What kind of monsters would you like to fight?

OK. I've seen several threads on the forum about: new classes (OK i think I've started most of those), new specializations, new races, new weapons, new spells, new talents ...

Here's my question. Am I the only one who's tired of fighting darkspawn .... humanoid monsters ... all the time? As I said, during the "Lost Odyssey" thread (which is going in a few different directions) .... it just seems to me that 90% of the game is when I turn a corner ... what formation of darkspawn will be around the corner. I sure wish there was some more variety in the adversaries. I'd like a wider variety of adversaries that require a wider range of tactics against (like all those elemental powers that nothing resists or is vulnerable to) ... that do more interesting and unusual things to players through special abilities (energy drain, stat drain, poison/disease, whatever) that you need defenses against ... but mostly I'd just like a wider variety.

I'm really getting tired of fighting darkspawn. They don't do anything special, most of them, other than the rare emissary or rogue/assassin. Fine, they started talking, but most of them just make that "hnh hnh hnh" sound. They use crappy gear that for some odd reason always has penalties on it. They're the orcs of DA. And come on, in other games, don't you get tired of fighting orcs?

What new creatures would you like to see in this game? What new adversaries would you like to face? I think I'm getting tired of fighting just lots of human bandits and humanoid darkspawn. Sure, every once in a blue moon, the game throws me a dragon, an undead, or a golem. But it seems pretty rare. There's beasts but they're all pretty generic.

Don't get silly. Robots and dinosaurs are silly answers that don't even come close to fitting the lore of the gameworld. At least try to fit your answers.

Legendary monsters - hydra, minotaur, giants, trolls, beholders, wraiths, ghosts, etc.

And for friendlies, bring back the griffons and add unicorns, pegasi, nymphs.

What!? A T-Rex would be totally AWESOME. Everything is better with dinosaurs.

The LO thread has kinda started to disapear, but I just finished Awakening for the first time, and I have to say I'm impressed with what they've done. The Children are new and interesting, and most of the bosses do exactly what some of us were asking for: cast unique spells and require, in theory, new strategies. Though only two bosses required a reload at all, they were on the whole a lot more interesting. Hopefully I can get to doing videos for some of them soon... anyway. Monsters...

I don't necessarily think we need a lot of new models, though that seems to be what you're asking for. I guess part of your complaint is the lack of visual variety, right? Because I think even with generic humanoid enemies, they could add abilities that punish you for trying to do things the easiest way. For example, currently the best way to handle any fight is to mana clash or bumrush the mage and then mop up survivors. What if hurlocks or genlocks or a subtype of both or just a certain unit substantially powered up when they see an emissary die? Or what if some enemies had temporary damage shields, damage immunities, or extreme damage reductions to punish you for attacking them at the wrong time? I think it would make combat more interesting, myself.

As for unique monsters, I confess I'm bad at thinking of them, and after you said "no dinosaurs or robots," that's all I could think of. The anklyosaurus could tank, and the tricerotops could off-tank, with some sort of raptorish dino and a spellcasting robotic tyranosaurus for dps. Just think about it.

Well, we have spiders, so giant scorpions aren't out. They could have overwhelm or grab, maybe a couple other claw attacks, and a venom sting with one or two varieties. Just need to add a way to deal with poison--seems like every last spell for getting rid of debuffs is the type that clears everything in the area, beneficial or harmful. Broken toe? No worries, we have a saw to fix that with.

The game lacks flying enemies. Well, most do, and the interface isn't great for dealing with them, but I was disapointed that you never face flying enemies that you attack while in the air. When I heard about the High Dragon and that she would fly around, I had imagined attacking her in the air. Nope. Sure, it's hard on the melee types, but seriously, the game practically forces at least one ranged character on you. If they peppered those throughout the game, maybe people would learn to pack a bow and we'd hear fewer complaints about having 3 warriors, Dog, and no bow at Broodmother.

More undead/ fade spirit type of creatures.

There is one random encounter where you fight some fiery baddies that are not seen anywhere else the in the game- can't remember the name, but every time I have that encounter I think that it would be cool to see those baddies elsewhere in the game.

More tainted beasts would be okay, too. We already have ash wraiths, but some darker, ghostier wraiths would be welcome, as would wights, etc. The important thing with Thedas is not to develop a big list of monsters just to have monsters- they should fit with the milieu and mythology of dragon age.

In that vein, since we have dragons, how about some eeeeevil, dragon-based humanoids? Also, some water-creatures, ghouls and such, would be okay.

Here's some I wouldn't mind seeing.

Basilisks. Big lizards that can petrify you.

Blink Dogs. Or whatever. Something that can warp/teleport around.

Slimes/Oozes. Easy to make the models for those!

Elementals. Fire/Air/Water/Earth.

Gargoyles! Who doesn't love gargoyles.

YES TO GIANTS! Bigger than Qunari (who I think are just "really big people")

Hydras. Yes, we love Clash of the Titans, and creatures from Greek mythology.

Manticores. They shoot back!

Giant Scorpions. Yes, giant scorpions rock.

Trolls. Yes to trolls (no to forum trolls) & regenerating creatures.

Giant Poisonous Snakes! Let there be snakes!

Kraken! Nasty aquatic beasts. OK, nevermind, we can't swim or go in the water.

Floating Eyes.... yes, let there be floating eyes.

Invisible Stalkers... something, invisible creatures, something besides a rogue hurlock, who can sneak up on you.

Variety is the spice of life ... we enjoy it.

