I recently purchased Mass Effect on steam and in order to launch it I believe I have to put the CD Key to validate it. But when I would use the "copy to clipboard option" and I enter the CD Key it says it's invalid ... does anyone know what to do?

Steam deals with that stuff separately so you'll have to contact them for support.

The Steam version of ME1 shouldn't be asking you for a CD key. You didn't patch it yourself, did you? ME1 on Steam comes pre-patched, and like many Steam versions of games, you shouldn't try to patch it yourself.
