So, been playing an Adept for a bit now and it's great fun, BUT..
My Singularity only seems to last 3-4 seconds, I have Wide Singularity, +15% power duration from class passive, and I'm playing on Insanity.
So what gives? The description says it should last 30 seconds, anyone know why it's only lasting 3-4?
About Singularity..

You can only create one singularity at a time if you try to create another the first one is destroyed

Well, that's not the problem, I only cast one, yet it still dissappears after 3-4 seconds.

Singularity has a limit of how many enemies it can capture before evaporating. Maybe you reached that limit... Plus, I think that it lasts less when it captures defended enemies bacause it essentially "recaptures" them, or something...

I've had that problem, but not to that extent. Mine lasts for 10-15 seconds with Heavy Singularity (supposed to be 45 seconds), but I'm currently playing on Hardcore. No solution at the moment.

Ahh, that would make sense, well that makes it a far less appealing power, for me at least.Heart Collector wrote...

I've not extensively played Adept, but from what I've seen Singularity's greatest use is to stunlock enemies. When a power is used on a defended enemy, they stagger for a second. Since Singularity continuously tries to capture that enemy, it continues to stagger them, rendering that enemy helpless and ineffective while Singularity lasts.
I was very impressed to see some vids where Singularity effectively neuters Harbinger for a good few seconds, much longer than the cooldown. The ability to lock down enemies like that will prove more valuable to an Adept's game than anything else you're going to spend the points on, imo.

Yeah, but it will only last a couple of seconds that way, as mentioned above, so it really isn't That good at it. Maybe if you use the other version of Singularity it'll be more effective at it..
Anyway I'll try messing around with it, but so far I'm finding it a little 'meh'.

Singularity has two durations: how long it stays on if the limit of affected targets isn't reached, and how long an enemy can be held by the singularity field. For wide singularity, the former is 30 seconds, the latter is be 7 seconds. However, the effect will cease once a target affected by singularity floats out of the 3 meter radius (1.75m for heavy).
I always thought that the duration protected enemies stay locked down by singularity is governed by the hold duration, not the actual power duration. This makes sense, because an unprotected enemy won't be in the singularity radius after the hold duration is over. A protected enemy will be, so the singularity has no option but to end after the hold duration is over, because you can't allow the hold duration to be repeated until the singularity duration is over.
Of course, it does seem that the stunlock duration isn't as long as the hold duration should be, for whatever reason.

I remember my wide singularity fading in around 5~7 seconds once when i manage to land it on a pack of 4~5 enemies. (mix of protected and unprotected.)
Im guessing the more damage/stunning the singularity does, the earlier it will fade.
Pull/throw/warp can also stagger protected enemies when they are hit, but singularity is the only one that can be used as a trap/mine.

This would be my hypothesis too. Easy enough to test I guess...Heart Collector wrote...

Singularity is affected by many things.
- Stated maximum duration
- no of enemies it will capture in total before vanishing
- instantly vanish if you walk to closely to it
- instantly vanish if you recast another
- instantly vanish if you throw a warp explosion on an enemy trapped by the singularity
Wide singularity is not very good for an adept on insanity - especially if you are up against husks, as the quantity limit is often reached before you can throw in a warp explosion.
