Well, maybe the paragon option will be to die, and the renegade will be to send someone else piloting the kamikazee missile of ultimate destruction into the midst of the reaper armada.

And that's why I saved Jacob from a rocket to the face, in case I need someone to sacrifice themself for the greater good. I will write "Piloting a kamikaze missile of ulimate destruction, heavy risk..... But the exxxxxxxxxxxxxxxploooooosioooon........." on the missile

i totally agree the hero dying at the end of an amazing saga is a great ending. It provokes a profound and poignant conclusion to a story.

Killing off the hero has been done many times, and is neither profound nor poignant in itself.  If Bioware makes Shepard's death a possibility at the conclusion of ME3, fantastic; they did the same in ME2.  But we are not dealing with traditional literature.  If it becomes mandatory they will undermine much of the game's draw: the audience's choice and the narrative's consequences.

Should Shepard have a chance of dying? Sure.

Should Shepard die NO MATTER WHAT? Nope.

If there is a choice in the matter regarding Shepard's death, you know the resolution will only be reached after crossing an ethically-confused and morally-indecisive minefield.

One of Shepard's greatest abilities if not the greatest is the will to survive. The whole theme of Mass Effect is the fight for survival. You see it in Shepard, in the Quarrians and Geth, in the Krogan, in the Protheans. It is woven into the very fabric of the story. In this context it doesn't really make sense to me for self-sacrifice to end this story. Shepard will find a way to defeat the Reapers and live.

I probably would unless I have a very good reason not to.

Shepard must die at the end of ME3. (He/She) is too big of a hero. The first human specter , the savior of the cidadel and the galaxy.  destroyer of the collectors. Shepard has to die at the end of the series. the only way to have a hero like that to go out. in a blaze of glory, NOT finishing (his/her) military career, settling down, retirerment, then aging into a senior citzen with (his/her) LI. NOOOO!!!! SHEPARD MUST DIE!!! (and not like a **** either) its the only way the game can end. 1 life for trillions.

yes, many different ending would probably best. And not just "last minute dessision" but rather endings that based on whole game actions, this way BW will boost re-playability by many times.

But death of Shepard will close ME storry and we can hope for a different storry. But this one will have a proper ending without any loose ends.

Whether or not you die at the end of ME3 should be based on the actions and decisions you've made throughout the course of all three installments.

one of the endings for ME3 should be like the end of Event Horizon, IMO.

Whether you die or not should be based on your choices throughout all 3 games.

I can see where both sides of the argument are coming from but we need to look at one more factor. Who said shepard would succeed?
