Sorry if this has been asked before. I did a search but couldn't find my specific query.

First the question:

I just finished ME1 however, when I started ME2, my save didn't appear. Is there a trick to making it save? I have also checked ME1 and I cannot load the previous career when starting a game again so, to me, this indicated the endgame save didn't happen

Now the history:

In December last year I finished ME14 times.
The first was with most of the decisions I wanted.
The second waswith renegade maxed
The third time was where I did all the missions but didn't bother with the side story stuff like love interest or paragon/renegade
The fourth was an insanity "speed run" so nothing much was done
Anyway I started ME2 and realised none of these saves were the one that I wanted (first two weren't lvl 60, last three didnt have decisions I wanted to carry over).
So this weekend I played it thru with my lvl 60 character, making all the decisions I wanted to carry over. After the title screen loaded again I turned off the game and put in ME2. All I can see there are the saves from 2009, my 2010 charcter isn't there.

HELP! Please. I'll be really annoyed if I've just played thru the game and all side missions for nothing. Can't find anything on the interwebs about it. I've send a support request off as well.

Try and see if you can load up the last auto save (if you had it turned on) of that ME1 game you just finished. If you can, then make a separate manual save too. See if that loads up in ME2.

While you have ME1 in, you might as well try and open the last available save for each and every game you listed up there. Sometimes re-opening the save files resets it for ya. Before you do any of this though, you may want to clear your cache first.

Otherwise, you just might be SOL. Your save files could have been corrupted somewhere along the way, which happens sometimes - especially if you've switched hard drives and transferred data, kept saves on a separate card, recovered your gamertag and account, or gods forbid you modded.

Thanks. I've loaded the last auto save (was at the end fight) and finished the game again, also loaded the last manual save (just outside this "room") and done the same.

How do you load a save like this in ME2? I thought it was only the auto created ones at the end of the game that carry across.

Clear my cache? On X360?

Additional Info - I should have mentioned. My previous 4 save files show up. It's just the recent "re run" that doesn't show up.

Hopefully I'm not SOL as I'll be really put off playing ME2 or Origins if this is an indication of the reliability of save transferal :(

Yes, it's only the auto-created files that go into ME2. (And as you say, you should be seeing this file in ME1 too when going to New Game -> Select Existing ID. If it's not there either, I would agree that it seems the problem lies with ME1 not creating it in the first place.)

I'm afraid I don't know much about the XBox versions, I'm not sure what could be going wrong.

I thought the thing was that you could only import your first 11 ME1 saves into ME2? Or did that change?

The 11 saves thing I believe was a PC issue, but has since been resolved. I think.

It wasn't that your manual save could be loaded in ME2, but I recommended that b/c it might have helped re-initiate the save point for that game so it would appear for you in your ME2 import options. I'm guessing you tried it and it didn't work then?

One other thing - Did you let the credits roll? I usually do that, even though I don't know that it makes a difference. I just like to be sure it registers as fully complete (plus I love the end credit music) ;)

You clear you 360 cache by going into your system settings> memory> in that screen you should be able to highlight your HDD and select it, then choose the maintenance (or something like that) option. This is the newer method since the recent dashboard updates. It's usually the best first step to take when you're having issues like this.

That changed.  No limit for either version of ME2.

Irrelevant to this case anywa as I only have 4 saves :).

Unfortunately yes, I tried it a few times without success.

The first time I didn't, but the second and third times I did as I thought it may make a diff. Quite funny actually, I was talking to my wife and said "It's a pain that you can't skip this stuff. Should be able to pres a button rather than have to sit thru it time and time again." I then pressed a couple of X360 buttons to emphasise my point and skipped the credits. lol.

Thanks, I'll give that a go tonight as one of the things that happened between the last saves and this new runthru was that a major dashboard update was applied (took me right back to initial configuration and load my gamertag screen :( )

Cache cleared....
Sitting thru credits now....
Fingers crossed....

Dammit! Obviously this process met with no success :( I think I'll just have to wait to hear back from BioWare and the end result is just going to be "bad luck". This sorta stuff really annoys me. Stuff like this is a great addition but can be terrible if it doesn't work! ARGH!

Still no luck? One other question - You aren't making the save to a thumb drive or any other external device, are you? You should be saving it to your regular 360 HDD, an that's where it should stay. The ME saves are particulary wonky when it comes to the saves being anywhere else than the HDD.

Nope, just have the one hard drive, same one I've used all along.

I think mine's just pooched for some reason. Tish out of luck. Will just have to start ME2 with a new character (I won't be playing ME1 thru a couple of times again just to get the save)...when the red mist dies down and I feel like playing it. Hopefully they've learnt from this and the many other issues and we won't see it happening with ME3.

Well, you still have your first save, right? Doesn't that one have most decisions you wanted? Even if it's not level 60, you'll still get a bit of a boost for the import, and you can change everything but background when you import it (appearance and class).

Most of them. I missed some stuff like Tali's side quest and made the wrong choice regarding the council (I thought it was the right choice but I misunderstood the options).

You're right though. That'll have to do and I hope it doesn't happen for ME3. It's a shame really as I'll not be so much of a completionist in this series now as a result.

I may be wrong on this, but I was under the impression that you could change some of those main decisions, particularly with the council, at the beginning of ME2 when Jacob and Miranda shoot questions at you on the shuttle (after you get resurrected and are leaving the lab). I hadn't tried it since I was fine with my ME1 import save decisions. It's the way they set up the game background for non-ME1 import games, but I'm kinda sure it works for your import as well. I read something about it in random forums.

You can change your decision on Udina vs. Anderson on the shuttle (because they forgot to save that one, so the game literally just goes with whatever decision you choose to "remember" in ME2). Unfortunately, the others cannot be changed.

Just to chime in: It's not just you.

ME1 recorded my first 21 endgame saves (many of those just replaying the last couple missions a few different ways, but yeah, I beat ME1 an embarrassing number of times). Now it simply doesn't record them at all, period, not even for NG+ in ME1. Bummer, as my favorite character was game #22, and that one was a new game from scratch.

Granted, I am playing on a newer hard drive than the one I was using on ME1. The old one gets cleared of all data when you use the HD transfer kit, or else I'd try migrating my gamertag over there to see if that was a relevant variable.

Any other tips would be appreciated (especially from you friendly Bioware folks), but I'm guessing I'm equally SOL here.

Yay! I got a repsonse from BioWare....

oh hang on. It's an automated response telling me that they've got my query and a human will be looking at it soon. Well two weeks is better than nothing I guess. Lol. ME2 can just sit there unplayed for a while longer
