I love Mass Effect 2, so I'm not on here trying to bash it. There are thing to be improved true, but I'm sure the Devs have it under control for Mass Effect 3. However, I'm not too sure they will fix the issue I'm writing about....in all honesty, I'm surprised it even happen in Mass Effect 2 Posted Image

Anyway, I made a couple threads about FemShep being all but excluded from Mass Effect 2 before, but I'm on my tenth playthrough now ( go me lol ), and the more I play it, the more I feel that FemShep was no more than a slap-n-paste in Mass Effect 2....and it saddens me. Her walk animation is bad, true it's bad on MaleShep, but even worse on FemShep, the fact that the animation doesn't fit her smaller frame makes it really bad. I didn't really notice just how bad it was until I put her on her new dress......such a cute outfit was slaughtered by her animations. In ME1 she didn't sway all over the place, but she walked like a female. Also, her armor doesn't even fit right, it's too big. True the armor you start with is fine, but the armor parts don't fit her. One of the shoulder parts just float in the air when she's running. When she's talking to Samara, she doesn't sit on the floor....she floats. Her arms go through her legs. Even her romances were downplayed ( although most of them were except Jack and MaleShep )...it's just bad, and really sad to see FemShep disregarded in ME2. She deserves better Devs, so does Jennifer Hale Posted Image Posted Image

Well, that's about it....well, there actually is more but oh well. awesome game....and I'm going to play it some more in a few lol. But please Devs, please make FemShep unique for ME3 and not just a copied version of MaleShep Posted Image

Never noticed it.

Guess I was just busy paying attention to more important things, like Hock's absurd dialect.

I solely play Male Shep, but this sounds ridiculous. I feel sorry for all the hardcore FemShep players out there that were given a lower-quality product.

Jo I agree that Females Shepard were shafted in this this game... At least in the first game she walked like a female not a man, and actually had amour that were for Females.

While I don't want Femshep to have 'girly' animations (she is a soldier, after all), the fact that they just copy-pasted the male ones over drives me nuts, because of all those moments when it just doesn't fit the model--the hovering, the shoulder rotation (though I don't get what you mean by 'floating in the air when you run'? Never run into that), drinking (glass is pointed to her...eye?), sitting in that dress...it's just bad. IMO Femshep should have gotten a tux or pantsuit like Male Shepard, it's nice that they made a new model for the dress and all but it just doesn't fit, and only highlights the lazy animations.

Those wacky South Afrikaans.

But in regards to the original post, the animation for the Female Shepard is incredibly cringeworthy. The fact that it's not much better with the Male Shepard makes me wonder why the developers changed the walking animation.

Also, I have a gripe about how men across all media will animate or draw a woman sitting. They do not sit in the same way men do. In ME2, the flaw is in using the same animations for both genders. But I'm talking all media when such shortcuts aren't the factor. Then it's like the animator just isn't very observant.

It's a small detail to care about, but small details can go a long way for immersion.

Lower quality product? my male sheps didn't even get any casual attire with the Kasumi DLC to run awkwardly in. He only gets to awkwardly in his tired, old, starfleet wanna-be suit. No one calls him a priiiize, either.

never played as femshep but if i think they should improve animation for male shep than I hate to see how femshep looks. Maybe bioware should just look to improve body animation overall during dialog.

Well, don't play female chars so don't really care. But graphics and models could be better. First of course all this low resolution blurry nonsense. And for example model parts - I mean, come on, big bad Shepard soldier is wearing child sized boots. Is pretty bad in ME1, like toes are cut off and ME2 ain't much better either. Bioware spent time making the default face look more or less OK, how about proportion other body parts as well? Or has the modeler some child feet and model was made after him or her? I don't get it.

Her jogging/walking animations are quite unfeminine. But she's a soldier, not a super model. Either way I don't really care.

This is a problem that's popping up across the industry, but it has nothing to do with how lazy developers are. Because women are proportionally different to men, they need different animations. Unfortunately, developers often don't have the time/memory/resources to do this this so they have two options. Either they can just use the same animations used for men and have the occasional mess ups that you guys have pointed out, or they're forced to just get rid of the option to play as women as in the case of Crackdown 2.

The recycled animation just makes FemShep look absurd, especially the way she swings her elbows around while jogging around. She's either big on personal space, or she's looking for an excuse to elbow someone.

However, I don't blame Bioware. Giving MaleShep and FemShep different animations would likely be costly and time-consuming, since they have to ensure both gender interacts with the game world correctly. It would be money and time Bioware would probably prefer to spend on other parts of the game.

You should be able to upgrade her boobs and booty. Also, there should be a toggle for "man steps" or "hot chick steps." That would rule.

It is bad, especially since postings on this forums suggest that femshep is very popular. Maybe they'll do thing different in ME3.

The only thing that really bothered me is her walking animation, but I never really noticed the other things. At the same time I dislike male Shepard's walking animation and they BOTH seem fixated on the floor while on the Normandy.

I totally agree on this. I played ME1 and it was fine, but while playing ME2 I had the distinct feeling that my FemShepard was playing a role written for MaleShepard. At first I thought it was because the Sheploo in the advertising had brainwashed me, but then I discovered that it was the *animations* that were totally wrong. The way she sits while talking to Garrus, the way she drinks like a drunkard, her "badass" pose while talking to Miranda or Joker, they don't suit FemShep at all - even if she's a marine.
BTW I also noticed that during the "idle animation", when she rotates her right arm (I guess it's because it hurts because of shooting or punching reporters) her shoulder comes out as if the joint or the bones were broken. The same animation works on MaleShep instead <_<

I wish they just kept the ME1 walking animations, they looked fine for both and looked natural, it's a win win. If they did do seperate animations, that would probably come at the expense of some other feature because there are millions of animations in game, than you double that, that is a helluva lot of space.

The Tali/MaleShep romance was perfect. And the Miranda/MaleShep romance was alright. Now I can definitely see how the FemShep romances were butchered though.
