Origins:

Sten - hands down.

"Why did I let you out of that cage again?"

Not just his character, but his party entry seems contrived and he is redundant in party slot with Oghren, Shale, Dog, Zevran and even Alistair. He is a slightly better tank than Alistair when you first get him, but worse than Shale, so he ends up as "melee dps". Esp. if the PC is not a mage, I feel overflowing with melee dps choices.

While I find his character blah and the non-blah parts off-putting, some of his banter with other party members is hilarious. Though I only found that out on runs I forced myself to take him.

Initially I wasn't taken with Shale, but she grew on me. I thought I wouldn't like Oghren, but he is not bad. Certainly .. colorful. I also really wish it was ossible to pick him up earlier.

I've not installed Awakening yet, but from the OC, well... In terms of usefulness, I don't use Dog past the opening stages; Oghren (I already have Sten, who I love as a character) or Shale. Shale's actually fairly useful but I hate the sound of her BIG STAMPY FEET. It drives me to distraction.

Wynne is useful and, indeed, vital in a game where you don't do the dark ritual - but OMG is she annoying. I liked her initially, but over time her judgemental, preachy attitude got more and more vexing. I wish they had gone with the original plan of making Jowan recruitable so that I could have left her at the Circle. Ugh.

What I've found on the rare occasions I used Sten was that he was even more of a jerk than Morrigan is in places, criticizing every damned thing I do...

Erm..... what is the point of posting that picture? Has nothing to do with the topic lol.

It is a Doctor Who joke.  That is K-9.  My least favorite companion.

@Aisynia.  Prepare for innappropriate internet rage.  I shouldn't respond to this.  But that is a really, really vicious ad hominem when you should have just voiced your disagreement with me.

You have no idea what you're talking about.  You have no idea who I am or what I've been through.  I've crashed my heart into the moon for love.  I've done things and let things be done to me that would make you turn white.  And I've been so hurt that I've felt like my ribcage is the crumbling cherry on the butt of a cigarette.  I do know what love is.  I've wrecked my life for love.  That is not hyperbole.

What you said was mean.  I might have been flippant when what I should have just said is that Leiliana reminded me of men and women that crossed personal boundaries.  But what you said was mean and stupid because you thought I was treading on something you thought was cute.

And it has been funny, because in SO MANY of your posts, you've gone on about the nature of true love.  "True love" is such a gross phrase.  It is a child's phrase that has no concept about how difficult it is to find something real.  The RL info you bleed always sounds like you throw a tantrum when somebody doesn't cater to your every whim, because that means they don't love you.

You don't know me, but I know you.  I know dozens of you.  You've had puppy breakups.  You cry for a month, write some bad poetry and maybe key your ex's car.  You have not had your mind disintegrate and then had to rebuild it from scratch on the other side of the country.  It does suck to be me.  Precisely because I have been in and known love.  Past tense.

It must be awesome to be you, because you have no idea what you are talking about.

Also, yeah. Sten needs to not be such a wet blanket. For a guy who purports to like swords, he's pretty quick to ditch a zombie apocalypse at Redcliffe.

Sten- boring, with the occasional good line. Tends to always, always die.

Oghren- I can smell the ale through my television monitor.

Leliana- Keep your Maker to yourself.

Wynne- my sex life? None of your concern. My devotion to the Wardens? None of your god damned business. And if I want griffons in my story, well, that's on me. STFU.

I used to seriously dislike Zevran, to the point of just killing him everytime I ran into him, but I've managed to get good at his hitting on the PC. He's more interesting to me as a friend than a love interest.

Origins: I don't really dislike anyone from Origins. If I had to pick I guess my least favorite would be Shale, although she's so ridiculously powerful its hard not to like her.

Awakening: Velanna by a mile

Morrigan by a landslide. She's just too inconsistent. Pretty much disapproving whenever I help anyone, but she still seriously expects me to do her dirty work killing flemeth. So me solving problems is fine as long as they're your problems? Yea... right. How about no?

I don't care much for Ohgren either, he's just a little too one dimensional. Yes, I get it. He's gross. Maybe I'm too old to laugh much at jokes about bodily functions, but after the third time it sorta lost what charm it had. I like him even less in awakenings.

