Hey, was wondering if any other forum members love Doctor Who like myself.  I'm an American, and the Series 5 (31), premiere was tonight.  I loved it, though I'm not sure if I love Matt Smith as the Doctor yet, Moffat's writing is still as great as ever.

Anyway, what did any of you guys think?  And if you're a brit, and you've seen several episodes ahead of me, please try to avoid spoilers.  It would be much appreciated.

And if you're strictly RTD era or even classic Doctor Who, you're welcome here too, of course.  :D

I love the older Doctor Whos. I used to watch it every Saturday night on public television. I haven't watched the newer series sadly.

Only thing I like about Doctor Who is the cool opening music. Other than that the series is garbage. I used to watch it in the eighties when I was in elementary school. Hated it.

The new Dr Who is pretty good, I thought he would be rubbish.

He's better than Tennent I think, the new look is great too.

No, it is only the truth. He makes me miss Chris's Doctor less.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm not ranking him until at least a full season passes.

BTW, as far as new look goes, love the new logo, don't mind the new credits, but wtf is with that new arrangement on the theme song?  Ugh.

Other then the music (ya, don't like as well) the show was good indeed. Same writing as the past ones, I enjoyed it. but ya, that music was just ... well not dr.who.

The Amy Pond character seems like she is smarter than the other companions he has had, making doctor like leaps of logic.  S Like she made with the star wale and with the Dalek android S also she seems to have the good personality aspects of Donna and the best positive  is she is there for the fun of it, not because she is in love with the doctor, like so many other of  the New Who Companions.

I used to watch the series religiously every week, but once they finished the series with sylvester McCoy, I lost interest, maybe it was the huge gap before the bad movie, or another series. Anyway I haven't had any interest in watching it since.

I really couldn't stand Donna, Amy Pond seems like a nice Scottish girl, actually likable.

Steven Moffat was a great choice to take over from RTD. Alot of the RTD stories started out well with some good ideas and just fizzled out with a usually crappy conclusion.

We're up to ep 3 in the UK. I wasn't convinced about Matt Smith when they first announced him (he looks about 12) but the first episode dispelled any concerns, Amy Pond is likeable but I;m not completely sold yet. The writing's worrying me though. After a great series opener the second ep was quite good but last night's felt a little flat and, without giving any spoilers, I'm not convinced by some of the choices or the direction they seem to be taking

RTD was a bit melodramatic and smug with his episodes.

I liked RTD, but he def has moments where I just went wtf? How does that make sense? (Season 3 finale, anyone?) But overall, most of his stuff is very enjoyable in my opinion, and he takes a lot of his cues from Joss Whedon without blatantly copying him (on DW anyway, on Torchwood...well let's just say it's clear RTD was a fan of the show Angel). I like him, but I like Moffat better. Honesly if I ranked my top 5 New Who stories:

1.) Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead (Moffat)

2.) Empty Child/Doctor Dances (Moffat)

3.) Midnight (RTD)

4.) Blink (Moffat)

5.) Army of Ghosts/Doomsday (RTD)

So even with his like six total episodes or so, He has more in my top lists than RTD whose written like 30+ or so DW episodes. So it's clear he was the right man for the job. The premiere is only further evidence of that IMO.

Season 3 final was "The Sound Of The Drums" wasn't it?

That's my favorite episode of the show, it's very satisfying seeing the bad guy out-right own.

As ever, with RTD the season 3 finale build up was great but he completely borked the ending. And don't get me started on Tennant's exit, I enjoyed the final 10 mins but the whole return of the master/timelords/gallifrey was a shockingly wasted opportunity

That was a great episode, but it wasn't the finale, "Last of the Time Lords", the conclusion to that story, was the finale, and while it wasn't horrible, there is one moment that is absolutely facepalm worthy.

The Darleks will never go away, it would be like Star Wars without Darth Vader.

I'm going to wait till the season is over to really judge Matt Smith, although I have to say I'm not really impressed with the new season yet. It feels like it's lacking energy, I'm just hoping that it will get really exciting with the appearance of River Song and actually trying to tie Tennant's Doctor to Smith's Doctor.

Matt Smith's "The Doctor" (It's not "Doctor Who", people. It's "The Doctor") is quite good, and I've enjoyed both episodes I've seen so far. I'm going to watch the third episode later today on iPlayer, and I've got to say I'm looking forward to it.

He reminds me a lot of Tennant and his performance, but it's different enough. They both surpass Ecclestone though, and by a huge margin.

I like Doctor Who but i still think David Tennant was better than Matt Smith but hes better than i expected, it could have been worse. Torchwood is good too.
