If you call me commenting on anything made by Petehog "this" then yes, because I find it odd that I can say whatever I want about a design as long as it isn't his. I'm not trying to start something here, just stating some opinions like I do about anyone else's work.

 @YH - Alright, for Nilara, facial structure and tat, plus scar are working for me personally, I dig it.  The hair style and color in combination with that, not so much.  As for the eye color, personally I would use grey or maybe a dark color.

@Adneate - For your dwarf, I think you definitely have a stone cold killer look down.  The darker colors with what seems a light skin tone really work for me in your screenies there.  Good stuff.

@Nepp - I agree with VC, change the eye color and go full albino.

@Yana - No real comments I can make on the designs.  They both look good.  Keep up the good work.

@Schratty - Looking with wakeful eyes now, and your Alistair morph has definitely come along nicely.  You seem to have been able to maintain that Alistair feel, while roughening him up little.

@Tyrax - ZOMG.  Those Ghoulia shots are pricelss.  Wow, just wow.

And, because I have nothing new to share (will start my Dalish probably on my next set of days off), I give you my Templar and soon to be Champion, Riena, in her Warden Commander Armor, with the Cousland Family sword and shield of Highever (I know, I know, we have all seen her before).

yasuraka.hakkyou: Agreed. BioWare did lots of cool stuff, including the Toolset, but they made loads of mistakes, especially the evilly bad Mage Robes & Helms. (As if Templar policing isn't bad enough.) I don't understand why they couldn't manage cooler stuff, like Tiaras & Diadems & such. Couldn't they cheat & setup all Hairstyles with a Hair + no Tiara/Diadem version Hair, then a same Hair with the Tiara/Diadem, & have the game 'sleight of hand' switch between them as a Tiara or Diadem is 'equipped' or 'unequipped'? Hey, actually, that sounds like an awesome idea for a new Mod! B)

Schratty: Ya want her personality? She cares about her fellow City Elves as long as they aren't bootlicking Humans, but hates Humans due to the events of the Origin. I haven't decided yet how she'll regard Dwarves. I think that's as far as I can elaborate, spoiler-free. I don't wanna be a Spoiler.

Your Pic is awesome! I have a feeling that that guy is NOT gonna get a girlfriend anytime soon. :P

Wow, quite a bit has transpired since I last checked in. I think Pete has talked about style and design far more effectively than I could have. I'd just add that one of the great things about a forum like this where you can see the work of other designers, is seeing styles that are different from your own. Even if two people both like to make their characters realistic there still is a great deal of individuality that shows through, it might not be as pronounced but it is no less interesting to see. Now with that out of the way I'll move on to the Individual comments!

@Schratty I really like them both, I thought the Legionnaire was just an experiment but It worked out really well! As for you Alistair, it might be folley on a grand scale but it's great work regardless. Also your art might be highly stylized but I like it regardless!

@Tyrax Lightning :sick: It would be funnier if it didn't give me nightmares! ;)

@Petehog Those are some fantastic drawings! As someone who can't draw in any capacity I'm always interested in seeing the work of those who actually can.

@Virus Cat Well I watched the live stream of EA's conference, I can't imagine doing that for something I didn't even have a remote interest in . . . and I heard the MS conference was bad, real bad.

@Wyldsong Riena is really well done, I'm impressed with how well that hairstyle works with her face well done!

The color of eyes are never uniform. In other words, a green eye is not green all around. There are mixtures of
brown, blue, yellow which form together to create a green color. Which is something I sought to fix in DT textures.

Incidentally, the tint texture BioWare uses for its eyes is quite more sophisticated and flexible than it'd appear at a glance, and than what they actually used it for. It'd be fairly easy to do the eyes 'proper' way by setting these tint channels to set of base colours resulting in desired combination, but in most cases it's just not utilized.  So it isn't very noticeable effect because most of BioWare eye colours apply pretty much the same tone to all three slots, but the potential is there and it's interesting.

I had some fun in the Toolset making a 'for fun' Morph. Likely gonna do similar in the future when I feel like it. :)

@Adneate - The hairstyle was what I worked on the longest with her. Finally I tried the current one and it just all kind of clicked. Glad you like=)

@Tyrax Lightning I've created a conduit for the beast spoken of in revelations. On the one hand I feel pride for my part in creating something so perfectly cruel, on the other I feel the overwhelming shame of having released an evil so foul upon the earth. Seriously though I think Ghoulia's great and the wolf riding screenshots were cool! I just have to be slightly ashamed of my part is creating a . . . Force . . . so diametrically opposed to every thing I believe.:P

Wyldsong: I figured on making the Crime boss look like he's just in the beginning stages of getting old, huge & strong, & I figure a life of crime, ill deeds, & having to hide in 'underground' crime areas is gonna make an ugly bugger outta ya. Plus, it wouldn't be at all farfetched for this Crime Boss to have been born ugly to start with, & have it only get worse from there! Lastly, ugly Crime Bosses are funner to beat up than Pretty Boys, for pretty boys tend to be weaklings if they're born in Medieval Times. Making practice Lookers is on my to-do list, when I can figure out how to do so. The Toolset is so freaking different from the Character Creator, though it has one huge plus, I can tweak it to my liking BEFORE starting a Game with that Morph! If I ever get brave, I might dare to tinker around with other stuff, like Weapons & get-ups.

