All CGI charactrers are done by their VA's as should Liara and Tali.
Naveen Andrews as Thane is interesting but Doug Jones has already done a great job as a similar character in the Hellboy movies.
Wayne Pygram would be better used for Saren, just watch some scorpi from farscape.
A much better chouce for Udina would be John Noble of Fringe and LOTR fame.
Morrena Baccarin would likely do a great Jack, better physical match than Gigi Edgley.
Robin Sachs should be Zaeed for obvious reasons, but vinnie Jones would also work well.
Christina Hendricks is a poor physical match for Kelly, someone of a more slighter build would fit better.
Ben Browder could also play shepard, as could Sam Worthington or Mark Meer.

Kurt Russell as every character.
I second this. In fact, let's make the entire cast consist of 80's action stars. How about Jean Claude Van-Damme as Tali?
Yes! Every character needs to be an 80's superstar. I support this idea to the max.
And as to the Kurt Russell idea, he'd need to channel his Jack Burton persona into every character he plays. Man, that would be a movie.

Christian Bale is too growly, angry, and one dimensional. You need someone who shares that same goofy ignorance and relatable charm as video game Shepard. It's part Captain Kirk, part John McClane and a little pinch of Luke Skywalker. With that in mind, I have no suggestions.

Megan Fox? Really? What?
If the ME film is going to be any good, they need to care. If they recruited Megan Fox for the film, all bets are off, it IS crap. Don't get me wrong, I adore Megan Fox, and I actually have a wallpaper of her right now, but she simply can not act.
My List:-
Shepard - Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Fantastic Actor. Would not fit the iconic shepard (appearance), but this does not matter.
Miranda - I haven't seen the actress that voices miranda in action. If its anything like her voicing, then no, not her please.
Jack - Natalie Portman.
Liara - Sophia Myles.
Anderson - Lawrence Fishburn.
Jacob - Cuba Gooding Jr.
All aliens destined for suit or cgi - Their in-game voice actors.

No. Its obvious most people dont actually make choices based on real acting ability.
Shepard - Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Thats....a interesting choice. Sadly Shepard would obviously have to be a better known name, and like you said he doesnt fit anything close to the default Shepard image.
Miranda - I haven't seen the actress that voices miranda in action. If its anything like her voicing, then no, not her please.
Watch the show Chuck.
Jack - Natalie Portman.
Liara - Sophia Myles.
Anderson - Lawrence Fishburn.
Jacob - Cuba Gooding Jr.
All aliens destined for suit or cgi - Their in-game voice actors.
There is no Anderson other than Keith David !!

Why does it have to be a known name? In my experience most truly outstanding films use unknown actors.
When I imagine the ME film, and Chiwetel in the N7 armour, it just works.... It really does. He would do an excellent job.
EDIT: Forgot to put my alternative shepard.
Josh Holloway. I think this guy, while his performances are sometimes a bit iffty has a lot of potential.

Short Answer - Its Hollywood.
Longer Answer - Video game movies as a whole have a very poor track record. Its unlikely until that average changes that a studio would green light a project like a Mass Effect movie unless they had a much larger and stable box office star attached as a draw to help off-set ticket sales.
Not saying your opinion is wrong, or he couldnt pull it off. Just saying its doubtful it would ever happen. Personally as amusing as all these Movie threads are... a CGI movie with all the VA actors that we already have is still the best bet IMHO.

I see where your coming from, and it's true. However I think that way of thinking ( "We need some big names so it's not crap!!" ) is what is destroying video game movies. If they go out on a limb and really concentrate on just making a great film, and not a great video game film, we might break that record.

Comic book movies were crap until about 10 years ago, when that stigma was finally broken. There is still some crap coming out but atleast we've had the image improved. A few good movies could help change it as well for video games. I think if BioWare ever did go through with the idea, and they actually get to keep most of the creative control we could have a decent movie.
I dont expect a oscar worthy experience with the Prince of Persia movie thats coming out, but I have my fingers crossed for atleast a semi-decent movie and a general box office success to help start turning the concept around on video game movies.

The moment Hollywood get there hands on the script, they insist on some wise arsed director who thinks he could make the story better. Forgetting that the only reason the game is being made into a movie, is because the writers of the game did such a frikkin good job.
The one good thing about the amount of money involved in the video game insdustry these days, is that it is going to make even more. How this will effect gaming I do not know, but hopfully someday we will see developers and movie writers working closely for movie tie-ins.
There are a few things I would certainly tweak with the story, but that is mostly the romance plot. This is still a major flaw in BioWares games, but its no biggy. Perhaps the movie wouldn't even need a crappy love scene.

Some people also seem too hung up on appearence, they don't need to look exactly the same, only similar enough for them to believably have the same past
. Vanderloo would be a terrible choice for Shepard. Sure he looks exactly the same but he's a European model, who if you heard him talk, would never believe he was Shepard.
My choices which for which I will inevitable, and probably justifiably, be called a hypocrite.
These are the only ones I really have an opinion on.
Shepard (Male)
-Matthew Fox,
-Dominic Purcell
Shepard (Female)
-Annie Wersching
Joker
-Chris Evans
-Seth Green
(not a huge fan of casting people just because they do the voice and look roughly the same because it would be weird, IMO, to have Joker and Anderson be played by the game cast, but all the other humans be new actors, hence having Evans be my first pick).
Anderson
-Lawrence Fishburne
-Denzel Washington
(true, he doesn't sound like him, but he would be believable as the older war hero now captaining a new ship, plus it would be appropriate having a massive name actor in the smaller mentor-type role).
-Keith David
(sure, he does the voice and can act well enough for the part, but I think he might be a tad too old for the part and he just doesn't look like him).
Ashley
-Erica Cerra
Udina
-John Noble
Miranda
-Yvonne Strahovski
(breaks my 'rule' of not mixing and matching game and movie, but I really can't think of anyone else)
The Illusive Man
-Martin Sheen
(same deal as Miranda).
Admiral Hackett
-Lance Henriksen
-Stephen McHattie

Personally, I would say David Fincher or Matthew Vaughn.
The latter seems relatable and I think would do it, and well. Seeing as both of them have done serious, gritty flicks (Se7en, Fight Club, Layer Cake) and things that have a much larger scale (Stardust, Kick-Ass, Ben Button), y'know.

Because, as I said in my post, I picture it being done with Avatar-like technology that should become more commonplace in years to come, and the VAs aren't necessarily fully-fledged actors that would be willing to do such a prospect. If they want to and can, sure, go ahead.

That's actually a good choice for Shepard. Thank f*ck you didn't say Will Smith or something. How about Michael Douglas as The Illusive Man? I know he's older now, and he would have been perfect for the role ten or fifteen years ago, but I can't think of anybody that can play a smart, dominant, charismatic, womanizing a-hole better than him. Hell, that's been the man's entire career.

VAs are very much full-fledged actors. Many of the ME cast has had prior experience either on stage or film as well. As for the younger end of the cast like Liz Sroka who havent done much else I cant image them turning down something if it was presented for the chance to actually get their name out there for more roles be it live or more VA work.
