I have never encountered any game that gave me this particular problem -- can anyone shed some light on its cause or possible solution?

When i check my online stats in XBox Live for DA:O, it states that my Gamerscore is 770 out of 1375.

It also states that my Achievement score is 41 out of 63.

Yet upon closer examination, there are only 14 Achievements that i do not have (a couple of which involving darkspawn kills I am overdue to receive).  Well, 41 plus 14 means that, if the total is truly 63, the counter is missing EIGHT of my achievements.

And when i examine Gamerscore more closely, the achievements said to be outstanding total 300 plus two secret achievements.... which means that nearly 300 legitimate points are missing.

It does not appear that I can complete this game (as I have with a number of others) in getting every achievement, because the counter is not working properly.

Is this an XBox Live problem?  A Bioware problem?  All I know is that it is an inexplicable problem.
And one more sign that something is askew in this game.
Do other DA:O players have this problem as well?

Do you have Awakening and all the DLC? If you don't, that plus secret achievements may be your problem.

I do not have Awakening but I do have Stone Prisoner, Warden's Keep and Return to Ostager (plus i bought Feastday Combo Pack),

During the last couple of days i have noticed that sometimes when i log in, I am told i have 790 out of 1125 Achievement points (which is a correct figure); othertimes I get 790 out of 1375 Achievement points -- and i have no idea why it keeps changing.

I am continuing on with a second playthrough -- to see how many achievements I can get although it seems clear i cannot get them all (due to glitches).
