Yeah, I actually like her voice. Kind of... fluctuating slightly. It's not seductive like some are, and it just seems kind of... cute to me. ^^KendallX23 wrote...

Interesting. Thanks! This makes sense. ^^Nozybidaj wrote...
I liked Tali in ME1 but thought her story in ME2 was kinda lame. All they did was take Liara's old role of the cute, kinda geeky, sweet romance option and gave it to Tali. Even her story in ME2 mimics Liara's 1) Save her from being trapped by a geth attack on a remote world 2) Console her after the loss of a parent 3) Take her virginity
It would have been nice if BW had given her something original instead of just swapping her into Liara's old role.

That's really cool. Thanks! ^^Nightfish103 wrote...
I like Tali for my own reasons, and neither the hyper-fans nor the hyper-haters can spoil that for me. Well, I tend to steer clear of the rant threads so I don't know neither side that much, beyond what spills over to regular threads. Still, I find it funny how a lot of people dislike her just because of the apparantly massive fanbase. Seems like some people can't form their own opinion, but there you go...
What I like about Tali is that she's consistent. She has well defined values and they are consistent from ME1 to ME2. That fact is mostly worth mentioning because of how Liara turned out, I guess. Prior to ME2 I wouldn't have given huge points for not messing up characters for no reason. If they turned Tali into a murdering psychopath in ME2 (or if they're going to do that in ME3) I wouldn't / won't like her anymore either.
In contrast to some other characters she can also be reasoned with. There's this scene between her and Legion and she will even meet him half-way, which has to be a tremendous step for a Quarian. I struggle to make politically correct analogies here, suffice it to say that it's pretty huge. Tali can be made to see that Legion isn't that much different from her in his desire to protect his people.
What appeals to me personally is that she's just a genuinely good person. Her moral values I can subscribe to. She's concerned about more than her immediate gain, as evidenced by her loyalty mission. Yea, it's all the rage to be badass and ****y these days, but that doesn't appeal that much to me. The novelty of being rude and all "in your face" wears thing real fast with me.
The voice actress did a really good job on her, too, but so did most of the VAs.
The character as a whole just makes sense. Everything she does or says fits her personality. That's a huge bonus for me. If you take other Bioware games, there's one companion I can specifically think of that always disapproves when you help *anybody* but then comes crying for your help when that companion has problems of their own. Previous like or dislike aside, stuff like that just doesn't sit well with me. If your attitude is that everyone should take care of their own problems, don't come crying to me for help.
Tali does stuff for good reasons. She joins Shepard in ME1 for good reasons and continues to be loyal to him because he's shown that he's worth it in ME1. (at least my Shepard did, I actually never played that much of a renegade to know whether or not it's possible to be ass enough so that it no longer makes sense that Tali is loyal to Shep.)

I wouldn't call myself a fan but I do like her. With "strangely popular" I meant that I couldn't understand what makes them popular. No offence to anyone who thinks different of course. But let's not derail the thread please.Ieldra2 wrote...

If you want to know why other characters are popular you could ask in their character threads. You're invited (see my sig).lovgreno wrote...

I'm not really surprised Tali is popular. But the very attributes that make her so also make her less interesting than some of the other characters *you* consider "strangely popular". In RL, I probably would prefer someone like Tali for a nice, sweet and relatively low-conflict relationship to a more challenging one like with Miranda. But ME2 is fiction, and we all can become the heroes of our dreams. When I play ME2, I always get the impression that my Shepard leaves Tali behind, and Miranda is the only one who can keep up. Why others feel differently and prefer Tali anyway, I can't say.

Those are very good points. It's called ROLE playing for a good reason. Shepard X likes Tali while Shepard Y have a different taste and neither Shepard as who we are in real life.
I probably expressed myself clumsily, it was not my intention to sound like someone elses opinions was less worth than mine. Each to their own and all that.
I'll give your Miranda thread a visit then.
Now lets not derail anymore.

I'm what you might consider a "rabid Talimancer" I post in the thread, I get defensive about Tali sometimes, however I like my entire crew. At first I just liked the voice, the mysteriousness but then come ME2 I loved her geeky personality, her nervousness and well... everything. Bioware has crafted an amazing, well developed character I like to give them full credit for it, best way I know how is support threads.
Now what I want to know is why Tali fans are hated so much, what did we ever do to earn this hate?

Well you know some people like to feel that they are better than others so they pick a group to gang up on. When they point at the fans of Tali and scream "Geeky!" they feel less geeky about themselves. Not generalising about any individual of course.

I don't mind Tali, even though her romance irks me a whole damn lot. As a gal myself, I think she shouldn't think so little of herself and her representation of "the good girl every guy is dreaming of when his gf is ****ing at him" just annoys me. And Talimancers make my skin crawl.
I make your skin crawl, do I? <_<
