Now, this is indeed a lag problem of sorts, but it has some oddities to it, I think. Then again, I'm not a computer wizard, but I like to think I know the basics.

Basically, I play the game for the first few days. Runs great. a great game, lots of fun. Try a few different origins, ect.

Then, just a couple days ago, hard to tell when exactly, started, oh, in Fade at Circle Tower, I get this really annoying issue that has yet to cease. It was go through a cycle, playing fine for several minutes, and then slowly down to an agonizing creep for several more minutes, then finally get back to normal.
Over and over.
Now, conversations slow down and the lag makes it look funny, but it's still far from mind numbing. Combat and exploration, on the other hand, turn into a hellstorm of pain, where simple actions go at at least 1/10 speed, and really choppy too. The normal parts, works fine, great as always.

Now, it may be my computer, but it played just fine for the first bit, as I've said, and since then I lowered the graphics.
Also, deleted all my autosaves.
I've reset. It generally fixes it, but it still hits the slowdown at about the usual time, far as I can tell, and the cycle continues.
Also, this slow down doesn't occur with any other program, just Dragon Age.
So far, all I can think of is:

1. Something similar to the problem many people are having with long loading times, only my loading times are still fine even with lag.... slightly choppy still, but it's barely slowed. Now, by this I mean the problem with saves and how the longer you play the slow it goes....

2. Toolset/Patch. Now, I don't have much reason to sucspect these, but these did seem to come out about the time this problem started.....

3. Oddly timed computer issue. Pretty possible, I think, but I just don't know why....

4. The Maker hates me. A district possibility, even though the character this is on, since I'm mostly playing him to try and see the ending, is a nice, pious, polite, kind yet strong, human noble...

Interesting.

Just started a new character. Low and behold, it slows and lags. Might not be what I thought it might....

Check out my workaround. Maybe it helps. It fixed my similar problems.

Hm... don't think so.

Seems more like a mem leek to me...

Whatever it is, sure hope that it's something Bioware can find a solution to....

DA:O seems finicky when other programs are running, or if something is being downloaded at times. Do you have any Task Manager stuff running in the background, is a program trying to update or anything like that?

I just ran into the exact same issue. I beat the the boss in the mage tower right after the fade, and then I started getting stuttering in cut scenes. So bad now that it crawls to like 1-2 fps. Everything's up to date driver wise. It has been running like butter since it the release now this...Very disappointing!!

Hmmm.. Happens after just a few minutes? Could try this.

tap your Windows key, type "Power Options" in the search box.

Change it to "High Performance"

If it doesn't help, I'm full of stuffing-- be sure to change it back. ;)

High performance is already checked for me. Issue still persists. I even tried disconnecting from internet so I wasn't connected, nope...still stuttering extremely bad in cut scenes.

Ok I even turned everything down to low settings and turned off the sound. Still I get stuttering in cut-scenes and it comes to a crawl? Anyone have any of these issues? I'll post my system, but as mentioned I was running this game like butter maxed since it came out. Now all of a sudden slow down city. And no nothing is running in the background...

As mentioned this started happening after fighting the fade mage tower boss..and now I have to fight the surprise attack by Zevran the elf and after I beat his attack, he begins to talk in the cut-scene and it chugs down to 1-2 fps and just halts. I have to alt-tab out and kill the game.

not noticing it so much in cut-scenes, but I am getting framerate problems just walking around. I am running on a computer between minimum and recommended hardware, but I was running with no problems on medium settings till yesterday and now I can't get through a single fight without framerates dropping into single digits.

Zero frame-rate issues playing the game..cut-scenes have become unbearable. I am now un-installing the game and re-installing to see if this works...

Re-installed and the problem persists...To me that is a sign of a game issue. NO one is having cut-scene stuttering lately???

Yep, sounds the same.

My cutscenes do stutter, but the voices work fine, if slightly off time. Must be because they're just MP3 files or some such....

Seems like it's related to time, but then it effects new games too.... and it only happened recently. Odd.

Ok I'm going to keep bumping this thread. I can not play the game any more because of this stuttering. It locks up my game! I rolled back video drivers, installed new audio drivers, deleted re-installed the game, played with lowest graphic settings everything turned off, and it still stutters and lags like crazy now upon the Zevran cut-scene??? And no nothing is running in my background, I am a more than competent user, I just don't get what is going on....

I'm having a similar problem. It's not as extreme as what I'm hearing, but there's definite stuttering just walking around. And, strangely, just being in the opening menu. Everything is staggered and painful. Even in a fresh game. I really don't get why it's persisting, and increasing. Especially since, as many have said, it ran perfectly at first. For almost the entirety of my first playthrough in fact.

Hmmm. I "cleared the download cache" and it all works shinily like it did in the good ol' days.

I also quit windows messenger.

Will test
