Forget full body motion games.. developers of the future will just embed games into real life. Like, in order to have breakfast I have to fight computer generated ninjas on my way to the table.

Now if God would just give us the source code to real life...

This is just the beta and the apocolypse is actually him wiping the harddrives for the real V1.0 release!!

So 2012 is the full version release date? Sweet! I hope i can keep my beta character.

Ya know what. This brings up another problem I have. People act like beta testing is like a free demo.  Like it is there for them to test out a game to see if they like it or not or to act like they are special "omg I am in the demo for X game"
You actually have a job to do.
A friend was doing a beta test for Bad Company and I loved hearing how all the people that never reported anything or filled out the questinares did not get their bonus's for being a beta tester.

P.S.
When the reboot starts I would like to reroll. I would like to play a trustfund child.

Dearlord no. I said child not self absorbed troll.

I said it because I would just like to have the time and resources to go to all the places and see all the things I always wanted to.

Why not? Thats my plan...

While I was out for a walk I thought of another thing that I have noticed over the years and that is it seems the "suits" are getting more and more involved in the creation process.  It is not a 100% thing but I think we see it sometimes when game X does some great thing that is praised so the next year we see many games trying to stuff that into their new game.
Or that just tacking on things one succesfull game did will make theirs succesfull.  Like it is some secret forumula for success.
I kind of equate it to a banker or buisnessman telling a artist how to paint, a singer how to sing, or a pilot how to fly.

Haha, you think about forum threads when you go on walks?

So do I :(

I do not go out specifcally to think about forum threads when walking my dog but it just kinda popped in there. Like "oh I need to post this thought when I get home"
Then again my thoughts are like the few dreams I have. I could completely forget about it in 2 minutes after it happened.

That's why I carry around a voice recorder with me now. I have a story-writing and music mixing hobby so it helps me retain those fleeting moments of genius :P

Activision Blizzard.

That's what's wrong with games today. Also, Nintendo.

Multiplayer games have more lasting appeal. I very rarely play through single-player games more than once, and bigger games I may not even finish. A multiplayer game that I can put in for a half hour is going to appeal to me more than some monolithic single-player experience.

No, that was just what was wrong with Warhammer online.

I understand Activision, but what has Nintendo done wrong?  They have some of, if not the best first party games on any console.  There is a lot of shovelware on the Wii, but those are 3rd party games made by companies like Activision.

Because Nintendo milk franchises for everything they're worth and rarely put anything really, really original out?

To put it simply it is online gameing.  Every game nowadays has to have some kind of online play or people lose their minds.  For anyone that was around these boards before DAO came out there were always posts from people crying that there was no online in the game.  Even now if you look around the boards people will talk about how they want a DAO MMO.  I know I might be getting old at 27 but what happend one player games?  If developers would just scratch adding online play to EVERY game and focuse on the actual game they would be so much better!

Bah end of rant.  Thanks for reading.

I'm going to take a different viewpoint. I'm not even sure if I'm agreeing or disagreeing with you here but we'll see.

I actually have noticed that the multiplayer aspect in gaming has been degrading, not improving. Perhaps it is the "online" aspect of it causing the mess. What I mean is that most games these days don't have the ability to play splitscreen or otherwise locally with other humans. I'm noticing that the switch to "online" gaming is eroding away my time honored traditions of having a friend come over (yes, a real human being not a voice in an earpiece) and play some games with me.

So I'm not sure if single player is really suffering because of multiplayer (considering there are plenty of good games that can be played both ways, pun intended, as mentioned before) but more like all quality is suffering because of some other yet undetermined factor. Or perhaps it is determined. The Activision factor shall we call it for lack of a better phrase?

Yep. But is Nintendo really to blame or their easily entertained fanbase? Only idiots would be happy playing the same Pokemon game since Red/Blue, right?

Nintendo tried to pull that crap off with Animal Crossing too. Wild World was a port with a different camera and City Folk was a port with a boring new area tacked in. After City Folk, I haven't bought a single game for my Wii. Nintendo blows.

No, I don't think Nintendo are to blame... to a point. At the end of the day, they're the ones who put the Yen/Dollars/Whatever down for the next game in a series.

