In DA:O: What did you find to be the best way to break up a romance in the game?

When I wanted to end the relationship with Zevran I took this route.

--I want to discuss something personal.--

Instead of taking -20 or -15 hit, I ended up walking away with 5 approval points.
Not sure how that will affect the epilogue but it worked out so far.

When you're breaking up with Leiliana, you can mumble something under your breath about things being too dangerous and then follow it up with, "My duty comes first." Right after that, there's a follow conversation where you check in to make sure everything is cool and you can get a +2.

Well, if you want to make things REALLY final between you and Alistair then arrange for him to marry Anora, promise her you won't be in the picture, and then spare Loghain at the Landsmeet. He really seems to get the picture after that.

Whatever you do, don't drop Alistair by turning him down when he wants to sleep with you and then dumping him. I got -94 approval doing that (I'm not sure if that's standard but it took my back to zero - it may just reset to zero for everyone).

If you end it with him before that then you don't lose any approval with him.

Well, to be fair, you ended up with +5 whereas if you HADN'T broken up you would have ended up with most likely about +23.  It's a big hit; it's just you get a bigger approval jump from going to the tent.

Best approval for a breakup?  Breaking up with Alistair because you don't see you two having a future together.

All in all, I think that it's usually way to easy to smooth talk yourself out of a romance in games, not to mention getting away with a lame apology, when your LI finds out that you are double dating...

Worked for me to but how do you turn down a wierdo anyways, somehow she got the notion we were a couple despite i never agreed to it, so i was rather shocked when Wynne all the sudden started to lecture me about relationships and Warden duties, i was a bit woah whats going on here.

If I hadn't picked that last option Zevran would be in the "in love" section. I think Bioware might have made Zevran as a foreplay kinda character, that's why you get so many approval points before and after the tent scene.

Mine favourite breakup was with Leliana. I tried the line -



"Its not you, its me"

Then she said "Don't give me that excuse, (or something like that) And my PC says

"Okay fine its really you" and walks away.



I love the lines in this game. Although my favourite was with Morrigan when turning her down for sex after she mentioned she was cold and my PC told her to get a warmer blanket.

While I'll be the first to admit to picking Morrigan over Leliana on almost all my male chars, I don't think i'd ever have the heart to say that line to her.
