jaw together. Also maybe use the nostril wide/narrow slider to make her nostrils just a little bit wider (-0.10 to -0.15) might help balance out her nose. Also her cheekbones could come up a bit, they seem a bit low and it should help if they were a bit closer to her eyes. The last thing are the eyebrows right now she has a very serious look, if that's the kind of character she is then you don't really need to change anything but using the eye brow down/up slider can change her 'demeanor' a higher value of eye brow up combined with a low value of the brow down/up slider can make character look cunning and crafty while low values can make them look stren and serious.”
====================================================================================
When you read the posts above, you will find that each of the advice given by adneate pertains to proportions and anatomy. It goes beyond the premise of the toolset. There are other factors involved.
Adneate mentioned that he learned many of the things from a friend of his who was an artist.
===================================================================================
Quoted by adneate
"I'm not an art major I just know one! I just have a friend who is an art student at the university so she
explained all this proportion and colour stuff to me a while ago. That was way back when I was beating my head against the desk trying to make acharacter for Oblivion, it's stuck with me ever since and I think I've

====================================================================================
When I read the paragraph above, everything began to piece together. To be honest, the advice that adneate offered are things that I learned from my instructors in Figure drawing, Color Theory and anatomy. Proportions is something that I value over any other attribute. And this is something that I implement in each of my designs and in both of my
mods.

I think this is why some of our designs have some similarities. We share the same beliefs with proportions. We have the same dislikes. I'm not a fan of large eyes, highly saturated eye colors, fiery eyes, excessive use of tattoos, etc.
Another thing to factor in is the fact that Schratty and adneate do use DT textures. I think most people here use Pineapple Tree eye colors rather than DT textures, but DT textures were designed in a way to implement a certain style.
In the past, the limitations of the Bioware toolset was that it used tints. Tints don't have the same power as textures. As a result, there were only eyemods that gave colors such as this:

The color of eyes are never uniform. In other words, a green eye is not green all around. There are mixtures of
brown, blue, yellow which form together to create a green color. Which is something I sought to fix in DT textures.

Ineveitably when one uses these textures, it implements a certain style.
On the same token, I've noticed that those who use "Viruscat Presets" tend to make designs that look similar to those you make.
They are similar to your designs in that they have the same style. But you do things slightly different which makes your work still unique.
The same situation is with my designs. There are some similarities but I do take pride in the fact that many of my designs and elves are unique to my own style.

I'd love to use your eye texture btw, since you're completely right about the color-thing and such, but the pupils are just way too small. Also, half of the colors of your eyetextures looks like it doesn't have any depth and are just "painted on" (which isn't just a problem with your tex, but with many other ones too)
Edit: I'm a bit blunt since I'm extremely tired after covering the MS conf. online + writing newsposts and such. I'm just stating my personal opinions here and you don't have to listen to me at all if my opinions doesn't suit you. I'm just telling you what I feel about your designs.
Sorry if I sounded harsh. Good night.

Ghoulia in the Helm of the Deep is creepy. BURN IT WITH FIRE!!! lol
Petehog: did you do those drawings? mind sharing the last one, with the folders and such over part of it?
Schratty: Now that you mentioned it, her eyes did look a little too apart.

@ Petehog: Well, I consider it a compliment to have my designs likened to yours
Concerning design and aesthetics, I am neither an artist by trade nor instruction, but I am a cartoonist by hobby. My "art" is highly stylized (which is a nice way of saying "sloppy").
But, when it comes to Dragon Age stuff, I prefer realism. This is largely due to my great affinity for Petehog's Redesigned. Because I use his mod, I try to emulate - to a certain degree - that same realism in my pcs. If that means reworking a design several times, so be it.
By the same token, I also enjoy stylized work. I see merit and beauty in both, but simply prefer one to the other.
