If ME2 had been planned beforehand it would seamlessly connect to Mass Effect 1. Instead the game feels more like a reboot.

Honestly that's what it feels like. A lot of the characters in ME2 seemed like they were designed to eclipse (in a bad way) the ME1 characters. And look at how Kaidan/Ash was handled.
