OK...Just got my first insanity win (Engineer) and I'm getting ready to try the same for an Adept.

I found that I was really challenged in the mid-game (from Horizon to Collector Ship), partly because my powers weren't mature, but also, it felt to me, like I had the wrong teammates or the wrong upgrades.  More than once during, for example, Thane's mission, I felt that it would have been nice to have Samara around...but I didn't think of it until I was about halfway through the mission.

Anyone have any tips for what order to do the missions in?  Anything that can make that mid-game move a little faster would be much appreciated, and I haven't seen anything like this anywhere else on this forum.

Thanks in advance,
-Turnip

Actually, if anyone has similar advice for any other classes, that'd be great too! Once I have (a lot) more time I'll be trying to beat insanity with all the classes.

There's only one Biotic Damage upgrade available before Horizon, and you have to have the Firewalker DLC to get it. Afterwards, you can buy one from Serrice Technology on Illium and one from Fortack's Database on Tunchanka. You basically can't really start upgrading your Biotic powers until after Horizon.

Yeah. I would do the Firewalker DLC before Mordin's mission and then get upgrades going. Quest order isn't as important for an Adept until after Horizon.

After Horizon go immediately to Illium and buy the Damage Upgrade and then do Samara's mission for another damage upgrade.

Do the firewalker missions early ... like maybe right after recruiting mordin.
It's a level and biotic damage boost.

The rest of pre-horizon stuff ... do in whatever order you wish.
Although I like doing Zaeed's loyalty early, and make him "save" 9 points for heavy inferno grenade.
It's ridiculously powerful early game ... staggers people it comes into contact with, and devastating vs defenses ... armour obviously, but good vs shields and barriers too.

Immediately after horizon, buy biotic damage from Ilium .. and research biotic cooldown. It is key.
I like to do samara and thane's recruitments first, for additional biotic and SMG research .. but N7: anomalous weather is also a nice one to do, for damage protection 3 + hard shields.
Having samara and thane also gives you squaddie options.

Thereafter, I like going with miranda + jack loyalty.
It makes breaking up their fight easier ('cos it's done early), but it's also additional SMG and biotic research ...
Plus, if you're using jack for squad warp ammo (and shockwave 2 + pull 1 + the rest in passive), it's yet another option for collector ship.

With all those pimped out biotics, you can try out all sorts of combos.

Edit:
Note that I don't make room for Tali recruitment (and therefore no Tempest) ...
3 reasons for that ..
1) I have kasumi, and the locust is nice for squadmates. I'm a shuriken fan, so I use that the entire game.
2) Geth fights can be tough if tech upgrades have been neglected somewhat. Especially since I don't use Zaeed for squad disruptor.
3) Tali sux *hides under a cushion*

If you have the Kasumi DLC I would recomend doing her quest right away, as the SMG will be indispensable until at least the Collector Ship.

You better hide!

Seriously though, kudos to you and the above posters.

Hopefully this will make my next playthrough a little quicker and easier.

Time to boot up the game!

OK so I just finished Horizon and it was WAY easier. I did Firewalker, then Mordin, Kasumi, Zaeed, and used the singularity/warp combo and it was...well, not EASY, but it certainly went a fair sight better than my Engineer run through Horizon did. Zaeed to knock off barriers, then singularity to lift the bad guys off their feet and Miranda to warp detonate them. Went off mostly like I planned.

Thanks again for all the help,
