I was starting to get skeptic in to how the console games of Dragon Age were going to play out in terms of controls. I had already seen several videos of the pc version and it looked like it was made to play as a true mouse and keyboard game. I wondered how it would play out in the console versions. Then I read that the console versions were receiving a different but similar port with different control features in order to make it more oriented towards the console. But I didn't know what those changes were until now.

Bioware dev told kotaku during a live demo with the PS3 version a week ago on New York about four different styles of play that would play out in the console versions. Play it like an action rpg, play it as an MMO, or maybe play it as Kingdom Hearts, or you probably already knew about this, play it as FFXII.

Check this link for the full post on the four styles straight from kotaku.

So what do you think? SOme of you probably knew most of the controls but for some of us that are in the dark is good to know that we won't be restrained to a specific style of play. Its nice to have variety. What style will you be using?

Im going solo so no choice but lead only for first playthrough. On my second playthrough with a group il stick to mixing custom Ai set ups with sticking to my lead characters and switching between them when needed because my AI script cant cover everything.Im not gonna switch them out constantly to use their special moves when i need them.I like to stick to a set group.

The UI for the console version has been completely redesigned to make it feel like it was built for the console rather than ported from PC.

I am thinking of playing as a RPG unless the computer AI for the team is as good as it can be. The FFXII should be useful in tougher battles. But seeing as you can pause and play, you can probably manage it better this way than the FFXII style.

Well, keep in mind that FFXII also allowed you to pause and play in-battle. You could even queue actions up, though you only had two slots ("currently doing" and "about to do"). Personally, I'm hoping for something that feels like Knights of the Old Republic. That's that pinnacle of RPG combat so far in my book.

Wow, thanks for the post! I was getting pretty nervous about the way the console would handle this game ever since I saw the gameplay trailer from giantbomb.com, since I preordered the 360-version.

Personally, I will be using a mix of the 3rd and 4th styles. I like being able to control things, and the 4th style of play sounds incredible, if a bit tedious.

Well I dnt think that would work with the UI on the console versions as they are completly different to the pc version. So the console version is not designed for keyboard and mouse. Plus for me atleast im getting the xbox version for the use of comfortable controller (not another platform war starter) . Anyway back on topic I am probably gonna try a mix of all types til i find one that suits me best.

DA:O only has two queue slots as well.  The devs have said that combat is too fluid to make any more slots necessary, and you don't need to queue up standard attacks - chars will default to repeatedly attacking the targeted enemy.

Weren't it for mods and my new graphics card I would be buying the 360 version but since It was cheapier getting the PC version(Deluxe edition for 55 on steam) I had to sacrifice the Blood Dragon Armor for ME2 and console comfort. Although since I played ME from release date all my characters are on 360 so ME2 is a no brainer for me in console. I have a 51 inch LCD 1080p tv that is screaming to be used.

As for my play style. I really would enjoy mixing the third and fourth. Only if things get a little bit difficult would I start pausing and managing my party personally. If you think about it the game is probably pretty close to the console version of Kotor. As for the scripting. That is going to be extremely important for solo players. that is why third and fourth will usually go together well. Play as a specific character while the AI handles the characters the way you want the AI to handle them. At high levels on FFXII I didn't even had to fight at all. I would just get near a enemy with the gambit on even my controlling character on and they would all fight awesomely. They would make sure to always be buffed and all the sort. With more advanced scripting what was once before tedious tasks become automated for your party members.

I for one hope that they somehow managed to implement fluid pause and play mechanics on the console versions. Don't have any computer that's powerful enough for this game, and would not want to go away from my BG2 influenced playing style.

It sounds really awesome. What really excites me is that he says that theres an insane amount of scripts available. The gambit like system seems like its perfect for the consoles. Sure it will be handy for PC users as well, but with keyboard and mouse they can easily do most of it themselfs.

How would I play Dragon Age: Origins as a Action RPG on the PC? Just not pause the game? I think you can set up your party members to try and work on their own good right?

This is correct. I believe you can set them to "do the best they can" and let them go.

I think that they should add an expansion to allows players to play with there friends online and do it co-op and also have different places other than what they give you.
