So, I have found myself in the situation of not being able to decide between the soldier and the vanguard. I have played them both and I greatly loved them both but i just cant decide right now. Care to sell me on one of them? I would play a Revenant Soldier or a Vanguard with Reave btw.

Thanks for the opinions

To be honest it depends on how you like fighting me personally i like shooting at them with a lot fire power and to have access to all the guns on the game (except for the SMG) and accuracy and have in my opinon more of a gritty and real fight Solider

Me personally solider everytime and i feel you can do more damage with guns than biotics. For example I can give harbringer in 15 seconds with my assault rifle.

Also you have access to more the ammo powers that helps with all your squad if you pick the squad power for the ammo.

Also your character looks cooler having a back full of guns instead of having space where an assault rifle should be.

Also it enables you to be perfect for any situation if your a solider you can do close combat, far distance, or inbetween with no issues.

Also if you miss biotics I say have a team mate with you that has biotics e.g. Jack or Samara or even Jacob and Miranda then you have the fire power to go with the biotics

If you want to go solo against 6 people and survive without cover, take the Vanguard.

Id played as a solider in my first playthrough of me1 and then me2 i really loved the choice of weapons , the main firepower was the assault rifle but then after completing me2 i decided to give other classes a try so i could try out the biotics

But i'd say vanguard as this class combines close-quarter firepower & biotic's.

The ability to slow down time whenever you want.

Access to all standard Ammo powers.

Access to all weapons.

Ability to choose any weapon Specialization.

A Team player (Depending on your set up)

Shoot first, shoot some more, maybe ask a question, then shoot some more from any distance.

Being a badass Super Commando, I know where my money is.

Soldier is my favorite class and it varies greatly depending on the way you build your soldier.

You can take the Revenant and play fairly aggressively by closing to medium close range and mowing everything down with a massive machine gun, while using your Viper or Mantis Sniper rifle to pick off hard to reach targets. If you go that route its best to focus on making your soldier extra tough by choosing the shocktrooper and hardened adrenaline rush specializations.

Or you can use my preferred build and use the magnificent accuracy of the Widow and Vindicator to lay down headshots like a master while maximizing damage per shot with the Commando and Heightened adrenaline rush specializations (normal or hardened adrenaline rush gives you a +100% weapon damage bonus, while heightened gives you +140%). In the hands of a soldier the Vindicator is amazing since the slowdown from adrenaline rush lets you rapidly lay down headshots on multiple targets with near 100% accuracy in a way that no other class can match. While the Widow with heightened adrenaline rush can lay down a ridiculous amount of damage in a single shot from a mile away.

If you prefer to get up close and personal with your shotgun then the Vanguard is definitely the way to go. The Vanguard's charge ability is a blast to use and makes the Vanguard easily the best class with a shotgun since charge lets you rapidly close in to point blank range. Furthermore if you have the Kasumi DLC (its great if you don't have it) you can equip your Vanguard with the Locust SMG which gives you an SMG with accuracy and damage on par with an assault rifle. The Locust can't touch the raw damage of the Revenant; but is actually a better choice then the Vindicator for any class other than Soldiers since you can't score as many headshots with the Vindicator if you can't use the soldiers Adrenaline Rush bullet time.

In summary, if you like using a wide variety of guns, sniping with a beast of a sniper rifle, being a damned surgeon with the Vindicator or mowing everything down with the massive Revenant machine gun then go soldier. If you prefer up close and personal combat with your shotgun then take the Vanguard.

On insanity, I can take him down in about 7 seconds from my perspective or 3.5 seconds from his (accounting for the 70% slowdown from heightened adrenaline rush).   Fire up adrenaline rush and emptying headshots into him through adrenaline rush will take down his barriers and a good chunk of his armor, at which point I can polish him off with 2 or 3 headshots from the Vindicator or 1 shot from my Widow or Eviscerator.

If you are going to let Reave be your deciding choice for playing a Vanguard... don't bother. It's a bonus power, and that means your Revenant Soldier could also have it. Either you feel the urge to biotic charge or you don't.

