Ok, here's another one where I'm running aorund like a chicken with its head cut off. I just can't seem to locate anything to move me in the right direction for this. It sounds, from Sten's story, that he lost the sword near Lothering, but that's unavailable due to the Blight. I can't find it in Flemeth's area, nor have I been able to find word of it anywhere else (although I've not fully explored Denerim or the forest yet.
Could someone be able to at least tell me the general vicinity where I can find the next stage? I'm just stumped.

If you listened to his story he will tell you he and his friends camped at Lake Calenhad, where they were attacked by Darkspawn and that's where he lost his sword.
So, head to Lake Calenhad with Sten in your party. It should trigger a convo when you get there and you will be able to progess.

Ah, thanks, I remember that now. For some reason, I had Lothering stuck in my head.

The weird thing about that quest is you can skip ahead in it. As in, you can find out about the sword and then go demanding it from someone who you would have no idea would own the sword, which makes you quite possibly psychic (if Sten was in your party, you could say that you spotted it, but as you don't know exactly what the sword looks like, it seems like you just walk up to a random person and start demanding things from them).
...I wonder if that's just a slight hick-up in the quest coding, or if it needs to be that way due to future events.

If you bring up the map, his house is labelled.
