This is the most aggressive gameplay I've managed to capture on video up to date, hope you enjoy it. I'll be doing more missions, aiming for more action and less cover with various classes including Vanguard. Here goes:

PoV: Vanguard lvl 20
Difficulty: Insanity
Mission: Kasumi's Loyalty Mission
Weapon : Claymore & Shepard's Epic Elbow!
Ammo: Inferno Rounds
HD: Yes
Quality: Very high, 60 FPS throughout, max settings.

Hehe thanks. Those were 2 of the best fights. First fight makes a really good target practice for charge positioning and aiming.

Man, this is why I hate Vanguard. Because you can pull off these freaking awesome stunts while the rest of us are hiding behind cover. :crying:

Okaaaay I just managed to charge and kill an YMIR mech without cover on Insanity and no help from squad powers. Video coming soon...

And here it is: charging and killing an YMIR without cover or squadmates' powers (or even squadmates shooting at it). I used the save I had with Kasumi again, but in theory it can be repeated with any other YMIR mech you encounter.

Vanguard vs YMIR

I've positioned Kasumi way back at the beginning of the barricades so she doesn't shoot the YMIR. You can see the fight starts with 100% full shields for both.

The strategy is as follows:
1) You have to begin the fight when the YMIR is about half-way done with shooting its machine gun. Sooner than this or later than this will get you killed since you'll either be forced to use a medigel and it won't recharge when you need it, or you'll die cause you'll be under fire by the YMIR's machine gun for too long.
2) Using a medi-gel too soon or too early will get you killed so you have to get the timing right. I use it a few moments before I see my shields break. You have to let the medigel restore your shields as the YMIR is shooting at you. Any point where the medigel is working and the YMIR doesn't shoot its machine gun at you means that you're not using the medigel's restorative abilities to their full potential. You'll go through at least 4 medigels during the fight so I recommend having 4 as minimum.
3) The fight cannot be won without the Unity upgrade that restores shields. Or at least I haven't figured out a way how to do it on my own. I suspect that 2 more squadmates who have warp or reave will allow you chew through the armor faster and it might be possible even with charge alone.

If it helps, a little tip from my Tae Kwon Do days- don't circle in the direction of your opponent's attack- ie. if the mech's on the minigun attack cycle, circle to your right so it has to cross its body to shoot at you. It'll spend more time spinning around than attacking. Same goes when it pauses the mingun attack and opens the rocket launcher "claw"- start circling to your left, that way it'll be forced to rotate to shoot you, and hopefully just keep rotating.

I could try that as I get better at fighting them. If what you say works within the game mechanics, it will at least reduce the number of medigels one has to use. The vid shows 3, but I'm sure it can be brought down to 2.

Blimey, this is some really impressive stuff. Cheers for the info on taking down a YMIR mech as a Vanguard as well, good info for my Vanguard playthrough!

Update: Added the final fight of Jacob's Loyalty mission. Squadmates were left behind cover at the entrance and they didn't participate in the fight save for a warp of Miranda's to take out the enemy's combat drone. This fight was done with low upgrades at lvl 20. Shotgun lvl 3, Damage protection 2 and N7 armor not optimized for shields. Shepard could've used better equipment and upgrades, but I'm pleased with the result since only 1 medigel was used in the fight with the YMIR. Let me know if you liked it =)

Good sir, you need at least three shotgun upgrades to have the ammo that you do. On Insanity, optimizing your armor for shields doesn't get you anything, so you're probably better off the way you are. Good stuff though :)

You'll almost certainly have three shotgun upgrades by jacob's mission unless you do it as soon as you get the mission. Purgatory, Omega and Tuchanka.

Yeah, you're right. I frapsed an instance of that mission comparing the damage of the Claymore of lvl 2 vs lvl 3 shotgun upgrade to see if I could 1 shot the "hunters" and the Loki mech with lvl 2 shotgun upgrade. Guess I stuck with the lvl 3 upgrade when I went to record the final fight and put it in the description as lvl 2. Will correct it, my bad :)
