I've played through ME1 and 2 twice now...and I'm ashamed to say I have been afraid of change thus far lol.  Both of my ME1 playthroughs were as Vanguards and both of my ME2 playthroughs were as Soldiers.  This time I want to mix it up though, and I was just curious about what peoples opinions of a good class for my 3rd playthrough of ME1 would be?  Thanks for any helpful tips and suggestions :)

it really depends on what you like to play as. i think you should try adept to see all of the benefits from biotics or try some tech abilities. if you like the solider class being able to use guns other than a pistol, i suggest trying infiltrator.

hope that helps

If you're looking for a change of pace from vanguard, I'd agree that infiltrator is a solid choice. For something completely different, you could try a sentinel/medic. It's not the most powerful but it would play quite a bit differently.

I usually played ME1 as an Infiltrator. The most difficult aspect about it was waiting for the sniper skill to fill up with enough points to make the rifle useable.

I agree with Grey Ranger that probably the antithesis of vanguard is the sentinel. You simply cannot be in the enemy's face as a sentinel... but there's nothing better than neural shock to send a charging Krogan on his ass.

Totally should play vanguard in ME2, by the way.

I tried infiltrator once but if I'm being honest I only played Eden Prime with it and was like wow sniper rifle blows, horrible aim and 2 shots and it's overheating. I'm assuming with point allocation it does a little better lol. Yeah I'd just like to do something other than *barrier, marksman, no fear of dying*, thanks for the input I appreciate it :)

It gets much better, Shepard is not really even trained with it at Eden Prime.

Adepts are far more powerful in ME1 than ME2, so I'd so go for that. They don't start off ridiculously powerful, but they are godly by end game in ME1.

Most common builds are a Bastion Adept with a Weapon Bonus Talent or a Nemesis Adept with Decryption bonus talent (Sabatoge fills the Adepts CC gaps when it comes to turrets and flying drones).

First thing you'll want to do is get at least basic in all talents, since they have individual cooldowns. If playing the Nemesis, you'll also want to get basic Marksman right away. If playing the Bastion, then it would be a few points in the bonus weapon talent. You'll also want to get Barrier to Advanced. After that, just advanced the talents as you need.

Sentinel could be a good choice too, as already suggested. Bonus talents are usually Singularity, Hacking, or a Weapon.

Yeah, Infiltrator's sniper rifle ability does blow on Eden Prime. Patience is the key. In the meanwhile, you can enjoy your own ability to open boxes!

Feros was my first planet after the Citadel. By the time I made it to the Thorian, I was satisfied with the sniper rifle. And it got better. And you have to remember that with ME1's inferior combat mechanics, you don't necessarily need to line up the perfect headshot, they just need to be somewhere in your crosshairs.
