I was feeling very uninspired the first time I made a character, so my first playtrhough I went with the default dwaven name "Faren" - on my second playthrough I named my elven mage "Isobel". Though that's not exactly an elven name, I like it anyway.

<- Regulus

It's a game in a medieval setting, so my characters need to have medieval names. I hate modern names in medieval stories. It's so unrealistic.

I'm sorry if people are annoyed by the bump, but I really wanted to participate in a topic like this but I didn't want to create a new thread, so I tried to find the most recently updated topic. Anyway, I'm gonna give the names of my current Wardens (and soon-to-be Warden), their class and other info given, and then tell you how I named each Warden, because some of these names are wierd, I bet, and will sound like jibberish I just made up... Anyway here I go:

1ST WARDEN-
Corviel Tabris
Male City Elf Warrior
Specialization: Champion
Romance: Morrigan
Origin of name: Corviel, from what I've heard from family history, is either a Middle Ages or Roman variation/origin of my Portuguese last name. Ever since I heard the name "Corviel," I've been hooked and have used it in some form in Medieval-style RPGs

2ND WARDEN-
Sundira Aeducan
Female Dwarf Noble Rogue
Specialization: Duelist (may add another as I'm currently playing Awakening with her)
Romance: Alistair
Origin of name: named after the character Sundira Thane, the major female character in the Sci-Fi novel "The Face of the Waters" by Robert Silverberg, one of my favorite novels. The name itself I found kinda sexy and it belongs to a sexy but tough woman, so I thought it appropriate for my female dwarf, who I wanted to portray in the same vein through my playthrough.

3RD WARDEN-
Omeria Surana
Female Elf Mage
Specializations: Shapeshifter, Arcane Warrior
Romance: first Alistair, broke up with him to get him to be king, then moved to Zevran
Origin of name: Kinda funny story. There was this girl I met during my first week in college; Had a wierd name, Odemaris. I thought it was "Omeria" when I saw her a week later, but it turned out I forgot the actual name. Anyway the second, Omeria, while being an accidental name, stuck in my mind, and I occasionally use it in character creations in various games.

4TH WARDEN-
Malcolm Cousland
Male Human Noble Warrior
Specialization: Reaver
Romance: None specific but eventually married Queen Anora (hooked up with every female possible first ;p)
Origin of name: Macbeth is my favorite Shakespeare play so the following should be obvious: There was a Duncan already so I felt it fit. Named my dog Macduff to compliment the theme.

5TH WARDEN (IN PROGRESS)-
Hallic Brosca
Male Dwarf Commoner Rogue
Specialization: Ranger
Romance: Leliana
Origin of name: not really one. This is jibberish, I think. Wanted a hard-sounding name to compliment a male dwarf.

6TH WARDEN (IN PROGRESS)-
Ophelia Cousland
Female Human Noble Warrior
Specialization: none yet
Romance: not developed yet but aiming for an Alistair/Leliana/Isabella affair :P
Origin of name: Had a tough time with this, so I turned once again to Shakespeare for inspiration. Ophelia is a good enough name IMHO.

WARDEN COMING SOON:
Crixus Mahariel
Male Dalish Elf Warrior
(I recently watched "Spartacus Blood and Sand" and Crixus was one of my favorite characters so I'm gonna base as much of my Dalish Elf on him as I can.)

Rhaelyn, F! dalish rogue
Elissa, F! human noble warrior

Either I go with a somewhat random assortment of letters, or I sorta research names from mythology or what have you.

and to add on to my list,

Nephalia, F! human mage, played as a Tevinter mage
Nilara, F! casteless warrior.

My hnm is a templar named Arthur. I like the name and the King Arthur character and so I went with it, since it seemed like a good name for a human templar.

With my mage, I was torn. I couldn't come up with anything good. At first, I thought Merlin, to go with Arthur, but I was never too crazy about that name. Eventually, I went with Kaidan and it stuck.

From another topic of the same subject:

Well my name is Levi, so whenever I see there is a fantasy game I name my PC Lehvi (because normal names just don't seem to blend well). I have also created Valmoria, Wyoh (a cookie to the person that gets the reference, HINT: look at my name), Orin, and then other random names for goof-off characters.

Lehvi is my main and is a Human Noble Warrior. I was quite upset that the first 'Levi' I had ever seen in a video game/movie/book pronounced his name 'Levy'. My heart broke a little inside.

Valmoria is the name of my custom built ebony scimitar from Morrowind, enchanted with a 200pt drain life spell using Almalexia's Soul captured in Azura's star. I named my Mage that, and it just seemed fitting due to the DPS monster both are.

Wyoh is my elf chick, she uses bows, and i just chose this name because I always liked it a lot. Not to mention the book it is from is probably one of the best books ever written.

Orin is my Doorf, i choose a lot of German/Nordic names for a lot of my characters (Anja is another favorite). He is a Hammer-wielding doorf (original I know), and he looks really cute in his little tin can. Ahhh...

Now that about sums it up, you probably read more about my characters than you really wanted to.

My current character, the human mage in my avatar, is called Zxumed. He's the type to deal with entropy, and he's a total ass to everyone. I tried to get his name to resemble the word "exhumed", but also to have a slightly Eastern flair to it.

Drenar is a rogue dwarf commoner. There's no real story behind his name, except that I thought it sounded vaguely dwarven, and not too grand as to be mistaken for a noble's name.

Sianna is my female city elf, a rogue. I wanted a name for her that was both vaguely exotic but also modern and contemporary.

Last, Kaldzun is a dwarf noble as well. Given that he was designed to be a harsh and firm leader with little in the way of morals, I wanted him to have a Tolkien-esque name that sounded both dwarven and also somewhat orcish.

yasuraka.hakkyou: Yes I am Portuguese; half, anyway. The other half is predominantly Eastern European so I'm kinda an oddball

One of the coolest things in RPG history for me was the Strategy guide for Elder Scrolls: Oblivion because they actually had a small section that they devoted to sample names for each race that you could use to help you name your characters. This is important for me because I really approach RPGs as if I'm making a story, and not just playing a game, so I really want my character to fit in the universe with a plausible name and not one random name that could be anything.

At least in Dragon Age, Elves and Humans have a name pattern that you can follow and come up with a reasonable name on your own. Dwarves are a b---- to name in my opinion because I don't really see the pattern there.
