Hello all,

To improve the performance and functionality of the social site, we will soon be purging inactive Dragon Age PC and Mac screenshots on the EA servers. This process will affect only users who have not used the screenshot functionality of the social site.

Since Dragon Age: Origins launched, over 13.5 million screenshots have been uploaded to the EA server for posting to the Dragon Age social site. Those uploaded by our active players have been passed to the social site and are already posted and being viewed by the community every day. This will not change in the file cleaning.

However, the server also receives files from players who have never used the social site. This leaves us with files that are either redundant, as they can be accessed on the BioWare social site, or files that are not being used at all.

On April 26, 2010 we will begin a script that will remove PC and Mac screenshots that were uploaded to the EA servers that are older than Feb 1, 2010.  This will affect:

* Users who do not have an account on the BioWare Social Site.
* Users who have not registered their games.
* Users who have never viewed their character profiles or screenshots.

PS3 and Xbox 360 users will be unaffected by this process.

You can avoid having your screenshots deleted by registering your game on the BioWare social site and viewing your character profile before April 26, 2010.

If you are already an active user of the social site and can see your screenshots, you will not be affected or see a difference on the social site. If you are in one of the affected inactive groups and your screenshots are removed, you can manually upload the screenshots again.

Once this process is complete, you may see the number of available file spots you can upload to increase again in the Screenshot Manager.  You may also see older screenshots you’ve uploaded now say they are not synched (however, these will still be untouched in social). To avoid impacting online traffic, we are making this a slow process, and it may take up to a few weeks before you see any change.

If you have questions feel free to ask in this thread. Thank you for visiting the BioWare Social Site and being a part of our community!

Seems like a good idea. Hopefully no mistakes are made. I can forsee someone losing a precious screenshot. I hope everyone takes this as a 'backup your pictures' post just to be safe.

Should purge all those tons of blank screenshots from the PC version too... THAT would free a lot of space.

It's not until I've switched to a more recent version of nVidia drivers that the game can actually produced a screenshot that has some content. All my Origins' success and storyline points basically resume to a slideshow of black rectangles :'(

Too bad I was already past Awakening's mid point... It's like my character has a sudden attack of amnesia (Futurama inside).

Interesting...I turned that option off and figured it was a feature people wouldn't have much use for. Go figure...

Is it possible to request a cleaning? I had many auto-snapshots posted before I realized the optional settings, and cleaning them myself can be a bit of a task.

Hey, that's cool.    I'm not part of the aforementioned groups, but   If I'd have known the servers were getting overloaded I would have deleted my screenshots myself anyway.

I never really cared to have them online  from the get-go

I have deleted all my screen shots from inside the game but it isnt updating on the SocialNetwork side. my Profile Diagnostic says 100/100 files too. Anyway to clear mine so I can upload my characters again?

-edit- ok I figured out how to delete them but the one by one is taking forever! Would love a box check or delete all function. Oh well, back to one by one  button clicking.

I clean mine out regularly...just keep the ones I like..ie: the achievement pics, and a couple I've taken myself, everything else gets junked so that my levels show up quicker on my current characters I am working on. Took me awhile to figure out how it all works, and now I pretty much don't have any blank, black pictures uploading to this site. Most times I will delete my screenshots a page at a time, inside the game...just to prevent clogging and bottlenecking of other more important information I want uploaded.

Don't see this as hard to do..nor time consuming. What is time consuming is getting my correct character level to show on the site..directly after they have levelled. It usually necessitates me going through story, spells and skills, and refreshing each category multiple times in my browser to get the level to upload properly.

If I don't do that..the levels sit where they were the last time they uploaded and nothing changes.

Might be due to all the stuff this site handles...

Please note the following

PS3 users can not even upload screenshots, can we please get a patch for that?
PS3 version is currently broken thanks to Sony's latest FW update
I am unable to register my PS3 game on this site for unknown reasons.  I have a BRAND NEW correctly entered UPC code, it is rejected.  EA has been no help.  I was able to register ME2 no problem

Eh? I have tried that several times but didn't get it done, so I am very curious how you did it.

By the way, have you noticed you get always clitched pictures at the key-points (auto-shots) when you use the 'skip conversation' functionality? Some of these key-points are also bad placed, always resulting in the same picture (of Alistair, for example) and sometimes even no party members at all (when you move fast enough): only a view of  the surrounding area!

Oh, and did I already mention that I have just 20 pictures online, while the game 'says' or 'thinks' I have over 100?

There is a dropdown menu on the screenshots area of the game...did you take any screenies yourself?   There are several categories to that dropdown menu...click it and find out how many screenies you have, they are listed as story,  player taken..etc.    Clean out those you don't want..make sure you don't delete your achievement screenies..if you want to keep those.    That will clear out ..all the 100 pics the site knows you have.    I check all those regularly.

It took me awhile to explore all this and figure out exactly where all these files were sitting.   And as the game tends to take the same screenshots all the time every time you make a new character, I get rid of most of those.   I've made 21 characters since Nov 3 2009.   So yeah it wouldn 't be feasible to keep every screenshot that ever happened.   We are limited to 100...on site.   I can understand that, as there are many thousands of people who are registered here.

Try cleaning those out.    It will also help your levels on your new characters show up more quickly.   At the start it was taking me two months to get certain levels to show.    I was also getting black, blank pictures.

If you want to keep a picture, upload it here, then delete it from the ingame screenshot folder to free up space and avoid bottlenecking new information that you want to show.      Thats basically how I do it.

[Edit] Nevermind, I found out how to delete my screenshots: My Games > Dragon Age Origins - PC > Manage Screenshots.
