Well actually I never was either. Certainly I liked her but I never got any sense that Shepard did, or even that she liked Shepard. I never felt a romance would work. I figured that if Bioware insisted on one that it should be a bitter-sweet romance that ultimately ends with both Shepard and Tali acknowledging their feelings but then also accepting that they can't be together.
Edit: Also, I don't think Tali and Shepard's relationship can stand the test of time. I don't think the quarians would be terribly accepting, and ultimately they can't have a real family together. If they decide to part ways later and Tali finds love amongst her own people she might regret allowing Shepard to take her virginity.
