I've been wondering about this recently.

I can see the effect Heavy Weapon Ammo Capacity has on the Collector Particle Beam, because the ammo amount goes up.

But with the Collector Assualt Rifle and Geth Pulse Rifle, I can not.

With the Widow Anti-Material Rifle (for example), the number changes from M-98 to X-98e.
But because these weapons don't have numbers, I can't tell that at at a glance.

Does anyone know if the Upgrades I apply to Assault Rifles has an effect on this weapons?

Yes they are upgraded even w/o a name change.

You improve the ammo of all of them as well. I think Gernade launcher starts with 6 or 12 shots? I notice the more I improve the heavy weapons I wind up with more than the starting ammo like 24 and so on. Also the Heavy weapons part for your ammo increases the ammo capacity as well. Like I finished the game with that part with Cain's Max Capaticity at 175%.

Also Widow Anti Material rifle isn't a heavy weapon, it's a "Sniper Rifle" and gets enhanced through Weapons development and not the prototype section.

I don't think he was specifically talking about Special weapons in the sense of Heavy Weapons so much as the unique assault rifles. Collector Assault Rifle and the Geth Pulse Rifle.

I've not taken my only soldier into ME2 yet, but there should be no difference (mechanics-wise) between those two rifles and the Revanant/Vindicator rifles. Just no 'model' marking.

A Dev has confirmed that the Geth Pulse Rifle and the Collector Assault Rifle do benefit from any Assault Rifle Upgrades you get.
