One big plus I'd mention in favor of insanity over hardcore is that a lot of the bosses have unique behaviors on insanity that make fighting them a lot more interesting.  Captain Wassea for example will fling some crates which open up an entirely new part of the level, while the final boss will start destroying parts of the platform you're standing on.

Wha? That's only on insanity?
(I wouldn't know ... I've never played on anything else)

That can happen on lower difficulties too if you don't take her out fast enough.

Really?  Hmmmm, I guess I just always took her down quick enough on the lower difficulties that it never triggered.

I did my Insanity run as an Infiltrator NG+ and never noticed anything strange. Is NG+ Insanity meant to be a lot harder or something? As far as I can tell there's just Insanity and Insanity, not Insanity and NG+ Insanity.

Enemies level along side the player; but since your upgrades don't carry over to NG+ you start the game at level 30 with no upgrades which is a lot harder than being at level 30 with upgrades.

I find it a lot harder.

Try doing it on insanity... It's great when you manage to kill Wassea before she enters the upper level.

Oh yeah, especially with an engineer ... drop a drone on her, and her friends fire rockets at it.

Hilarity ensues.

I barely noticed the difference with my infiltrator, but really noticed it with my adept. My theory is that for whatever reason, an overload/disruptor burst/incinerate/etc attack with work beautifully on hardcore, but leaves a sliver of protection on insanity, forcing you to waste time zapping it off. Warp explosions also don't seem to be instant kills for anyone other than the easiest opponents. On Mordin's recruitment, I remember having to bounce a krogan three times before he went to Krogan Valhalla. It was kind of funny-- he kept yelling "you coward!" at me.

Hey, that's interesting.
I wonder how much it matters if you pick up the biotic & tech damage bonuses from Firewalker & Kasumi missions early?
Might test it myself ..

For me insanity wasn't much "harder" but took a little more patience. To me the jump from Vet. to HC was MUCH bigger than the jump from HC to Insanity.

Reave does 10% reduced damage on hardcore and 20% reduced on insanity.

As for Wassea - dominating her rocket firers has the same effect as the drone.

Vorcha are really funny on insanity ng+. If you try doing Mordins recruitment mission with zaeeds squad disruptor as your ammo and avoid using any powers, then they are practically impossible to kill as they regenerate faster than you can unload a clip into them and reload.

Why on earth would you do this???

Dunno ... maybe to see how many vorcha can be kept in the air simultaneously with chaincasted pull fields?

'cos I always wondered about that.

Because after beating the game a dozen times on insanity & ng+ I'm looking for different ways to spice up game play and keep the game fun.

Insanity isn't that much more difficult than Hardcore. I'm using a level 53 imported Soldier and I haven't got frustrated enough to tune down the difficulty. Insanity on Mass Effect 2 is way more easier then on Mass Effect (1).

i wish that were true but i've seen both of those events happen on Normal.  they probably trigger earlier on higher difficulties, though.

I think they nailed insanity's level of difficulty. If you die it's because you made a mistake. The margin of error isn't very large but there isn't really anything cheap about it. After you clear the game a few times on insanity it really becomes pretty easy....as long as you don't screw up.
