It has been ages since I have watched anime. I'm not that big anime geek, but occasionally I get spikes where I watch a lot of different anime, and then it calms down for couple of years where I watch none. These get honorable mentions:

Rurouni Kenshin OVA1. (aka Reminiscence). Kenshin/Samurai X TV serie is complete garbage IMHO, but the movie of Kenshins origins is one of the best anime movies EVER. Absolutely my favourite.

Elfen Lied. A slightly bothed up masterpiece potential, but still awesome. Story and characters are really good, and how this plays with your emotions is fantastic. Its obvious that it was shortened, due to lack of budget or whatever, and ending pisses me off, but I still love it.

Gundam Seed. Agan I love this because of the characters. Yes they seem so annoyingly emo at first, but the character developement is surprisingly strong. Action is very repetive though, with same scenes used over and over. Too bad Destiny butchered this franchise, and there is little hope for continuation.

Gundam 00. Less emo than Seed. Propably best mecha action scenes ever, mindblowingly well detailed. Suffers from bad bigger-and-bigger-doomsday-laser-syndrome that gets worse as serie continues, but its still very very good.

Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien. I am actually surprised that I like this anime. Its very dramatic soap opera, not very manly I guess. But its so good soap opera, transforming from very teeny overly sweet lovestory to very sad and dark when everything gets messed up after 3rd episode. Its so well written that I just have to love it, no matter how girly it might seem.

Death Note. I think everyone knows this serie already. Takes a nose-dive after L dies, serie should have ended there IMHO. But up to that point its top notch quality anime with cat-mouse play that constantly kept me on my toes. And a bonus points from managing to make writing a book so dramatic and exciting looking. :D

Evangelion. A first anime serie I ever saw as a teenager, and I was hooked.

Ninja Scroll movie. A first anime EVER I saw, as a preteen. Yes, I saw this uncutted as a kid with hands being torn apart and all. Being a huge ninja/samurai fan and all back then this movie was fricking AWESOME!!!! And it still is. Too bad TV serie is bad, but movie is worth watching by any anime fan, its pure quality.

I used to leave on Adult Swim saturday nights and watch whatever anime they showed while I used the computer. Sadly, the CN channel on my TV is broken (while none of the other channels are affected).

I just read weekly manga on fridays on MangaOne.

I really enjoyed Cowboy Bebop's use of music to enhance mood. It is one of the few anime I've watched where I've wanted to get the soundtrack. Great story and artistic style, and I'm really partial to sci-fi.

Planetes was much harder sci-fi, but no less enjoyable than Cowboy Bebop.

I am a Ghost in the Shell fan, so Stand Alone Complex was pretty awesome, especially with the Tachikoma Days shorts appended to each episode which were not only funny, but helped to explain some of the concepts related to artificial intelligence introduced in the storyline.

Genshiken should be required viewing material for any anime geek.

Last Exile = awesome-tastic. That is all.

I don't watch Anime nearly as much as I used to. What I have now is only shows I loved before I turned Anime on it's tail.

My favorites are Hellsing and Case Closed. I watch Case Closed every single day.

There are any number of shows that I could review for pages. I will simply say that Kara no Kyoukai is the epitome of great anime.

I WILL DESTROY YOU!

No, I won't. Everyone's got their own tastes, even if they are misguided and TOTALLY, COMPLETELY WRONG! :P I kid, I kid.

I'm also a huge fan of Satoshi Kon's work. He's like the Terry Gilliam of anime, with weird, messed-up dreamscape-like concepts in his stuff. Don't believe me? Check out Paprika or Millennium Actress. Or, for something way more disturbing, Perfect Blue.

I dislike dubbed anime. I prefer watching it subtitled. North American dubbing is usually contrived and silly.

But then, I've been watching subtitled movies all my life.

I agree and that is about the limit of my anime knowledge. I guess I will throw Macross in there since it is something I grew up with.

Would Thundercats count as anime?

English dubbing can be done well. The problem is that even when it's done well, it changes the tone and flow of a lot of the dialog, so you can sometimes get noticeably different feels from the shows. Lots of english dubs are just plain awful, but with the increasing popularity of anime in the west, we're seeing the quality steadily increase.

Anime movies would have been pretty easy... but for shows... there are quite a lot that I enjoy and to choose one would be difficult. So: One Piece, Slayers, Naruto, Inu Yasha, Cowboy Bebop, Hellsing, Wolf's Rain, Samurai Champloo. Gunsmith Cats is too short for being called a "show", X and Utena were drawn well. ... I nearly forgot Detective Conan. Depends on my mood which one I like best at a certain moment.

I'm relying on animes that are shown on TV now because I stopped buying series a long time ago. But among them... Evangelion was pretty deep on the emotional side. ("disturbing" really is a fitting word for Perfect Blue)

Same here. I was watching it once upon a time, but couldn't keep up with the episode release dates.
