If I skip the quests available to me when I first arrive at the Citadel (the consort, scanning the keepers, the guy who wants your autograph, etc) and just do the main plot quests and become a Spectre, can I come back at a later date and do them, or are they only available during the initial visit? 

I know some side quests are thrown at you as you do the MQ, so those are fine. I'm just talking about the ones you go out of your way for.

You should be able to do those sidequests at any time. I've done a great many of them after visiting my third main-plot planet, for instance.

Alright, thanks. Just wanted to make sure they didn't get replaced with new quests after the plot progression or something.

It's not only possible its pretty much required if you're achievement hunting. Liara's achievement pretty much requires that you do those quests after Therum.

I like doing the qests first, that way you have enough talent points so you don't die every time some one points a gun in you general direction once you go off the station

Skip them and go get Liara. You have to anyway if you want her achievement. Short of the Krogan showdown and *maybe* the Colossus fight if you can't get your squadmates to safety, Therum can be done just fine at low level. Just bring two squadmates with shields and one with tech.

Honestly, your first pirate/stronghold showdown will be tons tougher since they have Immunity and you'll still have those Level 3 guns at this point...