I am tired of fighting darkspawn.....give me some human monsters....humans that attack you in unique ways, such as with traps that hoist you into the air. What about some water monsters.... you're fording a river and get attacked by something nasty in the water. Or something that attacks you while you sleep. You think you're in the fade, but it's really something demonic. An incubus or succubus.

Something that gloms onto your back and starts to suck you dry -- or plants (not trees) that poison you.

What about some water monsters....

I love this idea ... however the current game engine doesn't really support swimming or entering water as a 'playable area'....  (you can't even walk/slosh through shallow water) that said if this is an engine improvement, aquatic monsters would be really neat.

And yes, they also need to do a game engine change to have true flying monsters. Dragons fly, but they can't really attack you from the air or vice versa. They just fly to move from point A to point B on the ground. In fact, seems to me the archdemon, and the architect's dragon thralls, mostly do that, just to be plain bloody annoying.

Poisonous monsters, yes. It's unfair you can poison your enemies, but they don't poison back. Yes, it means they need to put cure poison spells and antidotes in the game, and maybe even make a Healer class, but ... we want that.

Monsters that disease with their attacks ... yeah, but, make them fantasy diseases, that maybe drain STR/CON/etc. over time until cured.

Think of them as constructs!

Seriously, I'm disappointed at how few golems there are in the Deep Roads.

Burrowing worm-creatures would be nice... creatures the Darkspawn have awoken either accidentally or on purpose. Poisonous spit and sonic screech type attacks!

Some nasty human-dragon mutants... the side-effects of being an over-zealous Dragon cultist. Crazy villagers, reavers, and more reavers gets old at Andraste's tomb :P Perhaps Kolgrim is one such mutant... and in his fight, he'd transform on the last phase.

I'll try and think of more.

I love characters like Gaxkang btw :D

I think unique models for bosses like him, and Shah Wyrd would go a long way in brightening up the game.

I love that Pride demons don't show up more that twice (if I am correct). I enjoy the Uldred fight every time.

I just want an encounter that will become just as legendary as Kangaxx and Demogorgon was. Gaxkang was a great attempt, but it seems he's got handled now. i know Bioware will come up with some encounter that you will think more than twice about facing when you're playing a no-reload playthough.

More Fade Demons/ cooler looking zombies

Maybe some more people like grey wardens that use the taint for evil exploiting the abilitys avernus discovered.

OH idea for a boss! Tainted blood mage Warden thats mega powerful and has advanced avernus's discoverys and is trying to take over the grey warden order.

Giant Cave trolls and caves.

More Asunder type demons that are large in size.

Giant tainted bugs besides spiders

Tainted dragons/drakes besides archdemons maybe some be controlled by darkspawn and be armor plated like the ogers!

More varity in abomnations

Bigger giant spiders cause there not really that big to be called giant..

But i think when making new things to kill its important to stick to the lore of the game.

Enemies that can temporarily confuse one of your party members to attack you.

Half human half darkspawn enemies :D

Enemies that are light on their feet. Like they can run quickly but only in a strait line and for short distances.

Enemies that work in pairs that either 1: when you kill one the other becomes more powerful from rage or 2: If one falls the other can revive it so that you have to kill them in syncronization.

Sub-bosses (like Revanants) that start out heavily armored, slow, and powerful but as you damage them their armor falls of and they become faster and use secondary lighter weapons

thats all for now...

Even though griffons are extinct, I would like to fight one. Maybe one that is evil and twisted by the taint.

I'm tired of these wimpy monsters. I want to fight evil that poses a genuine challenge. We need to fight trial lawyers, revenuers, regulatory agencies, and City Hall. And there need to be griffons. And ponies.

:wizard:

Player attacks City Hall ... City Hall dodges attack.
Player casts spell at City Hall ... City Hall resists spell.
Player fires an arrow at City Hall... City Hall dodges arrow.
Player throws bomb at City Hall ... City Hall evades.

Lesson: you can't fight City Hall!
(loud cymbal crash)
(of course you were setting up that joke)
Alright folks, enjoy the rubber chicken, I'll be here all week. :D

Sorta weird you have a mental resistance stat, but nothing makes mental attacks against you. Never attempts to charm you, fear you, confuse you, feeblemind you from spellcasting ... yah. Again to me something that seems missing. A resistance stat, but nothing to resist.

The taint is spreading but who is infected? i.e.- virulent dopplegangers ... as portrayed in the seminal sci-fi horror movie - "The Thing"

I actually want an antagonist who shows up a lot, even if just to rub dirt in your face. Not one whos sitting at his castle angsting, for the rest of the game.

As for normal enemies... let me see...
Gray Wardens. Yes. I want to kill me some Wardens, whatever their reason for attacking me may be. Maybe some sort of corrupted, decomposing, totally insane Wardens created yet by another failed Architect experiment.
Flesh Golems. While not exactly original, I always wanted to fight enemies akin to Warcraft's Abominations in DA. Some necromancy involved in the story would be nice to see too.

Undercity just isn't the same without them...
Anyway, I'm happy fighting darkspawn by the boat full, I'd just like to fight more of them in each fight, like the dead trenches bridge. Cultist are always fun, but I guess they aren't really monsters.

Since the darkspawn seem to be based on demented bees. Hive mind, broodmothers (immature queens) rule when arch-demon not around, grunts easy to kill darkspawn (workers bees)... I would like to see the drones. That could be twisted fun. I figured the architect was some demented form of this. (hence the father statement).

Also a tainted creature that would normally not be a predator. Tainted Halla or nug.

An NPC who joins your party in good faith but tainted and progressively works against you while battling their own demise.

I want something like the cat that turned into an abomination. Like the one that Anders mentions.