I think Metroid and Zelda have gotten lucky so far with the Wii. There's 2 Zelda games I'm aware of: One is a GameCube port (Twilight Princess) and the other is a gimmick game (Crossbow Training). Metroid, to the best of my knowledge, has just gotten the rehash of the Prime trilogy and that new one that's coming out.

But it's their heavy hitters like Mario that are really where my concern lies. I played Mario Kart Wii at someone's house and it was no different to any other Mario Kart game, Super Mario Galaxy looks like Super Mario Sunshine on acid (not played it, so my thoughts end there). They've released Mario Kart, Super Mario Galaxy, New Super Mario Bros and there's SMG 2 on the way. The DS has got Super Mario DS or something, the one which is a rehash of the Mario 64 (a game I loved) and then about another thousand Mario titles.

The Wii is in danger of becoming a Nintendo-centric system and I think that will not be good for them. The Sonic games aren't hitting hard (they're hitting too fast and to frequently from what I can tell) and there's really no third party killer series out for it that I can think of.

Not to mention their DS market model. DS Phat > DS Lite > DSi > DSi XL > 3DS. I'm sure I've missed one (have I?). They announced the 3DS around the time of the DSi XL and I don't see the need for them to do so.

They've got a market, and if they're not careful they're going to saturate it as they bleed it dry.

See alot of people hit it on the head. Games like WoW or CoD Modern Warfare are fine.  Even though CoD has a single player mode we all know those games are made to be online games.  Thats fine with me.  But why did Uncharted 2 need multiplayer?  Why did Biowshock 2 need multiplayer?  Why did Fable 2 need multiplayer?  If you are makeing a game that is ment to be played single player just do that.  God knows Fable 2 could have used those extra people working on bugs and things rather than a horrid co-op.

Then here is another thing I HATE about games today.  A manditory co-op mode.  Like the new Splinter Cell.  The Co-Op mode has story and things that someone like me might really be into.  But I would never know since I wouldn't do it.  (I have not played it this game yet though so if I am wrong and there is some way to do that single player you still get my point,)

Also I don't like unlocking things for the normal game online.  Like in Final Fantacy Tactics on the PSP.  They give you a new unit tipe that you can only get gear for online.

Damng I am just full of rant as of late...

P.S.  Dose 27 really make me an old gamer? heh

I thought their marketing strategies lately have been bottom of the barrel as well. but then I looked up their stock value. Since the beginning of 2010, their stocks have jumped up quite a bit. That's when I figured out it's the buyers to blame, not Nintendo. They're gonna keep doing what makes them money and if half-assed ports make them money, that's what they're going to make.

P.S. Super Mario Galaxy was pretty good, but has the same problem all Mario games since Sunshine have: a disappointing, pathetic final boss fight.

P.P.S. Why all the co-op hate? You guys must have SOMEONE who would like to game with you. The only problem I see is that it's hard to have a friend commit to the same play times as you so a drop in/drop out kind of co-op is always the best kind.

Well there is that balance. Why fix something when its not broken? Do not innovate or try to remake the wheel for the sake of innovating or remaking that wheel. Do it because it makes sense. Do it because it can fit and add to the game.

It may not be the best but compare Mario Platforming and Final Fantasy. Mario platforming has stayed essentially on the same path. Doing the same things but adding some stuff along the path to keep it a little fresh but I still have fun with them.

Final Fantasy seems to try and reinvent itself each and every time. While some good has come from it. It has also lost most of what (some around here would call oldtimers) found great and fun in the series.

There are those things to be praised and those things to dismiss. Like most else in life. Nintendo can make some greatly fun games. Sometimes they crash and burn.

Maybe I have that soft spot for those at Nintendo. They always seem to be the odd person out. While it was sega and sony battling Nintendo carved out their own marketshare and did great with it. Same goes for this age of Sony vs. Microsoft. Look at how those two companies are now frantically trying to get into the motion controll market. Hey its not great but it has its place. Motion controll is like any other plateform there are some hits and there are many more misses. Many more because it was a rather new and pretty untested area.

I am a bit biased because I do LOVE ME SOME WII BOWLING!!!!

@jasonpogo:

The splinter cell conviction coop is alright.

It has a story but it is completely independant so those who cant find anyone else to play with them arent missing out. It is great for people like me an my brother who play both independantly and together

Co-op is objectively more enjoyable than single-player. objectively.
