Hardcore on the Collector Ship or Hardcore for the Tali recruitment?
If you are on the Collector Ship, I would go for Miranda and Thane as the squad. Build up the warp on both, Throwfield on Thane if you have it.
Tali Recruitment, I would go with Garrus and maybe Grunt. I would imagine you would have Overload and with it combined with Garrus's OL, stripping defenses should not be a problem. Miranda also has OL so she is another good pick.
What is your build so far?

For the tali recruitment mission, the easiest way to go is to retrain yourself to have area overload and at least rank two AI hack, if you don't have those in your build already. Apart from that, it doesn't matter much. Incinerate and cryo blast will be next to useless on this mission, since you'll be overloading both protected and unprotected enemies, while keeping one AI hacked to distract. I suggest putting the rest of your points into Drone and passive. If you take two squaddies with you who also have overload, it'll be a cakewalk. Just map your three overloads into the first three hotkeys and spam those. Won't be very interesting, but easy. If you're in a really tight spot, just use the drone on the nearest enemy to distract so you have time to run to cover.
Attack drone will be useful against the geth primes, particularly the one after the first detonation charge you find. Later when you encounter the cloaking geth drones and the geth prime, it's possible to actually just run through the whole part without even killing the first geth prime, and thus not even triggering the second one and most of the drones. The easiest way to do that is use the drone as a distraction and sprint through the level, respawning your drone when necessary.
On the Colossus fight take the right path. Advancing that way isn't a problem really, just watch out for those Colossus blasts so you don't get caught in a crossfire with your shields down.
If you still find it difficult, take the arc projector with you.

CAIN the crap out of the collosus. It was harder on Insanity, so I am sure that might be over kill. For Tali's recruitment I used Miranda (Bonus Health) and Garrus (Damaging Shields).

cruc1al is spot on.
would add that geth pulse rifle is pants on insanity.Tempest with disruptor ammo is incredibly efficient.
And I always take the left side and find it far easier - no crossfire to get caught up in..
Remember and spam AI hack on the hardest of foes to watch them wipe out their former allies

Zaeed's Squad Disruptor Ammo absolutely destroys geth

Bring Zaeed with Squad Disruptor.
Equip SMG of your choice, and load it with Disruptor Ammo.
Win level.
As for what weapon to take on the Collector Ship, I'd go with AR. I would take the Viper but I seriously hate that zoom in thing when casting from cover, so Vindicator is the next best thing.

Tali's recruitment on my insanity Engineer was cake.
Just take Garrus (equip sniper) and Zaeed with squad disruptor ammo, make sure you have a high level overload and at least 1 point in AI hacking, and you're good to go. Dual overloads + disruptor ammo = lots of scrapped Geth
Oh, and don't completely rule out your incinerate. It doesn't need to be high level, but it will help against the Geth Primes, Destroyers and Colossus.
Good luck!

On Tali's recruitment, I always take the right-hand path when presented with multiple paths. That path to the right when you're facing the colossus protects you from it pretty well. Also, Zaeed with squad disrupter ammo is a beast.

If I understand what you're asking:
-- Collector ship take folks that can deal with barriers fairly well ... Miranda isn't bad ...Thane may be OK. Grunt [if he has squad ammo powers] and Concussive Shot or Fortification may not be bad. Spam drones to keep Harby busy, kill the first wave of Collectors, kill Harby, hide from Scions. When it's just you and 2 Scions spam incenerate until you knock one down to a sliver of life, kill the other Scion with incenerate, this will trigger more Collectors to spawn, kill the other Scion before the Collectors get there [remember you left him with only a sliver of life left!!], use Unity to revive fallen squadmates .... WIN
Squad power ... Squad Warp Ammo feels good to me.
-- Tali recuritment: Take Zaaeed if he has squad disruptor ammo. Take Garrus next. Take Miranda if you don't have a better option. Spam drones for distraction, make it to the right ramp, spam Incenerate & Drones as needed. Hit the Collossus with Caine ... Incinerate as need be. Win
Squad power ... None really needed per-se

What you say works fine for me .....
-- Zaeed w/ Squad Disruptor Ammo
-- Garrus or Miranda ... I like Garrus but Miranda would work fine .. both have Overload and both have weapons effective vs. shields
-- Some type of drone [I like Explosive] for distractions
-- No team power is specifically needed although Energy Drain may not be bad [has a long cooldown though]
-- Stick to the right side and hope

Any really tough guys or surprises I should look out for? I know the trick on the right side when fighting the colossus.

There is an area a little before the colossus that has a lot of drones and geth hunters that tend to spawn constantly until reaching the other end of the area. Take it a little slow and let your allies attack the drones as the drones will all aim at you and on hardcore and insanity they will rip through your shields and health in seconds. Also, for a bonus power, I think Geth Shield Boost is good as its affected by tech cooldown reductions.
