I love the recent Battlefields, especially '43, for allowing you to destroy pretty much anything that isn't a bunker.

Like Kaiser said, the Battlefield games, my fav being the newest Bad Company 2, have some of the best destructible environments, to me. Although, at least to my eyes, there isn't any ground deformation from things like explosions, the rest of the objects/buildings are all destructible.

I liked The Force Unleashed destructible environment. Too bad the game was such a crappy port to PC.

Company Of heroes is pretty cool when it comes to destructible environments.

The game I've played most that had a destructible environment was the first Red Faction that came out. However, Force Unleashed beats everything hands down.

Not sure if this is what you're asking about, but I have had great fun with the exploding barrels in Half-Life 2...exploding them with a bullet or chucking one at a group of zombies with the gravity gun will put a spring in your step.

An honorable mention for me is Stranglehold. You don't so much blow apart buildings, but pretty much anything in a room is destroyed in the epic gun fights.

The PC version of BC2 has craters and such in the ground if you are purposefully shooting it.  It's fairly minor but it's there.  It might not be on the console versions.

You obviously haven't played Red Faction: Guerrilla.

I'm quite certain the console version of '43 also has this, so I assume BC2 does as well.

Aren't the destructible environments in Bad Company 2 pre-baked?

Bad Company 2... if some sniper is giving you trouble shoot a rocket at him- not only will you get him, you also leave a smoking hole in the wall!

The closest game you can do that in is Sim Earth

It's a tie between Red Faction 1 and Red Faction Guerrilla.

Guerrilla has better building destruction but it lacks the terrain destruction you could do in RF1.

Making giant tunnel systems with rocket launchers in RF1 was awesome!