Overall I don't feel as strongly about the awakenings people, though. They weren't as fleshed out as the origins crew so they didn't really leave as much of an impression. But that goes with the whole game being kinda "meh".

Oghren, never a big fan when a character seems centered around dirty middle school humor. Wynne, had some great moments but was way to stereotypical for my tastes; the wise philosophical old woman who is the parties healer, been there way to many times. Dog, didn't add anything really and never understood the admiration it has.

@MadCat. I thought that Dog, besides being excellent comic relief, always acted as a sounding board for the other characters to talk to or express a side to that they couldn't with the main character or one of the other companions. For instance, without Dog, it is unlikely we ever would have heard Loghain's monologue about his mabari. It was important, it was moving, and he is not the type of guy who would say that to another person. Just a dog.

Personally, I thought K-9 was OK, and I was glad to see him reappear. You wouldn't want him as the only companion since the Doctor needs someone to explain stuff to, but other than that he's fine.

I also liked Dog. And yet IRL I'm a cat person. Go figure.

Yes, I have, and I apologize, that was very hypocritical and mean of me. I hope you can forgive me.

I do know where you are coming from, but it appears we are both being rather judgmental towards each other.. when in reality, we have different ideas of what personal boundaries are.

I have a mental condition, debilitating as far as the doctors are concerned, whereby my emotions are many times more intense and powerful than the average human beings. That doesn't make me better or worse.. but I certainly know what it means to feel, and I know what it is to have my heart broken.. boy do I.

So please don't try and tell me that I haven't felt real love.. because of my nature, I HAVE no concept of like and dislike, just extreme love or extreme hate.. which is why I go through life with a philosophy of being magnanimous.. generously forgiving and loving of others. I would rather fil my heart and my life with positive feelings.. I'm imperfect though, as my post demonstrated, and I am truly sorry.

I shouldn't have said what I did, I hope we can start over.

Least favorite companion in Origins: Wynne, by a landslide. Morrigan and Leliana share a second place, but they're no match for that old bat. She talks at you, instead of to you. Her advice is useless because she is apparently incapable of applying theoretical knowledge in practice, leading to her giving the same advice to anyone regardless their personal situation. Why does an Aeducan PC get the same rant about Grey Warden duties as the other PCs? They're royalty, and they were appointed commander of an expedition into the Deep Roads: they know more about duty than Wynne does. Does that matter? Nope. You could be a flying nug and Wynne would still give you the same advice.

It doesn't help that the PC isn't capable of talking to her like an equal, either. All the dialogue is either NO MOM YOU'RE NOT THE BOSS OF ME or Oh my gosh Wynne you are soooooo smart plz tell me more!!!!

And her "advice" about your love interest just comes across as jealous and petty. It's insulting to Alistair, who has spent his entire life trying to please other people, to say that she's afraid being in love with the PC might interfere with his sense of duty. And about Morrigan and Zevran... She seems to disapprove of these two merely because they think about sex a lot. Really, Wynne? That's what bothers you the most? Not the fact that Morrigan is an apostate who clearly has her own agenda and Zevran is an assassin who was sent to kill you? It bothers you that they like sex?

Argh!

Least favorite companion in Awakening: Velanna. Why should I bring along a psychopath with no redeeming qualities whatsoever? The only thing funny is when Nate owns her in the conversations about the ancient elves, but I'm not going to let her live just for one conversation.

Velanna: *sob* "You'll never take me alive!"
PC: "Okay!"

Loghain's interaction with him was good no doubt, but that was the only thing involving dog I found interesting and that could have been pretty much copied by having a Mabari at Red Cliff for him to interact with in a little scene. I don't know, he was just to gimmicky for me to really enjoy.

Vicious? Please. I've seen vicious. That was just snark. Obviously she hit some sort of hot button for you, though.

And after reading your posts I get the impression that maybe Leliana does too.

Let it go, they kissed and made up already.

I'll agree with the Wynne responses issue. Most of the characters I find annoying are mostly annoying because you don't have an appropriate response to them. But as the Bioware peeps have said, it's impossible to have enough dialogue options to satisfy everyone.

Interesting replies, most contrary to mine!

For me, Oghren is my least favourite although his conversation with Wynne is funny.

I don't have Awakening.
