wow....really? I'm happy. Ususally I'm afraid to admit it...
Hmmm... that really sucks to hear that happened. But firing someone who is against racism? How...??
and how can a company watch your FB account? That seems.... weird.

For example, we do US history almost every year of school, from primary through high school and often into university - even though there's not much new ground covered (I mean, how can there be when we're dealing with a 200 year period?)
I think US students should learn ancient history, then British history until 1776 and only then finally move on to US history. A lot of these problems are rooted in most people's lack of understanding of the political context within which the US was born.

U.S. History is the most important aspect of history to an American. Usually the history of ancient foreigners are instructed in special classes. British, French and other specific European history is not specifically important to Americans though; I would recommend gaining knowledge of important world history events though as a matter of understanding general history.Bann Duncan wrote...

And all you morons can do is use a vulgar sexual slur against a group of Americans who have the nerve to protest the fact that their government is spending trillions of dollars it does not have. I am appalled by you people.

Having a wife getting her masters in American history, I hear a lot of the details that are missing from american highschool history. According to her, the history taught in highschools is VERY waterdown, highlighting on only the 'good' things in American history with things like slavery glossed over so not to appear controversial and not create a backlash. Personally, I went to highschool in Australia, so I'm just going off my wife's opinions.

I, as an American, strongly disagree. US history is a continuation of the history of the places the American settlers came from; especially that of Britain as it was from England that the cultural institutions of the colonies primarily came. How else would someone understand the context in which early American law came to be? How can someone really understand the American Bill of Rights if he doesn't even know of the existence of the English Bill of Rights? How can someone understand the Declaration of Independence without understanding Locke - and how can someone understand Locke without knowing British history (to a lesser extent, the same goes for Rousseau and French history)?
I could go on and on, but the general point has been made.

You are all a bunch of ignorant nitwits. The incident that D.C. Douglas called to complain about never happened. There were no gay or racial slurs. Dozens of videos were taken of the protest, one even by a congressman himself, and NOBODY CAUGHT A SINGLE INSTANCE OF A RACIAL SLUR. IT DID NOT HAPPEN. What happened that day was that a group of congressmen and women from the Congressional Black Caucus altered the normal routine, and made a detour through the crows of protesters in a vain attempt to provoke a reaction. Failing to get that reaction, they then lied about it, painting a bunch of innocent citizens as bigots to score political points. Mr. Douglas apparently fell for this, and decided to send an unhinged, irate letter to one of the protest organizers. These folks, a bit pissed off that they were being slandered by some idiotic actor, decided to retaliate by complaining to said actor's employer, who decided to fire the guy.

People who are actually in favor of freedom and liberty don't need to advertise it.
Didn't think I needed to explain further, but I guess in a thread with teabaggers I should have expected a lower than average IQ.

I only relayed what was written in the article and on Mr. Douglas's blog. Do you have links that support what you're saying, or are you too busy bashing everyone here for simply reacting to what they read?

If you want to argue if Mr. Douglas'actions were incorrect you are certainly able to do that. I cant claim to have been there or heard any racial slurs myself. I do know however from several news clips that a poster I saw often was Obama painted with a Hitler style mustache. Not exactly mature protesting there. That aside however you seem to be missing a large factor of the article and its point. D.C. straight up says he called while angry and made a few comments such as the "retarted" and implication that a tea party member might kill someone. Its obvious however you did not read the full article OR any of Douglas' blog.
They did not just call GEICO and complain, they posted his *PERSONAL* phone number and encouraged party members to call and harrass him. How is that type of reaction over what is just some *idiotic actor* as you claim a higher stance response??
I come from a very conservative background, and would be considered that still myself. What they did in response to his phone call however and the responses that are still dotting his facebook page are ignorant and insulting. I am appalled that you would endorse any such type of behaviour as justified.

"A lie told often enough becomes the truth." -

Well, here's a video of the "incident."
You can jump to one minute in the video when the Congressional Black Caucus starts making their way through the crowd.
Several people are carrying video cameras as they make their way up the steps. Congressman Cleaver flips out a little at around 1:25, but there's a police officer less than a yard from a way from him at the time, and she shows no concern whatsover. If there was any saliva involved here, it was incidental spray, nothing malicious.
If the n-word flew out there, it would have been caught on camera and we all would have seen the relevant clip hundreds of times by now.
Conclusion? People can get worked up about politics and rage over it to the point of irrationality. And there's probably a group of people who benefits from everyone's relentless demonizing of the opposition and sics "us" against "them."
D.C. Douglas fails for flipping out, FreedomWhatever fails doubly for not turning the other cheek and giving fodder to their opposition.
