Claymore is the best choice if you can pull off the reload trick. Check out the sticky at the top of the page for all the Vanguard advice you could need.

Check out the vids in my sig and in the sticky. There are a ton more that aren't in the OP if you feel like a good read. The gist is, take what fits your playstyle. There is no best weapon, best bonus power or best anything. You don't even need a bonus power at all, though I take Slam for entertainment, combos and the fact that you can max it because you don't have to put points into Shockwave.
Make a save before you choose your weapon and just play around. I have well over 100 hours of Vanguard play under my belt and I still don't have a favourite shotgun. All four get the job done just as well as each other. The difference is how they feel. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Depends entirely on your playstyle. If you like to use charge a lot then yes. If you don't (like me) and prefer to play at medium range then an AR is a better choice. As for a power... I go with reave every time.

yep like they said. theres no best weapon(shotguns) or best bonus power for a vanguard.. all shotguns are great and very distinctive.. so try them all.. dont pick an AR unless u dont wanna use the charge, but no charge no fun...as for the bonus power the vanguard doesnt need one but i have a my fav - crippling slam.

I would take dominate for your bonus power. I use on my vanguard and its great for distracting enemies and setting up warp explosions. As for whether or not to take the claymore it depends on how good of a shot you are. If you can charge in and get headshots easy you will get a ton of one shot kills coming out of charge. Personally I like a more forgiving shotgun.
