Best animes for me were Cowboy Bebop, Blue Seed, Samurai Shamploo and Escaflowne.

And even being a movie (Not a series) i think AKIRA deserves a mention here :)

Evangelion, by far. And Dragonball, but only the first series, not Dragonball Z.

I'm not much of an anime viewer nowadays. I'll stop to peek at a series now and then if it has a great reputation, but that's it.

My favorites are probably Vampire Hunter D, Bubblegum Crisis, Seriel Experiments Lain, 3x3 Eyes, Outlaw Star, and Ghost in the Shell (movie, I never saw Stand Alone Complex.) I'm also not ashamed to admit Yu Yu Hakusho was a guilty pleasure of mine back in the 90s. :P Every once in awhile a shonen series grabs me, even though most of them are terrible and formulaic. That said, I'm more of a manga reader. Longer stories rarely see completion in anime form or are often altered in ways I dislike. At times those alterations can be drastic and irksome. The only prematurely ended manga series I enjoyed was X. I'm *still* bitter about that, actually. Clamp has told some of my favorite stories across the entire manga/anime/western comic spectrum.

I could never get into Cowboy Bebop or Samurai Champloo. Berserk is okay but series like that and Gantz get so twisted and creepy at times I can't bear them. Melancholy is good. Stories that make me feel misanthropic are bad. :?

I rarely watch anime nowadays, and avoid whatever Adult Swim shows nowadays like Bleach.

The shows that I recall nostalgically though are FLCL, Last Exile, Cowboy Bebop, Wolf's Rain, RahXephon, Ghost in the Shell, Jin-Roh, Twelve Kingdoms, Scrapped Princess, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Golden Boy, and Grave of the Fireflies.

I'm also a huge fan of Satoshi Kon's work. He's like the Terry Gilliam of anime, with weird, messed-up dreamscape-like concepts in his stuff. Don't believe me? Check out Paprika or Millennium Actress. Or, for something way more disturbing, Perfect Blue.

Satoshi Kon is awesome. I loved Millenium Actress and Tokyo Godfathers.

What's wrong with Shoujo? I like Shoujo.

I couldn't stand Fushigi Yuugi though. Heroine was annoying.

I'm just generally not a fan of romance material is all. Male testosterone and toughness and all that.... :P

I'm a Revolutionary Girl Utena fangirl. It's fantastically quirky. Recently I watched most of Maria-sama ga miteru (Marimite; Maria Watches Over Us) set in a Catholic(!) girl school, the first arch of the ballet fairy tale Princess Tutu and the whole Fullmetal Alchemist series (sans the movie) and liked all of them a lot. Currently I'm in the middle of Le Chevalier D'Eon, Death Note, the first season of Higurashi - When They Cry, Last Exile and Paranoia Agent, all good. (And yes, I have trouble concentrating on one series at the time.) All in all my taste runs a bit strange, I suppose - I prefer my anime smart, strange and dark. Or Marimite ;D

Yes, normally I would hate this kind of anime. But for some reason this one sucked me in. I dunno, I just like it.
