Okay, since it's alright to state 'facts' without any sort of basis whatsoever... x)

Thane does not love his dead wife more than Shepard. This is a fact.
Thane does not love Shepard more than his dead wife. This is a fact.
These two things are not comparable, let alone measurable.

...

This discussion is absolutely idiotic. I haven't heard any reasonable or thoughtfully phrased arguments about why Thane would love Irikah more (apart from MisterD's internet winning computations), but still it seems to be alright to claim them as facts. Oh, but of course I haven't heard arguments supporting Irikah love > Shepard love, because the claim itself is surreal, calling it a fact asks for stronger drugs than the ones I have at home. This sort of argumentation of facts blows.

Why would Shepard need to replace his wife ever? Why is it so hard to accept Thane moving on?

Also, Pacifien, YES. I'm so glad someone finally heard me. That is essentially what I have been trying to say all along. Can I now officially declare it a fact, because there are two of us thinking this is how it goes?

Shepard has the option to reject Thane once he admits his feelings for her. Her exact words, I believe, are "I don't think I can replace Irikah", to which he replies: "You wouldn't have. It is possible to love more than one in a lifetime. I hope it doesn't offend you if I carry you in my heart."

I've seen people bring up the dead wife before as a reason why Thane can't love Shepard or shouldn't, and frankly, I think it's ludicrous. Of course he still loves Irikah and thinks about her all the time (his drell psychology would make sure of that). But she's dead. It would be unfair for Thane to not be allowed to find and share love again just because his first love is gone. Thane hasn't known Shepard as long as he did Irikah, so who's to say that, given more time, he wouldn't come to love and care for Shepard just as much?

Because Liara will have hundreds of years to live past Shepard, but Shepard will always be her One True Love.
Because Garrus may have had some flings in the past, but Shepard is his One True Love.
Because Jack could never open up to someone before, but Shepard is her One True Love.
Because Miranda has never looked past her job until Shepard, as Shepard is her One True Love.
Because Thane loved someone enough to have a child with her and now Shepard comes along and--no! No, you're messing with my idea that Shepard only has One True Loves if Thane already loved before!

Yeah personally I can't do Thane's romance. ...I mean first off he has Carth Syndrome and second off...he had perfect recognition of every single moment with her and can fall back into them at any time

No thanks.

I could see why people would like him though. He is a very intriguing character. Just not my cup of tea as a romance partner.

Then again I dislike something about all the romances except Ashely's/Kaidan's.

Probably why 99% of my Sheps are single.

Would people have preferred the sensual romance scenes of ME1 in ME2? While I wasn't a fan of the Kaidan romance in ME1, I loved the build-up to the scene and the scene itself. Is it the sensuality that gets people, or the fact that it doesn't "fade to black" so quickly?

yes, overall ME1 scenes appealed more to me. Maybe it's because this sudden switch to TIM made all ME2 scenes look abrupt and incomplete, i don't know

You've played through 100 times? Damn, and I thought my 34 playthroughs were overboard

Chee actually I would have liked more sensuality. I really enjoyed Kaidan romance for it's sort of... physical build-up of tension. Almost-kiss still wins in my books.

I believe I speak for a lot of ladies saying that I am deeply traumatized by the lack of malien skin in this game. I try to get over this with fanmaterial, but I'm starting to believe that this trauma may yet outlive both my wacom and hard disk space.

Seriously though, yes, I would have liked to see more, both for build-up and the apex scene.

You know what I found quite abrupt in the ME1 scenes is the cut to the completely dressed Shepard staring back at the LI. Especially if you pick the option to enjoy five more minutes, 'cause, you know, now you have to waste precious moments with the undress.

Wait, I think I'm thinking of something that is related but not actual romance...

The cut to the Illusive Man in ME2 would always be a mood killer no matter how sensual the preceding scene was.

Huh? No no! I only played through 40 times. Just 39 of those playthroughs are single.

Kaidan's scene would've been much better than Ashley's if he didn't kick you out of the bedroom right afterwards. The Jerk. <_<

Mordin has the best romance scene.

Shepard, aware you come by a lot. Awkward. Not interested.

I liked the build up to the romance scene in ME1.

But I like the build up in ME2 as well.  For me, Thane's romance scene was especially poignant and emotional.

I would have liked to see some gloriously exposed drellchest and was let down by the complete lack of shirtless Thane.  And cutting to TIM is enough of a bucket of cold water for anyone I think.

-To me, this depends. I stated earlier in the thread that I thought the headbump with Garrus was the sweetest thing Shepard could've done with Garrus, seeing how he was all nervous and anxious in the buildup and during the scene itself. Sex would've been taking a great big stinking **** all over the scene.

-With Jack, it seemed nice that they didn't actually have sex, because you know thats sorta what Jack resorts to when she tries to push people away from her. I thought that the kiss they had would've been enough for the scene, and the rest of it just ruined the moment for me.

-I know a lot of people criticize the scene with Miranda, as do I, but I think its for different reasons. The engine room seemed like a great place for it to happen, imo. She had always put her personally feelings aside of her, and although she didn't try to dehumanize herself like Garrus did, she still wanted to keep her feelings as far from her as possible. By doing it in the engine room, its basically her way of getting over that hump. I thought it was good that was really sexualized in the scene, because she had been really insecure about herself in the past, and she's coming to grips with what she is.

-I didn't do Jacob, but I saw it. I wasn't emotionally invested in it, so I'm not gonna try to analyze it since someone else can probably do it better. I will say from what I can tell by his dialogue, him taking off that shirt was actually an important part. He said earlier "she requires a better man than I", and this is his way of getting over himself.

-Like with Jacob, I wasn't emotionally vested with Tali, so I saw it on youtube, but from what I saw Tali's seemed good, because it really captured her character and emotions. Somebody finally saw past her helmet for the first time in her life, and that was really a nice touch.

-Thane's is the only scene I didn't like. The dialogue was nice, but it needed skin. It showed that Thane emotionally got over his wife, but not physically. That kiss wasn't enough imo.

It really depends on the character. Skin is good for Miranda & Jacob (self-esteem). Not for Jack, seeing as thats part of her "brokeness". It would've mattered for Thane to show he got over his wife in the physical state. It only mattered in Tali's scene that he saw her face. And Garrus didn't need sex, just someone to love. If they did that headbump for 10 minutes it would've been better than 10 minutes of sex.

I would like the build up of the ME1 romances mixed with the unique scenes of the ME2 romances. Plus I want to be able to talk to the romances afterwards like in ME1 instead of just fading to black and going right to TIM. I haven't done all the romances yet just Kaidan in ME1 and that Shepard went with Garrus in ME2. My current Shepard went with Liara in ME1 and is staying faithful to her in ME2. I don't really need to see any sex so the headbump in Garrus' scene was perfect. I think the scene was more meaningful because of the lack of an actual "sex" scene.

Miranda: Sexy male romance scene

Jack: Emotional male romance scene

Tali: Fanservice male romance scene

Thane: Emotional female romance scene (mirrored to Jack)

Garrus: Comedical female romance scene (mirrored to Tali)

Jacob: Eh. I guess he's mirrored to Miranda (Jacob's kind of a jerk though)

Liara: Everyone's favorite romance scenes (Seriously she might as well be the canon love interest from me1 due to how much focus she got in both games)

"It is far more erotic to wonder if you are about to be kissed than to be kissed."

I think that's from Roger Ebert. Whoever it's from, I think it's true.
