Ok, I am really conflicted on what class I should play next. I either want to play as the Soldier or Engineer, and possibly Sentinel, since I've played as the other three classes already. I only ask because I've been playing ME2 alot less recently, so it would take me a while to finish another playthrough, so I want whatever class I choose next to be fun.
I am leaning towards engineer, since it seems like ME2's version of a mage, which I always prefer to use in most RPGs. In my mind, Fireball = Incineration, Lightning = Overload, Summoning = Drone, and Cryo blast = ...well, cryo blast! However, I would like to be able use all my weapons, especially the assault rifle, since the new smg pretty much negates the need for an Assault rifle. Also, I've heard many great things about adrenaline rush, and I really want to try it. And plus, Revenant MG looks awesome!
Also, on top of the new smg, Kasumi's mission also adds a new tech upgrade, which makes me lean more toward engineer. Plus, having three drones at once = hilariousness!
So what'll it be? Engi, or soldier?
What class to play next?

Playing the soldier is no-holds barred fun, at least for me. Moreover, the Soldier can use the Revenant A-R, which is a very powerful weapon, or any of the other "super" weapons you may want to experience.
The downside to being a soldier is some find it boring and an "easy win" class. However, being able to access all weapon types at any time (bar SMGs) made it worthwhile for me. Soldiers are also free from constraints of needing a squad ammo and therefore are the most open to new teammates (an opportunity to try some you haven't previously used perhaps).
Of the 6 classes, I enjoyed the Engineer the least to play through on Insanity. The combat drone was decent as a distraction but nowhere near as powerful as the other class defining powers (Charge, Power Armor, etc.).
EDIT: As a sidenote, Sentinel was a pretty fun class to play personally, on par with Adept/Vanguard. Yes, I played all 6 classes on Insanity...I'll admit it.

Sentinel is really fun, but only in moderation really, which is why it might be best for protracted playthrough. After a while the gameplay becomes somewhat monotonous. But it's fun.
I never liked Soldier. It felt too much like Gears of War except with a cool "win" ability.
Engineer I also liked. There are so many ways to build an Engineer, and as you should probably be respec'ing often with an Engineer, the gameplay never feels "used up."
The Adept is my favorite but it doesn't have an ability for every situation like the Engineer does. With the Kasumi DLC, if you have it, you can get your Incinerate and Overload doing some crazy damage because of the Tech Damage Upgrade it provides.
Of the three choices, I would say Engineer.
But what I usually do, if I can't decide because of class Indecision Syndrome, is I start a couple playthroughs and play them all up until about Mordin's mission and whichever one I am having the most fun with I keep and I dump the others.

Thanks for the input. Both sound like alot of fun, so I'm still a bit conflicted, though.
I wanna go with Engi, but I've barely used assault rifles at all, and I really wanna try 'em all out. (Including the Revenant, so I'd have to play a decent portion of the game.)
And I don't know why, but the Sentinel seems like it could be the most boring if you don't set it up to do crazy things like detonating armor with a wide blast, and stuff like that. I really wanted to play Sentinel when I first saw its powers, but I just got a lot less interested.

I played through insanity with the Soldier, Adept, Vanguard, and Sentinel and really didn't like Sentinel. Its powers are all "straight down to business" without any flash. Don't get me wrong, its a very powerful class its just the powers and weapons weren't very exciting. I would recommend Soldier it was definitely my favorite playthrough.
Cant comment on engineer though.

Too much of it depends on personal taste rather than anything else.
For me:
-- I don't like damage-spammer classes too much because I don't feel like I'm in the action enough
-- The Sentinel is tough but doesn't do it for me
-- I like the Soldier because you have a weapon for every occassion ... plenty of ammo powers ... etc. Even though I die a lot [patience wins] I like to get as close to the action as I can get away with.

I played as the Sentinel and really miss the armor now, so it's probably the best. Soldier just wrecks face and I haven't played an engineer for more than a few missions since I have my Infiltrator playthrough to finish.

I find the Soldier class to be repetitive. The Assault Armor of the Sentinel seems like it would be just as fun as a well played Vanguard Charge. I'm working on an Engineer playthrough at the moment. It's a challenge, as it seems the most defensive class I've played so far. Combat Drone is awesome. Three Combat Drones are awesomer.

I'd say sentinel.Using the tech armor lets you perform otherwise suicidal banzai charges straight through enemies, and when that armor's taken down,it stuns all enemies in the vicinity with a energy pulse. And sentinels are a mishmash of an engineer and an adept.Engineer is pretty boring, especially at the start, and the soldiers are pretty straightforward.Just gun em all down.Personally I found that the vanguard class was the most fun as I heavy charged into enemies and gave em the good news up close and personal with the Geth Pulse Rifle(I bought into AR training instead of getting that crappy ol' shotgun).

I understand not getting the Claymore and getting the A-R...but...the Geth Pulse Rifle for Vanguard Charges? Whatever floats your boat though.
