Because the idea of a female doing all of the tough things that a male Shepard can do is absurd and frankly should not have been presented in the game the way it is.

There are occassions in the game where the disconnection between the 'possible' and the 'probable' grows significantly because it's femShep that's acting - you're right,

Aren't "female" and "male" walks dependent on sex/gender roles? I hope humanity has moved further in the Mass Effect universe than we have today so what's considered male or female is more blurry.
Anyway, I don't want my badass Shepard to walk like a model on a catwalk. She's a warrior! And please, no sane combattant would wear high heels. Yes, I'm looking at you two, Samara and Miranda! By the way, the animators should really do the female proportions better. My room-mate laughed so hard. She basically saw Ashley Williams's hips and ass through a closed door. Yes, they're BIG!

This is what I'm thinking, basically.
I dont have much a problem with the animation in armor, it looks good enough.
Just use the walking animations from Mass Effect 1 out of armor out and about on the Normandy and maybe she'll stop smacking Kelly with her arms when she runs by her. And her arms will also stop floating above the pole when she talks to Garrus.

I really never ever even notice a differeny between men and women walking anyway. Unless it's a chick with her nose pointed to the air because she's high and mighty with her 7 inch heels or a guy in some chest puffed out manly stride. Or his pants are around his ankles and he's doing the penguin walk. Even less so in a video game.

Comparing Female Shepard to a lot of other female lead characters or choices to play, I really can't say anything bad about her. Not at all. I think she's a great character and her voice acting is very good. (Really, could you take her seriously if her voice was high pitched and giggled at everything?)
She has a feel of authority and that SHE'S the one in charge, not you.

No, this does not spontaneously mean I claim to know everything and anything about women.
I am one and do not understand them at all.

Since when is "good enough" good enough for Bioware? I really don't want to see them stoop to the levels of "good enough". That is, simply, not good enough.

All Mass Effect models turn their heads to follow conversation, it's just that Shepard moves more than any of the others while you're paying attention.

I really don't know how else Shepard is supposed to move in armor, then.

I mean how when you jog Fem shep slouches abit and moves her head side to side.
All that aside though Fem shep has some pretty epic moments, the voice acting for her was perfect.

Just looks to me like someone who has been trained for and gotten used to people emerging from cover around you and opening fire. Lower your profile, watch your flanks, and move. That it happens in situations where that's not a real risk (Hub worlds, for example) is a case of being the only person running and Bioware not creating an entirely new running animation for the circumstance. Sure, it looks weird that Shepard is constantly scanning her surroundings while trying to cross the Illium trading floor. So walk, like everyone else.

It seems to me that its just flipped. In ME1 male Shepard had a very effeminate way of moving around. They should probably develop two seperate animation sets, because neither gender looks quite right through the whole series.

That would be a pretty big investment to make separate animations for both though :x

Both my Shepards have already smacked their heads into walls already plenty of times, I'm surprised the heads haven't literally fallen off :o

Something similar to ME1 for the women would be great when on the Normandy instead of bouncing up and down like a huge bulky guy hefting around weights tied to her arms and legs. It looked much more natural for her body build.

FemShep's walk is very noticeable and very annoying. Hell, the female LW from Fallout 3 is better and I have to say that is one of the worst third person views I've ever played in a game. The BW devs really cut corners on this one. Unfortunately, I don't expect it to change in ME3.

It's basic anatomy. Men and women walk differently because of our skeletons. Some of our bones are shaped differently and we are put together differently. Unless in the Mass Effect universe we have removed the need for the child-bearing gender to have child-bearing-shaped pelvises, and such, then no, women will still generally have a different walk than men. That doesn't mean cat-walk walking. It does mean that different shaped bones put together in different ways move differently.

I think the way males and females walk differ more from person to person, rather than between male and female. And that we have a social context where the female is taught, implicitly and explicitly, to behave in a cute or sexy manner. It seems still true in the ME setting.

No you mean stomp walk. Its like I'm watching mass effect and stomp the yard combine when you do it really slow. I will admit this. The animations for femshep are a heck of a lot better in ME 1 then they are in ME 2 at least I can say shes a woman and not a stomper! Kind of reminds you of your grandmother and her loud noisy stomping throught the dining room to get to the kitchen. Posted Image