adneate: If you're that worried about Ghoulia running amok, create a counter-force! The Toolset awaits! Ghoulia was my very 1st Toolset Morph go! If I can make Ghoulia, you could surely trump her, especially when a City Elf isn't even a stat optimized choice of Rogue. Yet it's not like a City Elf would be a buff Warrior either, so I figured she can at least look cool! She's going through the City Elf Origin in style! (Or horror. Take your pick. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/tongue.png[/smilie])

It's hilarious to hear NPCs call her 'pretty' or 'cute' or 'beautiful' or the like! [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/lol.png[/smilie]

Making a warrior (thinking Henry Cousland) with the most gracious help of Loc. Sorry for the screenshots but I ran all over Castle Cousland and it's an utter pain to find a place where the lighting doesn't seem to play havoc with the pictures. Any tips or words welcome.

@ Wyldsong: Thank you! I doubt he'll ever be truly finished. Riena is truly a wonderful design, so post away! I like how she encompasses a wide range of things: she has an air of tomboyish-ness, while being both beautiful and noble-looking.


@ Tyrax Lightning: Ah, so she has a personality to match her looks ;)  Although, the hating of humans is understandable, and hilarious at times (ex: Choosing to say you'll just kill Duncan during the exchange with Soris about what to do concerning the "outsider").

The front view of your crime boss is pretty good, but the side view - yeah...as stated before, he might needs some rhinoplasty. Unless that was intentional  :)

Thanks, btw. That was based on many unfortunate true events. I was not amused :P

@ Swoo: Amazing work! Klarabella is absolutely right about him looking realistic! I hesitate to suggest altering anything, except maybe maybe shortening his jaw just a little bit. If it doesn't look right, then definitely switch to what you had before. It's just an idea to play with :D

Swoo: I like him! He looks like a Warrior - Scholar! Like the kind of Warrior that can also strategize proficiently! If Schratty's suggestion of raising the Chin a tad doesn't work out & ya return it to it's original position, also consider lowering the Mouth 1-2 clicks. If that's not to your liking, or the large, prominent Chin is intended, then he can work as is.

Schratty: Funny ya should mention 'killing Duncan', that's exactly how I went in the Origin! I don't wonder why he was amused by it considering that he was conning Orange & there would be no way to start the fight stealthed! I done bolder from there, but I still wanna avoid spoiling for any who may be reading this Thread before having gone through a City Elf play.

It was intentional for the Qunari Crime Boss to be ugly. Ugly Crime Bosses are funner than Pretty Boys. :D

That is correct.

But that's exactly the problem there.

The problem is that there are lack of colors and the actual STRUCTURE of the eye is flawed.

Here's my attempt to draw a Bioware eye.

If you open up the toolset and open up any default Bioware eye, you'll notice that each eye has a pupil which takes up the entire structure of the eye..sort of as I've drawn above. The "black mass" is precisely the reason why all of the eyes in Dragon Age are very dark colored. This leads to a situation where a green eye looks like dark brown and dark blue. They all are so dark that each eye begins to look the same.

Therein lies the problem.

If you look in a mirror or at photos of eyes, that's not how an eye is structured. Although the toolset gives you the option to blend three colors, it's still not helpful. 

Three colors..is frankly not enough. Also textures are helpful because I can place the colors where I want them to be. Let's say I want to put it on the middle, or top or bottom or anywhere...a texture allows me to do so. But most importantly, it allows me to change the structure of the eye whereas you cannot with tints. Granted, I still have a lot to learn and as Viruscat mentioned, the pupils need to be adjusted (something I'm fixing in 7.2)...but at the end of the day, I think it will end up looking better than the originals with some time.

Hmm this isn't really very accurate. The actual eye texture of BioWare eye looks like this:

i've cranked up contrast and removed the effect colour blending has on it so the layout is more visible, but it's pretty much what it's like. As you can see, the pupil is pretty normal sized. Now, there might be something funny done with the shader that affects overall appearance of the eye on top of that, but since it's independent of texture work, it'll affect all eyes equally.

Three colors..is frankly not enough.

It is probably my error for wording it wrong, but you are forgetting about the blending and changes to the luminosity of the colours introduced by the tint texture. Let me put it this way -- everything we see on our screens is made of three colours, too: red, green and blue. But the fact these three colours get composed together and shown with various brightness makes all the difference Posted Image

Now of course, with the custom texture you do get better control over the exact colours and placement, that's perfectly true. I just brought that up because i think the default eye textures are actually more than adequate and capable of much more than people give them credit for. They were just never used to their full potential, even by their original makers.

mochen: I can't tell if Svetlana is a Human or Elf, so I can't be sure how to gauge the Anatomy. She's a cutie either way!
