I cannot wrap my head around this.
I've been playing ME2, and what I just cannot understand is why the bullets move so slow. This just doesn't make any sense. Bullets in the ME universe have naturally escalated from marble sized rounds propelled at sonic velocities in order to damage a target to grain sized bullets fired at ridiculously high velocities that would be unachievable without the advent of element zero and the mitigation of much of this thanks to the mass effect fields encapsuling the rounds. This would naturally mean that bullets would be required to near instantly hit a target in order to deal damage, a grain-sized bullet fired at the same velocitiy of a 9mm bullet might hope to sting someone.
I can understand why this was implemented, I suppose. To be more shooter-like and have you require to 'lead' targets, and maybe I might of accepted it if BioWare even bothered to address it, but it's not even acknowledged. Is galactic technology cyclic? Will the humans, turians and asari start firing space muskets at each other?
I really enjoyed ME2, but this blatant disregard of established lore is insulting.

True, the bullets should be hitscan (or really frelling fast), but I think they just did it for balance/challenge.

You know what would be fun? Lasguns. Angry flashlights ftw.

Well, when Shepard was sleeping... bullets were installed with small eezo cores that... uh... made the bullet stronger, except slowed it down... somehow. Basically a Wizard the Mass Effect Did It.

It's just one of the things you accept about ME2.

Oh thank the maker, I was beginning to think that no one else would notice. What's next loading the ammunition into the muzzle and using black powder to propel it.

If the RPG purists have their way, Shepard will be using swords and crossbows next time.

For serious though. The bullets aren't actually subsonic. It's just artistic license.

WTF, the bullets do hit basically instantly. Have you ever used a sniper rifle?

You can actually see the health bars move before the tracer round finishes flying.

It's just something to give the shooting aspect of the game some challenge and probably to ease players accustomed to bullet travel into the game, or it'll be too easy.

It's like saying, "Why doesn't Shepard bring his entire 12-man commando team down to take out the mercenary base? What are the rest doing on the Normandy? Watching the futuristic equivalent of youtube on the extranet?"

yes they do go too slow, yes the sniper rifle fires a projectile at a higher velocity than say a hand cannon, and yes I think it's stupid to go through all the trouble of creating all that background content and saying it means something and then negate it with bullets that fly as fast as a damn stone age bow shooting an arrow.

The slow moving bullets allow people to feel more "Pew Pew Powah!" at their stupid fingertips.
What's wrong with all the extra flash, fluff, and cosmetic garbage?

I would say a hitscan method would let people feel more power... You point at something, press shoot and it instantly hits it. Projectile physics can give more satisfaction though when you grasp the feel for them.

Speaking of "pew pew pew", I preferred the ME1 gun sound effects over the little pissant "pew pew" noises.

The thought of Samara walking in on Grunt watching krogan porn is hilarious and amuses me to no end. He is an adolescent, after all. Maybe they can have an awkward conversation about the birds and the bees afterwards, too.

Samara: Well... Grunt. You see, sometimes a boy krogan likes a girl krogan a whole whole lot, and...

This is true for me. I really can't stand slow moving bullets for some reason. I hated the fat slow pellets that were in Army of Two and now ME2 has slow moving mini-laser fire.

If they want a game with weapon fire people can see. Just make a damn water gun game.

I doubt anyone actually has bothered to actually compare me2 bullet speeds with modern day tracer rounds or bullet speeds.

For my two cents since i find it strange this is a topic......they are going above the speed 700mph

What makes me mad is if your aim is good the damage is instantaneous, however if you miss the bullet goes the speed of a chevy in 3rd gear