7 seconds real time is actually 2.1 seconds game time with 70% time dilation. Adrenaline rush is so ridiculous...

If you see a boss enemy, and don't immediately feel the overpowering desire to jam your shotgun barrel down their esophagus, then go soldier.

Vanguard is when your elbow is more fatal than a slug traveling at relativistic speeds.

Yeah; but adrenaline rush lasts 5 seconds so the first five seconds with 70% time dilation is really only 1.5 seconds; but the last 2 seconds are in normal time.  Adrenaline Rush is awesome though and due to the +100% or +140% weapon damage bonus, I'd say its probably the most powerful ability in the game with the Vanguard charge coming in second simply because it can get you killed.

On Veteran you can take down the Harbringer with the Vindicator solo during a single adrenaline rush; but on insanity you can't quite pull it off.  Its definitely possible to take him out during a single Adrenaline Rush if you soften him up a little first by having Miranda or Thane hit him with Warp or by having Samara hit him with Reave.

Generally, I pick off his reinforcements first so that he can't possess them then hit him with Warp or Reave before I target him for a quick kill.  At this point I've gotten good enough that he doesn't give me much trouble even on insanity.

HELPFUL HINT:
Make sure to dodge his black colored biotic attack which forces you out of cover and leaves you stunned by either leaving cover and strafing to to the side or by moving side to side in cover if you have enough cover to do so.

Soldier. Not because it's particularly better but because I found the Vanguard to be kinda goofy. It's fun as hell though.

My first character was a soldier, and I found it a bit too vanilla for my tastes. All the other classes shoot things, it's just that the soldier is better at it. Adrenaline rush is fun, but it just can't compare to a biotic charge, sneaking around cloaked, pet drones, or lobbing singularities.

I feel that soldier gives you more variety than the Vanguard. You can play Rambo or a stealthy sniper. Your choice. With the Vanguard, Rambo is pretty much your only choice.

Good point, but adrenaline rush only lasts 4 seconds on insanity since all power durations are cut by 20%.

When you're out of cover his normal fireball is more dangerous than the glowing ball of of doom, because you can't avoid it by strafing (unless you're in rush) and it stuns you if your shields are down. Harbinger isn't a big deal even on insanity NG+ unless I screw up and let him catch me in a bad position. Even then rushing up and unloading the Rev point blank into his ugly, glowing face works more often than not.

This.  I Like the  aggressive playstyle the Vanguard encourages, but biotic charge, frankly, looks silly.  The whole DB-Z charge animation rubs me the wrong way.  It doesn't fit in the ME universe.   Until that point biotics were, well not subtle, but appropriate that the way they looked and acted were somewaht consistent with the way they worked.  Charge just doesn't fit.

Also, I think it's a bit of a cop out game design-wise to have an ability (charge) that's there specifically to compensate for the artificially crippled range of the shotguns.  It would be better just to give shotguns better range in the first place so you don't have to be point blank to use them effectively.

It just happens that Shepard memorized the triggering of his Charge biotic skill into a groovy "get ready here I come!" coreography. Nothing we can do about it :P

Soldier if you're more into typical shooter playstyle. Vanguard if you like biotic charge. Oh and I love charging unprotected, pulled ymirs... Just watching them fly gives me warm fuzzy feelings inside!

I only ever use soldier class.

I have tried other classes on Mass Effect, but soldier seems to most realistic for me. Don't get me wrong though, on the original Mass Effect I used to love having throw or lift biotics after unlocking the correct achievements for my next soldier playthrough.

Plus I prefer the gun fight side of things, rather than the Jedi mind trick stuff.

Each to there own of course. But soldier class is the one for me.

All weapons are available, aside from the SMG's for some reason. But everything else is there and there super groovy.

Plus with added Geth shield power I am pretty unstopable now.

Too true my bretheren. If you want an ability that allows the game to play itself for you, hit up a Soldier. If you want aggressive in-your-face fighting, hit up a Vanguard.
