In the Brecilian Forest, your faithful Mabari may find a root and lay it at your feet.  If nobody in the party has Improved Herbalism or better, you are none the wiser—"You don't know what it's for."  The root quietly ceases to exist for the rest of the game.

If, however, you or a companion has Improved Herbalism or better—"You think that it might have some sort of healing property."  The root then appears in your inventory.

One problem.

It's a Deathroot.

With no healing property at all.

So what does this say for the herbalist(s) in the party?  You trust these people to mix your poultices and salves and brew your potions?

And what does it say for any poison-makers (e.g. the rogues) in the party?  Can't recognize a simple deathroot?  One of the reagents for one of the two poisons you know by default?  Just what is their agenda?

:D

IMHO, this "forest herb" (as implied in the source) was originally meant to be some higher-tiered reagent herb for Herbalism, perhaps, but then recipes and reagents got simplified and they changed it to Deathroot (because Elfroot was already commonly "findable" by the Mabari as one of its normal random junk item finds).

Morrigan: "I also know at least fifteen different poisons that grow here in this swamp."
