All I can say is... wow. That decision really bummed me out. I really enjoyed having Alistair in my party as he constantly made me laugh with his jokes and his silliness. Thus far, I do not like Loghain. But, I'm playing as a human noble and the rules of the duel were that it continued until a party yielded. Loghain yielded, so, as far as my character was concerned, under the rules of the duel and as a matter of political reality, Loghain had to be allowed to live. So... Alistair throws a hissy-fit.
I mean... wow. I can see why Alistair did that, and I hated having to make that choice (thought I think it was a great design decision by Bioware) but... wow. I'm still shocked by it.
I guess there is no way to allow Loghain to live but keep Alistair in the party. (If there is, please tell me.)

I agree that Loghain had to live not just because of the rules and/or honor of it, but also because his experience and leadership would benefit the Grey Wardens as well. Alas there is no way to make him stay in the party after that decision. If you think that breaks your heart just wait until you beat the game and find out where everyone ends up after defeating the Blight.

I don't think there is, I tried the landmeet at least 20+ times to see if I could menage it and even used my old save to try diffrent combinations (like having him marry the queen, marry the queen myself, put him king alone or only support the queen)

Loghain is a backstabbing jerk who would just do the same thing again later IMO.
