According to Amazon where they're available for preorder, they're about $24/each. I don't collect such things but I'm guessing that isn't the price range for something that's "upper scale" collector quality. Certainly a lot of the WoW figures Amazon has are much more than that.

i pre ordered mine at my comic shop the set alone i payed 80 bucks

Been waiting a long time for these and can't help but look at them and think...

What the hell were they thinking. They look like those cheap imitation figures you get from those shady back shops in dark market alleys.

Oh well, maybe the second series will be better.

i order dc direct figs and i will say they make the best detailed figures. other than me i collect batman and green lantern and trust me bro if a toy maker like mattel produced me figs they would be ugly as sin. and dont forget those can indeed be prototypes with a very plain paint job

It's not the paint job, it's the shape of the models themselves and their poses.

I have a reasonable selection of collectible figures from various sources, and they are all better than these.

The bodies look contorted and disproportionate, Grunt is the only one who l looks Ok. I do hope these are prototypes otherwise, I'll give them a miss, and that does indeed hurt me more than the company.

Fingers crossed.  We'll see in a few months time.  But holding off on the pre-order just at the moment.

Grunt and Thane look OK, but Shep and Tali look quite bad. DAO ones looked all much better.

Here's what Hot Toys (out of Hong Kong) did with the Resident Evil 5 license.

I can't believe BioWare went with DC Direct for their figures, what a mistake that was. What's next, are they going to get Uwe Boll to direct the Mass Effect movie? Seriously, what are they thinking?

Seriously, this is how action figures should look.

It's partially the camera angle, I admit.  Someone was breathing down my neck while I was on the floor trying to snap these pics and that was the only angle I could get without them being in the glass reflection, LoL.

But even so, her body is still irks me the most, proportion-wise.  In person it wasn't much better.  I'll probably still end up getting her though because there's nothing else of her.

Compared to those from DC, the later look like some weak ass parodies of the actual model.

Cheers!

I think BioWare mistakes their fans with "five-year-old's" who wanna play with those figures, unlike actual people who want to collect them.

I would imagine Hot Toys was out of the question because of the price of their figures. They are wonderful, but even I hesitate to pay $100+ for them.

Eep.. I was planning on pre-ordering these, but I am having second thoughts now. As a past poster said, Thane looks like Chun-Li with those thighs. Tali looks like she has some sort of gauntlet on, or something, not an omni-tool. Grunt looks... ok, but his coloring and 'face ridges' could be improved upon. Lasty, Shepard looks like a pedo.

That, and with their painting, it looks like an employee let their three year old alone with them and some cans of neon paint.

They probably did not go with Hot Toys because those are really, really, really high-end figures. Note how the joints are not visible; that's because they actually have a skin. Depending on their popularity, each one is going to ream your wallet to the tune of $160. I know because I wanted that Appleseed one so baaaaad.

Well. now, it all depends on what you're looking for, a toy or a collectable, women tend to spend tons of cash on planters, vases and all those cheesy "make-your-home-warmer" stuff, guys like the more cooler stuff like lythos' and collectables, i think you can figure which one of those are cool and which suck... :D.

I wouldn't mind paying up to 100 if it actually looked good, rather than that cheap plastic crap i'm seeing, filling a
personal window display with them... i can't even imagine how awesome would they looked if made by Hot Toys, have you seen the Batmobile?

Imagine if they made a scale model Normandy SR 2 with that kind of detail... *goes drooling in a corner*

Take care;)

Oh, I'm fully aware of the quality Hot Toys puts out. I have their Appleseed figures myself; well worth the price. But think of it from the average person's standpoint, someone who might only get a figure once in a blue moon because it's from something they really love. Most people aren't going to be willing to pay such high price tags if they aren't big collectors. Like I said, even I kind of hesitate putting down more than 70-80 for one thing, and I'm not exactly the best at restraining myself when it comes to figures.

It just wouldn't make that much sense to put out sets of extremely high quality toys when the market for them isn't all that large. Now, something along the line of NECA's BioShock figures (yes, I know I mentioned them already; I love them to death) at about $20 a piece would be much more feasible, and still very good quality. And with that lower price more people would certainly consider buying them, thereby justifying making them in the first place.

Hot Toys are good, but they become terribly expensive, and that might put a damper on the will to purchase for many.

While at it: Does anyone know of a good Gordon Freeman out there?

Well I would think that since this game is advertised for 17+ they would put more detail. Quality would encourage more buys, not the price. I am not usually a collector but I own almost everything Mass Effect related cause I love the universe but I think i'm going to pass on these, I might get a Kasumi or Jack one if they are decent looking though.
