was planning to get Windows 7 for my Laptop but in the system requirements only Windows XP and Vista are supported by DA:O. The microsoft website states that WIndows 7 Proffesional and Ultimate editions will be able to "Run many Windows XP productivity programs in Windows XP Mode. " Can someone tell me if Dragon age will work on Windows 7? Has anyone tried it with Character creator?

The short answer: if Vista can run it, Win 7 will do a better job.

Sorry i can give you a finite answer

I think some beta testers have been running things on 7. I don't know what sorts of troubles they have had. I do know that while windows 7 Pro does have a special windows XP mode, it WILL NOT WORK FOR GAMES. It has no direct3d support. That said, most things that ran on Vista SHOULD run on 7, and there are compatibility modes like windows XP has. So to make a long story short, don't get 7 Pro thinking it will run your XP games better than 7 home Premium; it will not. If you don't need the extra features of Pro, don't spend the extra cash.

It works just fine. Nearly every PC Game I've played has worked perfectly. Some small exceptions like Kotor. During videos it loses full screen. But its still playable. I haven't had problem with a single game. If it runs in Windows Vista then it will run on 7. If not you can just tweak it with some compatiblity settings and it will run. But as for Dragon Age I'm sure it will run fine. Running Half life 2, Fallout 3, and many other games perfectly. Even old games like Fear work great.

Thanks for the replies. Would you also know if WIndows 7 will have higher spec requirements than XP? I understand it is more effecient than Vista and hordes less resources but is it more efficient than XP? I ask this because currently I have recommended XP requirements to run the game except the quad core processor. If Windows 7 will be using more resources than XP then I might not be getting it for a while.

I would say similar specs - depending on how many background tasks you run, you might want a little more RAM, but I would guess that the processor and video card requirements wouldn't go up measurably.

Probably specs for Windows 7 for gaming are the same as with Windows Vista requirements. The factor that changes it always the ram. So yeah I would also recommend getting some more ram if you are planning to upgrade.

Don't worry about not having a quad core CPU. You'll be fine.

store.microsoft.com/microsoft/Windows-7-Professional-Upgrade/product/8BB1A4B4

Microsoft was offering a student deal for any premium or professional full retail 32/64 for $30 usd
This won't be some chessy upgrade disc as you might think, the representive on the phone reassured me its the full install retail disc not the upgrade.
The deal was hinted on their website, which now seems to have been taken off.  However if i remember correctly the deal ends january 1st.  If that is the case for you and every college student, then your window of opportunity maybe closing especially since they removed the hint at their deal from their site.

I called their number a while back and spoke to a representive and ordered over the phone.

requirements are that you must have a .edu address that is on their list to qualify

There are two licences that i know of oem and retail and iirc they differ on how many machines you can install your copy or ie change parts out of your machine.

They were offering the full retail of home and professional, im a good guy and figured i pipe in and let you know.
i called  1-877-MY-MS-STORE which is listed on the upper right corner of the page i linked

$300 dollars
or
$30

you choose

heres a quote for the price on newegg

Official pricing here in Australia wont be released until Thursday 22nd October for the Student discounts, So I'll have to wait and see. I really hope Windows 7 works properly with Dragon age and my Laptop or i might have to downgrade to XP for a while.

Just going to continue to use the RC until next June when it expires. Don't really want to pay for the retail copy atm and going back to Vistas won't work, it's so slugish in comparison.

I've run the CC on both OEM and RC versions of Windows 7 without problems. I've also run several other recent PC games on both and never had a single glitch.

The only game I have not been able to run with this windows 7 install was because the game provider had not updated their gameguard client to run with windows 7. Other than that, windows 7 runs everything fine. As such I would assume any game that can run on Vista or XP will also run on 7.

How do you have the original copy when the OS is not out yet? I know a couple of poeple who are testing the release candidate, but thats another thing.

Don't MSDN subcribers and people who work at companies who are gold partners with MS already have the rtm version??

There will be no problems running DA:O in Windows 7.
Also, I haven't seen any games that say they support Windows 7, but my Windows 7 Release candidate can run every game i tried so far.

As stated above I'm a computer science student and my university has a MSDN account,
so I've been enjoying the 32-bit version op my laptop and 64-bit on my pc for some time now yes ;)
for free off course
What Vista can do, WIndows 7 can do. The only problems you might encounter are the usuals: that of not present drivers for some devices, but I'm sure that'll be fixed in the future.
