The FXes were so bad, they almost cost nVIDIA everything.  But that was all over with about six or seven years ago, indicating that  your machine is so old, it isn't even good enough to waste time or money on trying to upgrade it (sorry if that's too painful to contemplate).

Did you even checked the requirements before buying the game? Could you please post your full specifications?

AMD XPm processor 3000+, 1.6GHz

1248MB RAM

dx 9.0c

fx 5200 128mb

runs css fine :(

When I pull up the matching Steam page, I certainly DO see the requirements listed there.  An A64 3000 is just barely within the DA game's CPU requirements.

Windows XP Minimum Specifications
OS: Windows XP with SP3
CPU: Intel Core 2 Single (or equivalent) running at 1.8Ghz or greater
AMD 64 (or equivalent) running at 2.0Ghz or greater
RAM: 1 GB or more
DVD ROM (Physical copy)
20 GB HD space
Video: ATI Radeon X850 256MB or greater (either this is wrong)
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT 128MB or greater (or this one is wrong)

(Note: IMO, the practical choices for the two video cards above should be the Radeon X800 Pro, and the Geforce 6800 GS, at least, for small textures - it will take a Radeon X1650 XT or X1800 GTO for medium or better textures)

The A64 3000 is officially timed at 2.0 GHz by AMD, and that is the minimum core speed that the game requirements ask for

X2 3800     2.0 GHz
A64 3000 *    2.0 GHz
A64 3200 *    2.0 GHz

Your problem is the AGP video bus is so obsolete now that there is almost nothing any better than an FX still readily available for it.

Okay, I'm having this problem too... But the kicker is I've already played over 172 hours of Dragon Age and Dragon Age Awakening with no problems....

However, today when I opened up the application, there was no text at the beginning... I have no idea what happened. All I did was download a game and defrag my hard drive since it was last working fine...

All graphical elements are displayed by a combination of software and hardware.  You must have the correct video drivers, and you must have Direct3D's Dx9 APIs, and you then have to have an uncorrupted application that works with those.  Hardware-wise, the graphics card sends signals to the display.  Somewhere along the line, you or some incompatible new software has disturbed the relationship of those five items.

In some situations, and I do not know that this could be one of them, there can be interference from a mangled up version of PhysX (used by the game whether you have ATI  or  nVIDIA graphics.)

Start with video drivers, and if the game's menu doesn't work yet, install Dx9 (not Dx10, not Dx11), and retest the game.  If the menu still doesn't show up, reinstall the game.

I just got this same problem as well, the text for the options (resume, new game, load, options, etc.) are all visible but the background and motion when running over them with the mouse all appear as yellow and brown boxes, where the graphics and background would have been. I can see the Title, Dragon Age, and it my Dragon age is logged in, but none of the background is there. Additionally, and more importantly, when I click one of the options, such as resume, the game stops working. Nothing is accessible past that point. My computer is beyond capable of handling the game, I was already playing my 3rd time through, and it happened overnight.

There is no need for any different answer than what was already included.  One thing to add is that for a game-playing PC, you never allow Microsoft to have free access to automatically do anything, especially not OS Updates.  They will regularly screw up a gaming system that way.

Turn off automatic updates, and then on a monthly basis, plus or minus, create a new RESTORE Point to go back to in case you are about to get something bad from Redmond when you manually choose the updates you will accept.
