Hello!

Firsty sorry if this has been asked before and secondly yes I did use the search funtion but couldn't be sure if the search resturned nothing or was just being stupid

Ok, so my cope of Dragon Age arrived today wheeeeee

I have installed it, patched it, used my codes etc

I run the game and the opening title from Bioware adn EA is kinda jumpy and sluggish - i thought meh doesn't matter however when I got into the game itself I'm getting frustrated because when I turn my character or try to walk, talk to someone etc. It is REALLY sluggish (kinda like lag from an MMO) I think it's the frame rates?

I'm only semi-technical savvy so I'm not sure if it's the game or my system - The latter most likely.

Google didn't seem to have any magical answer so I share my noob-ness with you all :P

If someone is kind enough to give em some tips to make the game actually playable I will love you forever. I'm not frustrated because I'm sure something can be done, I just don't know what.

Here is my current system:

OS - Vista 64 bit (god I hate Vista...)
Processor - Intel Core Duo P8700 @ 2.53 Ghz 2.53 Ghz
RAM = 4GB
Hard drive space - 230 GB or more

Graphics Card - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670 (drivers are up to date)

I'm pretty sure the audio isn't a problem so I haven't listed it.

Oh and I'm playing on a new laptop I bought in August this year - built for movies, burning and gaming so I'm pretty sure it should be able to handle DA: O

Anyways as anxious as I am to play, hack n slash, hunt the baddies, and ride off into the sunset with Alistair, I can wait a bit and maybe get some sleep from pulling an all nighter to finish uni assignments :innocent:

Any help would be greatly appreciated as my tecchie friend who works night shift is currently sleeping....

Ok scrolling up I noticed this is kinda long...Sorry!

Thanks again

I am having the same problem, with almost the same specs, I've tried changing all the graphics to low, thinking maybe it was just too much for my computer, but nothing really changed. It happens every twenty seconds or so, and it's getting quite irritating...

I would alt-tab out and see if your processor cores are getting pegged at 100%. Seems there is an issue where this happens, and it makes the game studder on machines that should blow past the requirements.

yes my CPU is pegged at 100% i have nothing else running just DA:O

and it is using both processor cores CPU 0 and CPU 1...

Hmm maybe I might give my little laptop a rest for half and hour and see if that changes anything - also gives me a chance to clean the keyboard...

Thankyou for your help so far - glad I'm not alone! In any case I tend blame the computer not the game because there is more enjoyment in yelling at electronic objects...

That system should be able to run the game pretty well. I would try disabling "frame buffer effects" from the video options screen until a more proper solution can be found. Personally, I like the way the game looks with them disabled better, but I'm probably in the minority. On my system they halved my framerate and make things look too "hazy" in my opinion.

I tried disabling the frame buffer effects as suggested, but nothing changed as far as I can tell. I'm going to try restarting the game, maybe letting my computer cool down, too.

Hmmm, I have a p8600 2.4ghz but an Nvidia card. I wonder if maybe this is ATI related?

If you getting maxed out cpus, try CPU-control. http://www.softpedia...U-Control.shtml

Run the prog
Set mode to manual
Run the game
When in, alt-tab out and right click the games exe, set CPU 1+2
Check in game and task manager and see if it helps

This helped me alot, but haven't tested for any great length of time. Might want to spread the other processes over the cores aswell.

Hope it helps someone.=]

By the way, I'm using an ancient Athlonx2@2.5

Your spec is fine. Problem should be on else where. What about your video driver?

Sometime soundcard can be the culprit too. Any software in the back ground?

My laptop spec is ...
OS - Win7 Ultimate x64 bit
Processor - Intel Core Duo P8700 @ 2.53 Ghz 2.53 Ghz
RAM = 4GB DDR2
Hard drive space - 320 GB 5400RPM
Video Card: ATI Mobility Radeon 4650

I can run the game on high graphic and high texture with 2xAA. Got round 30-40 fps. Yours is about the same and even a bit higher. So, the problem is definitely not your spec.

Like I said, I'm pretty sure this is either code related in the game not properly using resources, or a dual core processor isn't enough for this game at full settings. If I remember, one guy mentioned having all 4 cores running at around 60 - 70%.

what i heard on the other threads was that it was a memory leak issue. I have the same issue and what i found what worked was that if you push the pause button and hold tab while you play it should go back to normal for a little bit.
