Try running the executable file out of C:\\Program Files\\Dragon Age. You'll want to run daorigins.exe, see if that works.

Make a desktop shortcut something like D:\\autorun.exe.

I am having the same problem and when I try the exe it gives me an error saying The application has failed to start because its side by side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail. Oh and I have tested this out and I can play the game fine if I don't patch but as soon as I patch boom, I continue to get the error.

Getting the same error when running the daorigins.exe from the bin_ship. This problem only started after patching.
Any thoughts?

A side by side configuration message is an error out of C++, so it might be a bug with the patch if it's only just started after patching. Or, you can always try and install the VC++ redistributable package again from the Microsoft website.

My error is a little different when running the daorigins.exe, it reports the following:
---------------------------
D:\\Games\\Dragon Age\\bin_ship\\daorigins.exe
---------------------------
D:\\Games\\Dragon Age\\bin_ship\\daorigins.exe
This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
---------------------------
D:\\Games\\Dragon Age\\bin_ship\\daorigins.exe
---------------------------
D:\\Games\\Dragon Age\\bin_ship\\daorigins.exe
This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

VC++ redistributable package does not fix. copying afore metioned ddl files off cd to install directory does not work either. So redic. game was running perfect...until the damn patch. thats what we get for being proactive:(. this needs major bump and some admin support to fix pronto!

I'd backup your save files, then re-install the game. I don't know if there's a way to remove only the patch or not, but re-installing then just pasting your save files back into the same place usually works.

installing the corrct Visual C++ Runtime ATL update WILL fix this. There's serveral threads on it. Make sure to install the x86 version, regardless if you're running 64-bit or not.
