Hey guys how should I build my engineer? What is better Cyro blast or the fire one? Should I max out AI hacking and combat drones? Would love some feedback for the perfect engineer build Thank you!

After horizon you could rebuild your build often enough for specific situations. So,for talis recruting mission you should max ai-hacking.One point in cyro gives you enough time against enemies like krogan or geth hunters when there defenses ares stripped.

I just finished an Engineer playthrough on Insanity, and I would recommend both full Cryo Blast and the AOE Incinerate. These two make a great combination against enemies with Armor only, such as Husks. AOE Incinerate to strip the armor, followed by Mordin's fully upgraded Cryo Blast work like a charm - they made Husk-heavy levels quite manageable.

I preferred Attack Drone to explosive, as the Attack drone works against pretty much everything, and lasts quite a long time. As Gatsby pointed out in one of his videos, Explosive drone is good for situations where the drones are dying quickly. I encountered few of those situations, even on Insanity mode.

Edit:  The post above is correct.  AI Hacking is a great situational skill.  For mech or Geth heavy levels, I respeced to max AI hacking while eliminating Incinerate, which is not as useful against mechs.  I used Overload to remove shields, followed by AI hacking or Cryo.

This really depends greatly on your own play style for whats a good build.
I like to play my engineer very aggressively so for me Explosive Drone, Cyro, & bonus AP/Warp ammo power were great.
However lots of people prefer to play Engineer as a very powerful CC build so Attack Drone, AI Hack & bonus power Dominate works really well to for those with prefer to hang back & control the battlefield.

I actually went only 1 point in Incinerate for the health regan stop.

My build had area overload for shields and weapon overheat and the AOE cryo blast.

I took explosive drone as I went more aggresive in my playstyle

I took AP ammo as my bonus and went squad version to help offset the loss of incinerate.

Overall my favorite build and playthrough

I should add that I tend to play the engineer as the crowd control expert, using Grunt or Zaeed as the damage dealers, depending on whether I want incendiary ammo or disruptor ammo - I also respec for Geth or mech missions by eliminating Incinerate, and using AI Hack instead.

The Engineer is a really flexible class. I think the powers you like to use should be maxed for your general build.

Engineers really benefit from constant respec's depending on the mission you're going to,

Haven't finished my insanity run yet but I'm wrapping up before IFF at lvl 27, so I think I could give you some general pointers from my own limited experience as well  It's worked for me so far.

I play my engineer rather defensively, as she's kinda squishy, especially in close quarters you can be at a hell of a disadvantage. However if you place your squadmates well and use them properly, chances are you won't be in that situation much. A Viper sniper rifle complements my playstyle well.

I highly recommend a point in dominate. Especially in the beginning and a few missions past Horizon, this ability really saved my butt... It's very useful and fun. Though maybe flash bang grenade is a better option now - but I just love dominate too much to change it!

It's a good idea to quickly max out the drone and passive. I tend to use the "mechanic" specialization, and usually attack drone - as I like it being able to hit all forms of defense. Though in swarmy missions like IFF with husks, explosive is probably a better option.

I find that all of the engineer's abilities are useful. In my opinion, you should have at least one point in every ability most of the times (except for situations like collector missions where AI hacking for example is useless).
Later on, the engineer is quite forgiving with a couple of "misplaced points" (i.e. I've never bothered to spec out of my 1 point in AI hacking and have done well so far, but I will do so before suicide mission), but in the beginning spread out abilities can be tough.
I think we benefit a lot from respecs... If you want to squeeze the most out of the class, don't play like me, and respec often.

There's a number of ways you could play... You could be a defense stripper, a crowd controller, a bit of both, an anti-organics specialist, an anti-synthetics specialist... Your only weakness is barriers - but what are squadmates for?

Whatever you do, max out the drone. A well-placed drone can make a world of difference. And don't forget to choose your squadmates very carefully depending on the mission, place them well, and take full advantage of their abilities.

Hope I helped!
