Not everyone reads comics. I love BioWare, but you'd think they would've had the alacrity to not omit such a (seemingly) important story element from the main game.

(I absolutely MUST note here that I first learned of the word "alacrity" from KoTOR.  Who said games couldn't teach you things. ^_^ )

But it's irrelevant to the main game.

It's keeping Liara busy and obsessed and not a part of your party.

I say it's pretty freakin' relevant.

That's a deliberate hook to get you to buy the dlc and the comics.
Love the vocab btw.

Probably.

Hook or not, it's a part of the story now.

(Thanks. :) )

Liara's my fav character so definitely getting this if/when it comes out. I hope she's more like her old self though. I preferred her less ruthless and she sounds like she'd been smoking a bit since ME1.

Maybe I'm missing something, but why does everyone want the Shadow Broker dead, aside from Liara's quest for revenge (and I never liked her anyway)?

Maybe the Shadow Broker still isn't a bad guy, just a ruthless information broker, like in the first game. I hope any kind of DLC or game gives me the opportunity to side with him/her/them instead of Liara, since I can't stand her.

I see the shadow broker as pure neutral in the galaxy. What "he" does is simply business. He sort of keeps a balance by ensuring that no one customer gains too much from him.

I really hope BioWare make DLC involved Liara and the Shadow Broker, and also to include a romance scene! Please BioWare, you know it makes sense.

The Shadow Broker might even be a good guy from a certain perspective. We know so little about who the Shadow Broker is - definitely looking forward to the DLC. I hope they don't turn "him" into your generic villain, it would be such a missed opportunity.

Instead of opening a new thread I decided to put my own theories about this dlc/xpak inside of this VERY related thread.

It would be a very, VERY bad plot decision to place the shadow  broker as a character in ME3.  There are many reasons for this.   IF the SB was added in to ME3 this means that in one form or another he HAS to work for the Reapers.   If there was a side mission for the SB in ME3 that had nothing to do with the reapers, it would either  be too short or too long of a detour away from the main plot.  This character would either be part of the plot, thus being a character we all seeing a mile away as predictably working for the reapers thus deminishing his reasons for what he does.  Or he would be nothing more than a speed bump of being in the way of Shepard taking care of the real threat that is facing their Galaxy.

Now here is a few reasons why not only would it be cool for the SB to appear as an Xpak, but in a way necassary.  IF he is added to ME2 as an expansion pack to play after the main story of ME2, this would open a LARGE world of possibilities/reasons on why the Shadow Broker does what he does.  Maybe he/she/they is/are working for the reapers, but than again the SB may not.  He/she/they could have certain "secrets" of the alliance or even the council themselves that if it was exposed to the Galaxy, could cripple alliances that existed for thousands of years.   For this reason the SB could have them by the balls, thus requiring the aid of Liara and Shepard's party to track the SB down and take care of him/her/them.

Look, all I see if the SB is added to ME3 is a VERY diminished and unmysterious presence.  "SB in ME3!  Great, must mean he is working for the reapers!"   Whatever the SB did, does or will do would not be a secret in any way shape or form if he appears in ME3, it means the SB works for the reapers.   If the SB doesn't work for them, than the SB is nothing more than a detour away from the main plot, thus you do not need to face the SB at all.

Just my 2 cents though.

What I would like to see is a rather large Liara/Shadow Broker dlc in which at the end Liara becomes the new Shadow Broker. She then assumes the role of quest giver ala The Council in ME1 and TIM in ME2, feeding Shep vital info on the Reapers and other mission objectives. Unfortunately this would most likely mean that Liara would not be on the Normandy for most if not all of the game and a romance would be challenging.

Romance would still be possible, I think, and perhaps even rewarding? Just look at what they did with Kelly. Hell, you even got to have dinner with her. Oddly enough, I think the Kelly-mance was a lot better than most of the ME2 squad mate romances.

I actually wouldn't mind Liara assuming a quest-giver role in ME3, IF it's done well and features plenty of interactions with her, especially if she's your LI. It could be quite compelling to have Liara assisting Shepard in the war against the Reapers in her own unique way, and utilising her intelligence in order to help out.

Plus, unlike the Council or TIM, you know Liara has Shepard's wellbeing and welfare at heart. I'd much, much prefer a squadmate role, though!

I know everyone wants their fave character to be a squad mate, but as I've said before, sometimes it would make more sense for a character to not be a squad mate, as they can help Shepard out in the upcoming battle more this way, and be really important to the story. I suggested that Tali might be one such character, as she can go back to the flotilla and rally the quarians for Shepard, and this would be far more valuable than just providing another squad mate position that any grunt can fill up.

Liara could be another, depending on what they do with her character.

Liara could even retain her information network in ME3, but leave it to be run by a committee that reports and defers to her whilst she's off saving the galaxy on board the Normandy with Shepard. That way, we still have Liara's resources to utilise, but she'll also be a squadmate.

I wouldnt entertain such a role under any circumstances. Absolutely nothing less than a squadmate role will do for me. No character, no matter how well developed or "logical" their role is can compare to a squadmate. Youve only got to look at ME2 for that. Even with how disconnected and poorly developed that squad was, they still felt like they received more attention and had a greater important than someone like Aria for example.

Its like I always say with Anderson in ME1: hugely important role, with barely anything to show for it.

The squadmates are the ones with you every step of the way. Liara being anything less in ME3 wont lead to a satisfying conclusion for me.

I might not support the ME2 squadmates being in the squad in ME3 (because theyre all potentially dead) but I can still understand it, and its because people recognise how important squadmates are.

Liara would hopefully be more important than Aria as she was only relevant to the story in one small hub world.

I was thinking more along the lines of Kelly, who was more developed than some of the ME2 squad mates, IMO.  Her romance content was better than some others as well.

I don't think there has been a precedence set for this yet (not the way I would like it, at least).  I think they did a good job with TIMs character in general, though interactions between him and Shepard lacked any personal touch.

Heh. Just said the same thing in the Liara-thread.

Doesn't matter how important they are, if they are a NPC. Then they won't have alot of screentime.

Use the sticky for DLC discussion please. Also, there's an unexpected hour delay for the PC release.
