LOL you are such a '******, I don't know any other word to describe you. Its not hard to understand that creating some actual emotional attachment to a character would lead one to want to save them.

Seeing as I did that to half the ME2 characters, yes I am a ****** because I would not shed a tear if Liara died. Way to go, I love Liara fans.

Well, good for you. Then what's the problem? I didn't, why do you feel someone not liking the ME2 characters is a personal affront to your dignity?

Ugh I think Bioware should just put Liara in ME3, just to stop all this bi*ching.

Now that's a good idea right there.
For the record, I also didn't feel much connection to any of the crew members. Not because they aren't all Liara, though one of them should certainly have been. But because they're all quite underwritten: Too little dialogue (especially if they're not your LI), too little involvement in the actual story, too little depth. And their roles and input in the so-called suicide mission was underwhelming as well.
I'm not saying this to bash anyone's favourite characters. I would like for you if your favourite characters would have gotten the attention that every companion should have received. That would probably have meant less companions overall, but better developed ones. As it is though, the writing is nowhere near that from ME 1. The decision between Kaidan and Ashley was always a hard one, the game manages to make me feel something about it. I certainly want to keep all companions in ME 2 alive (easy enough), but their death scenes are far away from creating the impact that ME 1 did.

How does some cutscene between a giant squid and some spaceship make ME1's ending more amazing? Shepard only ran up to the Presidium, activated the main control console, and become a spectator to something happening outside.
Oh sure, he gets to make some irrelevant decision about sending reinforcements and saving the Council. Irrelevant because the giant squid still go kaput whichever he choose and it has zero gameplay effect. It's just an illusion to make you think you are making some grand choice that'll affect the tide of battle. It's not like the reinforcements get wiped out if he chooses to save the Council, then it's up to Shepard to run inside Sovereign and activate the self-destruct sequence.

I don't understand why people are hating on ME2's ending. I thought the end boss was perhaps a little over the top, but I was desperate to take him down as quickly as possible. When he getting smashing platforms away (that happened quite a lot on my first playthrough), it gave a real sense of urgency, particularly with the timed explosion that I'd set - although I'm guessing there's not actually a <10 minute time limit on the fight.
I loved both endings for different reasons. The buildup for ME1 was great from Vigil onwards; barrelling past Geth in the Mako and coming out the other side of the Conduit and then doing the trench run were all top notch. Having Saren commit suicide in the realisation he'd be indoctrinated was a nice touch. Then I ran around in circles to defeat a hopping enemy that didn't really present much threat to me at any point in the battle.
However, every time I had to pick someone to do something in the collector base, I was worried about what might happen. Reaching the next segment with everyone alive let me breathe a sigh of relief every time. I panicked when Miranda got shot in the stomach and looked like she was about to die. I was desperately yelling for Shepard to save Tali as she slid down the tilting platform, and cheered as he made the final leap back into the Normandy and got pulled up safety.
